"The food was great, but the portions were very small. Prices would have seemed more reasonable had the dishes been larger. The sommelier was very helpful and attentive and recommended a great and very reasonably priced wine over the one we choose. Our waiter was less attentive and we ended up having to as the sommelier a lot of our food questions too."

"This was very disappointing. the lunch guadrifoglio was like an airline meal. Nothing special about the pasta; the fish though nicely prepared was 3 bites; & the dessert was some slices of pineapple & a couple of berries. We aren't sure we want to give it another chance."

"One of the best ever. Great food. The service was exceptional. Kind, friendly staff from the door, coatcheck, maitre'd, sommelier, and servers to Marisa May herself! We brought our 5-year old and this cool-looking, upscale, foodie restaurant could not have been more welcoming. Our childless friends enjoyed the bar scene. We will be back!"

"The food was fantastic. They had the best pumpkin ravioli I have ever had in my life! The lamb could have been cut with a fork it was so soft and succulant. We had a wonderful time and look forward to going back.

"Everything was as close to perfect as it gets insofar as food and service go. The only bad thing we experienced was being banished to sit on the balcony overlooking everyone and feeling like outcasts. If you're directed to sit on the balcony, refuse."

"They really dis a great job with this retaurant.
They have an outstanding selection of meats and
cheeses to start and the rest
of the menu is excellent. The wine list is extensive to say
the least and the selection by the staff was great. The arrvice is amazing
, it is on par with the best I gave ever received. The prices are very high, but
definetly well worth the cost. I'll for sure be back. I recommend for dates and even
parties up to six people."

"Flavors and presentation of food were excellent. Unfortunately the dishes came out cool or warm, not hot. While the signature uovo ravioli also had great flavors, the edges were too dente and a tiny bit dry. "we went to sd 26 to celebrate my wife and daughters birthday. from the moment we got there
everything was fantastic, the service was great, they have a wine list that out matches any restaurant in the tristate area. the owners of the restaurant tony and marisa may came to our table several times to say hello, evey one was quite attentive to our needs.
they also made a keylime pie for my wifes birthday, which was out of this world.

"I should not have to find an excuse for a restaurant like San Domenico. But during our first visit during restaurant week, it failed miserably to give us a reason to come back. The food was ok. The service was subpar even though the two glasses of wine we ordered far exceeded the lunch price of $24. There are restuarants that are savvy enough to attract future business during restaurant week. Unfortunately, San Domenico is not one of them."

"Dining at SD26 was a great treat. The food was wonderful (as it was at San Domenico), and the room is beautiful and comfortable. I was expecting a lot of noise, but I could easily carry on a converastion with my three guests.

The most brilliant touch is that each item on the menu has two prices-one appetizer portion and one full sized portion. This is a great idea and I wish other restaurants would copy it."

"From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the marriage of technology and haute cuisine. On entering, you walk through the bar area where there are wine dispensers. My son and I both agreed that this was very cool even though we didn't use them. We were quickly shown to our table and then several people approached, our waiter, a busboy, the sommelier. Ordering wine was again a high tech experience as the wine menu is a hand held computer device that allows you to peruse all of the wines by several categories. Nevertheless, the red wines were quite expensive by the bottle so we all opted for wines by the glass instead. "The place is very nicely designed. The food was excellent, and so was the service. We had reservations for 6:30 pm on a Saturday eve. The place was half full. However, at about 8:30 pm it became packed.
Until then the atmosphere was very nice. However, the noise level became almost unbearable. We could hardly hear ourselves talk.
In the rating you do not have a spot for NOISY, and I would not call it energetic. It was not energetic for us, it was distracting."

"The May family has done a fabulous job with the new restaurant. I have been to many renewed classic restaurants and this is the first one that I have felt still welcomed and comfortable in as a senior. So many of the renewed restaurants have catered to a younger generation and have lost the warm welcome and feeling. SD26 has been fabulously designed and the service is impecible. Wonderful contemporary design and still warm...not easy to do. Nice to see the same bartender too. You have to go to this restaurant!"

