Delmonico's began as the first restaurant in the United States and has had a profound impact on American dining tradition. Our setting is where nearly two centuries of notable poets, affluent socialites, celebrities and presidents have celebrated in the splendor that is Delmonico's. Delmonico's welcomes Executive Chef Bill Oliva our kitchen. While preserving the classic dishes such as Lobster Newburg, Delmonico's Steak and Baked Alaska, Bill brings a level of culinary sophistication to Delmonico's with his addition of creative seafood offerings and other inventive dishes.
"The lobster newburgh was great. Service was distracted. Room has no real character--bland decor. I would like to return to try some other dishes, but the place itself didn't exert any pull on me."

"We had the Lobster Newburgh which was really excellent although not served as hot as it should have been. The service is lacking--waiters seemed to be more interested in congregating and talking among themselves than in being attentive to any customer in the room. The feel in the dining room is rather cold and artificial--which is so bizarre given the history of this place. But the place is an oasis in this abandoned neighborhood--there are so few decent places to eat here now."

"The service was amazing, the servers where very attentive and the ambience was classy yet inviting. The food us great, my husband had the steak that he said melts in your mouth and I had the Lobster Newburgh that was absolutely amazing."

"The lobster newburg was really good--but was not as hot as a hot dish should be. The room seems to be lacking something--it's like a dining room in a pricy suburban hotel. No buzz. The wait staff are pleasant enough, but no better than you'd expect at a mid-priced national chain restaurant. I had hoped this place would be a lot more sophisticated--particularly considering the prices."

"I have never been a fan of "the steakhouse", until I dined at Delmonico's. I was reluctant to go and afraid of the historic and potentially touristy crowd and I could not have been more wrong. There is nothing typical at this downtown dining destination. Delmonico's serves the finest aged steaks, chops and classic dishes that somehow seem better than the multitude of four-star establishments in NYC. Don't be intimated by Delmonico's legendary past, for its charm, sophisticated interiors and formal service are appreciated without being stuffy. Delmonico's is an iconic restaurant that has earned its five star status and its a place that NY needs to rediscover again and again."

"The place was nice. The food was perfect. The waiter was perfect. He was the type of waiter Mr. Carson of Downton Abbey would hire. The drinks were BETTER than perfect. I feel like I have been drinking mixed drinks incorrectly my whole life after that. The butter tastes like a french farmer churned it two minutes ago.
There is a man assigned only with the task of bringing people steak knives. I would recommend the lamb to everything with a mouth."

"I reserved a table not really knowing what to expect, but the history of the restaurant and the photos on their site swayed me. The photos don't do Delmonico's justice, it's a beautiful restaurant that makes you feel as if you're eating in a Gatsby scene. The waiter was terrific. My girlfriend and I ate there on the occasion of our engagement and the house made us feel welcome and served a complimentary baked Alaska.
Terrific."

"One of the best restaurants in town! Great food and service. Lobster Newburgh is excellent and the steaks where cooked to perfection. Also the Foraged mushrooms where very good and the must is baked Alaska."

"Eating at Delmonico's takes you back to a different era when going to a restaurant was dining not just eating. The atmosphere is beautiful and the wait staff is amazingly attentive, yet not obtrusive. Whether you order the traditional and incredibly tender Delmonico steak, deliciously prepared Lobster Newburg or the melt in your mouth Halibut, you will not be disappointed. If you're too full, order just one and share it, but don't leave without trying the Baked Alaska!"

"Beets & burrata appetizer surprisingly tasty. Excellent squid risotto. Best steaks we've ever had. Sat in the booth area...was wonderfully intimate & romantic. Will definitely return when visiting NYC."

