"My family has been going to charivari for more than ten years. It has an elegant atmosphere where you can actually have a conversation without having to shout. The food is good European fare. It's expensive, so more for special occasions than regular dining."

"The food was excellent as it has been during previous visit and there are always new things to try in addition to some classic dishes. The food is central European with including lots of German and Romanian influenced dishes. The extraordinary homemade cakes are not to be missed including some probably not found anywhere in Houston. The service is also great and there is a good selection of wines available at decent prices."

"Was preparing for a return vacation to Europe in May and noticed the interesting & much appreciated Charivari special German menu message in my email. The mention of so many special items featuring "spargel" (white asparagus) instantly brought back fond memories (& cravings) for this carefully grown delicacy, which is treasured each year in Germany especially, during Spring. We were not disappointed. The special multi-course "business dinner" featured asparagus soup, a side of tender asparagus with my delicious Holstein schnitzel. Together with a complimentary pâté' appetizer, a refreshing mid-course apple cinnamon sorbet, a scrumptious rhubarb cobbler with homemade ice cream and berries, accompanied by the perfectly poured German pilsner."

"If you want a true fine dining experience with unparalleled service, this is the place. Every aspect of the meal was well thoughtout and the guest is treated as such. Maria runs the dining room and no request is too small. Let her help you with the menu and beverage pairings. Same room for Chef Johann's homemade desserts, the chocolate hazelnut torte and lemon creme brulee torte were outstanding. Cuisine is European, a melange of German, Swiss, Romanian, French, Hungarian. Prices on the higher side, but portions were overly generous and quality is excellent. Perfect for a romantic dinner for two, special occasion or power business dinner. Charivari is like no other restaurant in Houston."

"I would never go back to this place. Terrible service (took us 45 mins to just get a waiter/waitress to acknowledge us and bring water) to say the least. There was no professional waitstaff, only 3 women who didn't speak English and a number of bus boys. I've never been to a restaurant where it took them 30 mins to just process my credit card. The food was poorly prepared and tasted awful. Worst of all, I went for a special valentine's day dinner. Its pathetic to think that the owners can't operate their restaurant properly on a holiday like valentine's day. For the amount of money they are charging, they can at least cook your steak the way you asked for it. I wouldn't even go back there if they agreed to reimbursed me."

"The restaurant is lovely, relaxing, and service was attentive. The owner greeted us, and described the specials. Her recommendation of Dover sole was perfect. It was buttery and delicious. "I discovered Charivari from a recommendation from a friend and it has quickly become one of my favorites. The menu has a nice variety of choices, plus there is always a seasonal or specialty menu with additional selections. The chef is warm and friendly and will offer to make you something special if you have specific dietary needs. A tofu Marsala he whipped up for me one evening is now my favorite. I love this place and I highly recommend checking it out."