"The experience was not great. My friend and I are both chefs and were very excited to try SD26. It was my friends birthday. I called the hostess that afternoon and requested a dessert be brought out with a candle. I went on line and choose the dessert and the woman said no problem. Our reservation was at 8pm. We arrived at 7:59. We were seated at 8:20pm. They have a computerized wine list which is pretty innovative. We ordered two glasses of wine. It took 18-20 minutes for us to get our wine. We had 3-4 people attending to our table. Maybe that was the problem. The gentleman who took our wine order we never saw again. The waiter kept asking us for our dinner order. We explained that we wanted to have a glass of wine while we look at t"

"Second time there. The food is excellent and even borders on great. But the service is very uneven, from hovering to inattentive. Everyone is pleasant enough, just something missing in the overall service. It can be a while for an oder to be taken, then the dishes are rushed out one after the other, but surprisingly it's for your table, because it took some effort to get the bill.
The food was worth the second trip, I just hope they get their act together on the service side, which in our view was due to management and not the staff."

"The wait staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, especially the wine steward and talking with owner Tony May as he made the rounds to each table was a special treat. However, the quality of the food was very uneven. The spinach and pear salad was ample and excellent, but the chitarra SD26, a signature dish, was just fair, dry and chewy, and the portion of my sweetbreads while well prepared, was almost insultingly small. My husband's fish was moist and flavor full, while the grilled vegetables were bland and swimming in oil."

"Wonderful experience. Our waiter was so friendly and warm, he made us feel we were dining in his home. The mortadella was exquisite and great with the olive bread. the caponata was great. Pass on the bottarga. The uovo en raviolo was a treat. The salmon was perfectly done. Wines were great. "Everything was wonderful from the moment we arrived. Pasta dishes are extremely tasty and well-presented. The salumeria was very flavorful. Wine list is terrific. Open kitchen and high ceiling give it a very open feeling. The lights on the ceiling twinkle! Service was very attentive. They let you linger and do not rush you."

"Overated. Nothing special. Poor value for the dollar.

A $16 glass of white house wine was shamelessely only 1/4 full. Though I had to admit, that when brought up to their attention, another glass of wine was offered. Still, it left a bitter taste because in supposedly pedigree restaurant it should not happen in the first place if they want the customers come back."

"The restaurant is warm modern with seating being very comfortable. There is an open kitchen which brings the noise level up a notch. The wait staff is eager to please, but maybe a bit too much as they were at the table every few minutes and at times we felt like they were hovering. The "soft egg raviolo" with a truffle sauce as an appetizer was very good. I had a bean and pasta soup that was brought to the table luke warm and very salty. The Wild Bass main dish was very simple, delicious and cooked perfectly. The overall experience was good, it didn't "knock our socks off" but we did enjoy our lunch."

"Lovely hospitality in a very contemporary Milano style setting. We went lunchtime during restaurant week and were treated well and served delicious food that was reminiscent of their previous resto, San Domenico, but updated. We were also fortunate to have been seated in an upholstered nook that provided a full views of the room but because it was recessed with soft surfaces was exceptionally quiet."

"I loved the ambience and the welcoming feeling of SD 26. The waiter guided us through the menu and his suggestions made for a wonderful eating experience. The buffalo mozerella was the freshest I've ever eaten. The tiny ravioli filled with sea urchins was delectable as was the sea bass with couscous, leeks, and carrots. The lambchops with baked figs and a wine reduction sauce was like eating butter. The combination of strawberry sorbet and yougurt sorbet was an amazing mix of flavors that ended a flawless dinner. The service was excellent; the kir royales were wonderful. SD 26 is on my list for a return visit. *After we paid our bill, we decided to have dessert and the server was gracious enough to offer it compliments of SD 26."

"Some things about SD26 were very good and some were not. I went with a colleague for lunch during restaurant week, and I would say that this is a restaurant that does not try to do anything particularly special for their restaurant week menu. The pasta appetizer I had was excellent but small, while the fish main course (I think it was sea bass?) was really overcooked and disappointing. The deserts (especially the semifreddo) were delicious. As for the service, it was very good and professional. The ambiance was a little too sterile for my taste, but some might like it. Seems very similar to some of the midtown power lunch spots in that respect."

