"Love the tomato basil soup but something recently changed don't like it spicy. It is not supposed to be spicy. It was perfect as it was.Same with meatloaf that has changed as well, So I do not order it. Also bring back the pork dishes. I appreciate that they can make changes do to allergies."

"We don't go out often, but love Not your average Joe's when we do. They have great drinks and delicious and well prepared food. Not your average Joe's is much less expensive than our favorite high end restaurants but the food is nearly as good. Pleasant decor, great service. Dishes are well prepared, tasty and not overly salty or greasy unlikely many restaurants in this price range. The menu has a nice variety of options so sometimes I actually have trouble deciding what to order because so many entrees sound so good. We got Buffalo chicken tenders and Tuna wontons for appetizers. The chicken tenders were what my son wanted, but somewhat greasy for me. Tuna wontons were amazing! So tasty and loved by everyone."

"We go here several times a year as a group to get together to celebrate birthdays and other occasions. Its a friendly place that accommodates requests and inquiries. On this trip, the waitress seemed a little distracted or something and the service was not as good as usual, but still an enjoyable lunch."

"I booked a table for "Mother's Day Bruch," expecting NYAJ's usually excellent food and service. Sadly, all they offered was their usual, typical lunch menu. There were a couple of "chef special" items, but nothing that I'd call "brunch."
While the food was good, there was little to suggest it was a "Mother's Day Brunch," rather than a typical day's lunch. Overall, on that day, a disappointing experience.
Go to NYAJ's for lunch or dinner - don't take your family for a holiday celebration. There are far better options for brunch."

"It was awesome!....the food, the ambience .......................only thing was our server and we've come to this particular restaurant in Acton for 6 years once a month religiously................................... WAS the server - He was just too casual, over confident, not friendly or cordial......just too aloof , plastic, no sincerity ...............for the first time since we've been coming to Not Your Average Joe's we were given an evaluation form already filled out and once the I pointed out the mistake nothing was done in response"

"This is a great all-occasion spot, with a fairly high energy level that is as good for meeting friends as a relaxing dinner with the kids. The menu offers a broad selection, with great dinner salads as well as meatier entrees. The kids' options are great too.

"Lesson learned - if we want a private dinner for two, we will request a booth. We were celebrating my husband's 71 birthday and we were seated at a table for two with one side sharing a long bench seat with other patrons. Sitting next to 5 teen-age girls texting & taking pictures & hooting & hollering was not optimal for our particular occasion. The food and service were excellent though."

"hi :-(
well, we were pretty bummed this visit. hoping it was not because we made reservations via open table or because I had the birthday complimentary coupon thing. Our service was ok but our usually FAVE appetizer, Rhode Island Calamari...was awful! Tasted like rubber bands & the usual awesomly grilled bread was a soggy...we sent it back. Then, the tortilla soup could have been ok, couldn't tell cu it was SO hot, it burnt my taste buds :-(...finally, our cheese pizza...it was ok...but not as good as it usually is, per my girls, (my taste buds were burnt for rest of the nite, so I couldn't even eat a whole piece. Not sure what was up this Mon @ NYAJ's in Acton, as we have been big fans for years and eat there alot...not anymore :-("

"I see their big competitor as th 99s. Joe's menu features items that don't look and taste like they came off the rack. Everything is a little special. Not quite home cooking. Just a little bit more exotic. Spices are expertly chosen and applied. Dishes are artfully arranged. We always choose joes now, over the 9's, because you might as well get a special meal, if you are going out.
Appetizers are varied. They have a nice bar area. It is a great place to dine as a couple or as a larger group. Try the on line reservation system. It is an easy way to assure that a table will be ready."

"NYAJ is not what it used to be. One used to be able to order anything on the menu and pay less than $15 or $16, with many choices in the $10-11 range. Burgers were, like, $8. Now, there are entrees approaching $25 and the burgers are $12 or $13. Ok, I get why the prices went up, but did the quality have to drop concurrently? They've had a mustard crusted chicken and a meat loaf of their menu FOREVER and both were delicious when they started out; now both taste entirely institutional. The Mediterranean chicken had two puny pieces of chicken. The only winner on the table was my son's Chicken Caesar which was actually loaded with chicken."

"My husband and I took my uncle on his 75th b-day. The place was packed so I was very glad that I had made a reservation. We were seated right away and we got a booth as requested! Our meals were superb and my uncle's was FREE (he's a member of the birthday club)! Our waitress was friendly, personable, and knowledgeable...a true professional. Thank you!"

"I've eaten here several times and the food is always excellent. The noise level is a bit higher than I would prefer, perhaps they could install some sound absorbers. This time we chose the restaurant for its convenient location as well as our expectation of good food. My only disappointment was that the dessert special was sold out and even our waitperson didn't know until she checked to find out why it was taking so long. This was especially disappointing because I had selected my meal based on "saving room" for that particular dessert."

"Seven of us dined at Not Your Average Joe's on Saturday night. Our waiter, Cameron, was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable , and served our food at just the right pace. It was easy to get his attention when we wanted more wine, and he brought us extra plates & spoons as we ordered 3 desserts to share amongst us. The cost was so reasonable. We will be back soon."

"NYAJ's is consistently good. The wait staff is always professional and attentive, AND there are enough of them!! The menu is extensive with ever-changing specials and they have one of the best wine lists around, especially given the fact that NYAJ's is not a "5 *****"

"My husband and I have been at this restaurant well over a dozen times and have always rated this restaurant the same. It is a dependably very good but the menu is not very creative. "One of my favorite chain restaurants. Eclectic menu, something for everyone. Lots of options for kids. Servers go the extra mile to make sure your satisfied and informed. "We took my mother, age 90, to Easter dinner at Joe's as she eats very little and we knew there would be something for her there. Hubby and I each ordered the Shrimp Fettucine with Goat Cheese Pesto. Delicious! Wouldn't hesitate to order it again.
Mom ordered kid's portion of Sirloin tips, with mashed potatoes and green beans. Mashed great, green beans now asparagus (perhaps for adult tastebuds?); sadly the tips were overcooked and stringy. Bottom line: Mom could not eat them after just 2 bites.
Dessert: caramel brulee cheesecake -- perfect to split between all 3 of us.
Our server, Kim, was gracious and attentive, kept our iced tea glasses filled. A+ for her!"

"A group of us went here to celebrate a birthday. The drinks were very good. The bread and dipping sauce can't be beat! Our entrees were delicious and it was my first time trying potato kugel! We split the desserts, a key lime pie and the "peanut butter thing", which is an ice cream pie with chunks of peanut butter. The ice cream pie was good, but it was so hard we thought we were going to break the dish trying to get piece of the pie to eat. Both desserts were good and we certainly enjoyed them. Bonus! Their "doggy bag" containers are plastic and not styrofoam!! I do miss their boxes with reheating instructions, but anything is better than styrofoam."

"We have been regulars here for quite a while and have always looked forward to dinner at NYAJ. I have to say, this time around we were disappointed. The quality is just uneven; soup and their wonderful bread and olive oil were great; the wine list has many good choices by the glass and the my husband liked the featured beer; but the entrees were just not of the usual caliber that we get at Joe's. I had a flounder dish that was swimming in butter sauce and had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp way too long, so when it arrived it was soggy and tasteless. My husband had a lamb special that used canned artichokes, really ruined the dish for him. I wish I could recommend this place as wholeheartedly as I used to, not this time."