"We arrived on time and waited to be seated. When shown to a table the restaurant had put together a couple of tables for a large group and we (two of us) were placed next to them but facing the entrance instead of the restaurant. I moved one of the chairs to face into the restaurant but was rudely told by the chief waiter that this would be in the way and we had to face the door. We should have given up at this stage but we stayed. The diners fell into two categories (a Friday night): pairs of tourists like us, expecting an upmarket restaurant, and groups of male workers loudly celebrating the end of the week or whatever. The steaks were not brilliant. This restaurant is vastly overpriced and I would advise anyone to steer clear."

"Class and quality beam from that historical establishment. Though very pricey it is the best business attire lunch and dinner place in the neigborhood, hands down (and not in the basement...)"

"The food was fine, but the service was so poor that it took away from the entire dining experience. Steaks were fine, but nothing special. After the plates were cleared, we tried to get our waiter's attention for 45 minutes (originally to get more wine and, when that didn't happen, to get the check so we could leave). Eventually (with the hostess's help), we were able to pay and leave -- a full hour after we sat there with nothing on our table except empty glasses. I will never go back. New York has many steakhouses, most with better food and excellent service."

"The food was outstanding especially the veal Ragu appetizer and the lamb The service was good until the end It seems a celebrity of some sort must have come in because all eyes seemed focused on the back of the restaurant and we were pretty much forgotten We had to ask to have our table cleared were not offered another round of drinks never offered the dessert menu What started out as a wonderful dinner turned out to be quite disappointing"

"A signature dining experience. The steak is absolutely amazing. Food is cooked perfectly and the service is always great. A landmark restaurant with rich history - but the food is relevant and delicious. I highly recommend Delmonicos."

"I always find the dining experience at Delmonico's whether being a special personal occasion or a business dinner to be first-class. The ambience & impeccable service add to a great meal with all entrées exquisitely prepared. This makes for a memorable evening in "old" New York style. Relaxing pace and you can conduct a normal conversation at the table which is something of a novelty these days in most noisy restaurants which I could never understand. It has stood the test of time since 1837 and I believe that is why!"

"Melt-in-your mouth steak, though we did notice that night that everything from the butter to the steak to the creamed spinach, was extra salty. Still tasty, though."

"I loved the ambiance at Delmonico. I like to try all types of restaurants even though I am vegetarian and the menu options may be limited. At Delmonico's I was hoping to find at least one vegetarian dish such as a pasta or risotto as an option. There wasn't one and I had the sides, which were good. Delmonico's should consider expanding their options."

"Excellent food and service! We had a Zagat's "dinner deal", but the staff treated us very well nonetheless. We added two bottles of wine and several "upgrades" from the Zagat's menu, which we had planned to do. It was a pricey dinner, which we had expected, but was well worth it."

"Brought my wife to NY City for her birthday. This restaurant was recommended by a local friend. Very classy, relaxed atmosphere. Great wine selection; Her steak was done to perfection; my lobster newburg was excellent, very flavorful. Baked alaska was great! I cannot say enough about our waiter - knowledgeable, polite, friendly & discreet. We will be going there again on our next trip."

"Took my daughter there for early dinner. Delmonico's has a huge wine list. The steaks and baked alaska were outstanding. Johnny, our waiter, was a lot of fun and gave great accounts of some of the restaurants history. Since we ate early, the place was pretty empty, but began filling up after 6. I will definatly return next time i'm in New York."

"Steaks were amazing. Our whole party enjoyed the various cuts we ordered. The Delmonico Potatoes were incredible. Made me wish I had ordered a second batch for the table. The only knock I have was the hash browns. They were terrible. They were burnt on the outside and no flavor on the inside. Overall, everything else was top notch as I would expect at an elite steakhouse."

"We arrived early and they were able to seat us right away. They were very friendly and pleasing. Igor, our waiter, took the time to explain some of the popular items on the menu and very well knowledged with the wine list. Igor also introduced us to the executive chef who is very well known. If anyone I thinking about going to this "historic" restaurant, don't hesitate and just GO! The Delmonico steak was superb and the lobster Newburgh was phenomenal!!!! And let's not forget the whipped mashed potatoes and cream spinach! Excellent and can't wait to go back!"