"Went for Restaurant week and had lunch. Portions were perfect for lunch but if it is the same portion as dinner. I would not be satisfied. Ingredients were fresh but it was not seasoned enough for my taste. Rather plain both the tuna appetizer and the wild sea bass entree. I had the panna cotta for dessert and it was smooth and silky. Like the touch of crushed vanilla bean on top."

"I was excited to try SD26 after reading some reviews on-line, but I was very disappointed by my experience there. I've been going out to eat in NYC 5-6 nights a week for the past 6 years, and this is the first time I've been compelled to write a negative review. Our server was not writing down our order, but clearly was having a hard time remembering what we wanted (repeating each dish over and over). So, as expected, we received many of the wrong dishes. Once we did get our food, things were very hit or miss. Pumpkin ravioli - delicious, Dover sole fillet - truly awful, soaked in vinegar, mushy and fishy. Also, cocktails were bad- the special 'Bourbon julep' was room temp bourbon with a splash of lemon served up in a martini glass."

"We had a mixed experience for lunch. Did not like the table we got (even with our reservation, made weeks earlier), which was right in front of the kitchen. Not that that wasn't interesting, as it's open, but the table was glass, no tablecloth (rest of room had tablecloths) and the seats were stools, as opposed to the chairs and banquets elsewhere. The pastas were outstanding, the rest was fine. But the waiter should have offered us parmesan, particularly for my spaghetti type dish. I think we were sinply off his radar for most of the meal.
I will go back and order more pasta. And ask for a better table."

"Getting past the roaring/raucous crowd at the huge bar/entrance and finding one's way to the coatcheck hidden midway down is in itself is not a feat for the faint of heart! But as you pass the salumeria and frommagerie, one's heart does begin to quicken! Aside for the silly double waiting to be escorted to the table, the energetic room is pulsating. A table by the open kitchen makes it much better, except for the long tables with round red stools upon which to sit. Pretty to look at, pretty uncomfortable for a long dinner!!!
But the food is outstanding.The menu divides italy, the pastas perfect, brocolineta perfectly bitter and the suckling pig grand. The parma and speck..some of the best I've ever eaten. The wine list superb!"

"The signature egg ravioli is to die for. The panna cotta was remarkable and changed my perception of what panna cotta should be similar to the first time I had fresh made mozzarella cheese and I was shocked to learn that the firm Polly-o brick in the dairy aisle was not, in fact, good mozzarella cheese. Unfortunately the entrees did not come up to these standards. The bass had a texture and flavor, while acceptable, was not what I expected from such a restaurant with such a stylish, ambitious setting. The chitana (thick spaghetti), while interesting, had a tangy flavor that was neither sophisticated nor rustic. Service was attentive, polished and exceptionally welcoming -I was even invited to meet the chef. Most definitely will return"

"Went for Restaurant Week lunch. Pleased by the menu because it is one of the few that actually had the specialties on the RW prix fixe. It was quiet and we were given a corner in one of the side rooms, which was perfect because my guest brought her young sleeping infant in a car carrier. We managed to have an amazing meal, without bothering any of the other diners -- a true luxury for my cousin. The Uovo raviolo was a treat though the truffle taste was very mild. The chitarra was very good. Loved the crunch at the bottom of the "Mocha Bar". Nice contrast in the guanciale wrapped tuna, but could have used a kick of wasabi. Bass was well cooked. Yummy cheese wrapped in Chestnut leaves though the girl slicing didnt know what it was."

We were frequent patrons of the old San Domenico on Central Park South. This is a completely different restaurant that will appeal more to a "younger" crowd. The noise level is pretty high but the food and service remain very good. The location is good for the local neighborhood and, perhaps, "Wall Streeters" but is inconvenient for theater/opera which was one of the attractions of the previous venue."

"This was our first visit to SD26. It won't be our last. "Great food. Service very disorganized but attentive once they find you. When I arrived, I was told I was the first to arrive. My wife arrived shortly thereafter and she was told the same thing.We found one another. Then we waited 30 minutes for everyone else to arrive only to learn that they had actually arrived before us, had been seated and the waitstaff was waiting for our arrival. We asked three different people to open our bottle of wine. Each one said yes and promptly disappeared. We sat for more than 30 minutes waiting for someone, anyone, to open that bottle. Each waiter was however very courteous at the table. We would return for the food and the ambience, hoping the service kinks are worked out."

"This was my second time dining here and I am still impressed. The food is great and the service is up there as well. Great for business or pleasure. "I expected more from this place...the food was "ok"...i suggested it to my manager for our team dinner and I found my teammates (ages 30-50yrs old) extremely confused by the menu. their lack of enthusiasm was a bummer..but I understood why, as their were few app's we could "share"..we did the mozzarella/arichoke heart dish and the salad.our waiter, Neil, was extremely attentive.the service was fabulous.the group agreed the food was good, but it's "different" with some items that people won't eat.view the menu prior to going!"

"I have now been for lunch and dinner and would recommend this restaurant highly. The dinner scene is obviously much more lively and there is a good mix of people. The food is top notch and the salumi some of the best in the city. On the down side I'm not in love with the wine list being computerized - I prefer to hold the list in my hands and flip the pages, as opposed to scrolling on a keypad."

"The food is impeccably prepared and delicious, but portions are small and expensive. We paid about $80 per person for lunch and we were sharing plates. The electronic wine list that is handed to you on an ipod-type device is a little annoying. The lighting, all from halogen-like fixtures above, is unflattering and too bright. Note dining room has no views of Madison Park. Next time I'll stick to bar upfront which does look onto the park."

"Bar area looked great and promising. Dining room is back is huge! Waiter had an issue with his electronic tablet, didn't really know how to use it. Kept forgeting items or who ordered what. Came for truffle menu which unfortunately was nothing to write home about- average or below. Steak tartare not flavorful. Raviolo al'uvo the pasta was too thick. Owners were deligtful though. I'd come back for the bar but the restaurant did not meet expectations and for the price I'd rather be at A Voce."

"We went for their Christmas Dinner Prix-Fixe menu. The food was excellent. The portion sizes were not consistent though. Some seemed a little excessive (sweetbreads/chitarra), other dishes left you wanting a bit more (ravioli). Overall the food was very good. My one complaint was that the man who served the food need to ask which diner was having which dish. It really detracted from the experience and left me feel like I was eating at the neighborhood pizza joint and not an upscale restaurant. That being said, I would definitely love to come back and try out their regular menu."

"Outstanding Northern Italian cuisine. Pastas are delicate and flavorful, the the fish preparations are very good. Menu allows patrons to order virtually every dish in either appetizer or entree size, which allows individuals or tables to sample a wide range of menu offerings. Room is very modern, so folks accustomed to the old San Domenico will be surprised by change. On whole, a very good dining experience. Wine list is surprisingly affordable, with a broad range of offerings."

"I went on Xmas day and there was a limited set menu at which I was initially disappointed, but the price (for 3 courses) was reasonable for such a quality establishment and the choices on offer seemed a good representation of the capabilities of the kitchen. Food was very good to excellent, the only disappointment being a slightly bland roasted sea bass entree. I don't usually have a desert, but being a set menu 'forced' myself to try the hazelnut slice and did not regret it at all. I loved the decor, the spaciousness of the bar and especially the help yourself wine bar. Service was efficient and mostly attentive."

"I could not believe the attitude that the restaurant hostess and manager exhibited. We had an 8:30 reservation and they told us there was about a 15 minute wait. The hostess did not invite us to the bar to wait and she did not offer to take our coats! Then 20 minutes later, we inquired about our table and the hostess said it would be another 10 minutes. We asked to speak to the manager. The manager, looking all of 20 years old, comes over and basically takes no ownership. He said that in NYC it's normal to have to wait 10 minutes or so for a table and offered to show us the packed dining room. Clearly he could not do math nor did he subscribe to the belief that the customer is always right. I would not go back again."

"The service was impeccable, the staff incredibly friendly and knowledgeable (especially the awesome sommelier), and the proprietors are charming -- they greeted us warmly and stopped by to say hello and thank us for dining with them. The food was out of this world -- so delicious. Definitely try the uovo -- it was a taste of heaven. By far, SD26 provided us the best bang for our buck the entire week we were in New York. As we were leaving, we were already remarking that we couldn't wait to return. SD26 will be on our list every time we're in the city."

"I had been going to San Domenico for years and mourned the loss until I came across a mention that the baton had been passed and the daughter of San Domenico's creator had opened a 2.0 version on 26th. My folks were in town and as the four of us loved the original, went to the new (and improved?) version with excitement and trepidation. This most certainly is not her father's San Domenico. It's got a very vibrant bar area a much larger dining space and a second level with private nooks. Even has a chef's table. You can see the cheeses and starter meats being sliced in one area and full kitchen in the other. Wine list is given to you on large 'IPod' devices. Much noisier, but luckily the food is absolutely incredible. All four loved it."

"Food is good, but other better options in city. Probably won't be back.
We ordered a great bottle of wine, but it took a half hour to arrive (after numerous attempts to get the waiter's attention). The menu is very confusing and needs some explaining, but our waiter couldn't be found. We had to ask the waiter for specials because he never told us about them. The appetizers (soups, buffalo moz and artichokes) were great, but the main course left a little bit to be desired. The steak for two was great, but it had so much fat on it, that only half was ok to eat. So it was more like steak for one. The fettucine with white truffles was drenched in oil, and not at all prepared well. The best part was candy bar dessert."

"A very enjoyable evening. The restaurant had good energy, and was visually pleasing with unique decor. Service was very good - attentive and pleasant. "Love the design and layout of the restaurant. The food was very good. Everything was very well-prepared. The enomatic machines are a great idea. I just wish they would offer wines that they don't offer by the glass. This would be a lot better usage of the idea of getting to "taste" certain wines. Also, I know it's an italian restaurant but some non-Italian wines to taste from the enomatic machine would be great as well.

The only real problem with our experience was the service. The waiter was not attentive to our needs at all and lacked any form of grace or understanding of how to provide good service. The busser in our section was much friendlier and responsive."

"This was a disappointment in several respects. The desserts were very good but the rest of the food was not up to the standard of many other restaurants in this price range. The butternut squash ravioli were lovely except for the really excessive butter melted over it; the house-made spaghetti featured a fine tomato sauce but the noodles themselves were significantly undercooked. The entrees were both acceptable, but not surprising or delightful in any way. The service was the worst part of the experience. There appeared to be some highly professional members of the waitstaff, especially the assistant servers, but our main waiter was brusque and inattentive, not only to us but to diners seated at nearby tables as well."

"The people were wonderful and service was top notch. They make everything fresh including the breads, and we love our breads and theirs were excellent. Appetizers were very good, the fresh pasta Al Dente and the Butternut Squash Ravioli with Sage were delicious. Dessert was also very good - I would venture to say perfect, we each had the Milk Chocolate Hazelnut bar with orange sauce. The Entrees, however, were bland (we went to their 1st Thanksgiving meal), Entree portions were skimpy as well. For Thanksgiving you want to get more. Overall we would probably eat there again to give it a second try because of the creativity of the menu. The waitstaff treats you like royalty; the owner like old friends. Overall a very nice experience."

"Went for Thanksgiving and enjoyed their prix fixe menu. Wife was able to get traditional turkey and I was able to get something less traditional - veal ossobucco. "What a trip of a place!! High-end Italian food served in a Vegas-like setting. I don't know that I'd go there to propose marriage, but I'd certainly take a bunch of old friends from college to impress them. The food and service are both excellent, and the room simply couldn't be less New York City -- which makes it a real standout of sorts. As long as you like that kind of scene, of course..."
