Milton Inn
The Milton Inn, a 273 year old field-stone building in Northern Baltimore County,is counted among Maryland's historic treasures. It is believed that construction of the Inn began in 1740 and it has grown and changed over the years to become one of the premier country dining spots in the United States. The tradition of excellence has continued to grow under the current ownership Milton Fare Inc, who purchased the business in 1997. Executive Chef/Owner Brian Boston was named Chef of the Year by the Restaurant Association of Maryland in 2011.Chef Boston has also received many other awards including The Five Star Diamond Award by The Academy of Hospitality Sciences , The DiRoNA Award,and top ratings from Zagat. The Milton was named The Best restaurant in the Counties by The Baltimore Sun . Over the years , the Inn has engendered a legacy of romance and numerous couples have become engaged in its candlelit dining rooms and open air garden terrace. Many return year after year to celebrate!

"This has long been a favorite and it never fails to please. It is a lovely restaurant with much character. The staff are so courteous and really go out of their way. The food is to die for and the portions are so plentiful. I always like that they bring out a sample of an appetizer at the beginning. I always try a different entree because there are several good choices."

"I rated the ambience as very good but not outstanding. This in no way is the fault of the staff at The Milton Inn. This is the fault of patrons and their lack of standards for comportment and elegance in first class dining establishments. The food is exquisite, the service superb but many of the patrons are dressed more appropriately for a highway truck stop. Grow up you bunch of blockheads."

"The Milton Inn is located in a stone house on York Rd in Sparks, MD. It's pricey, but worth the price. The food is excellent, both in how it looks, how it tastes, and how much they give you. It's probably not good for kids, but adults will want to return."

"The Milton Inn is a lovely special occasion restaurant. The Inn was a boys' school, one where John Wilkes Booth is said to have attended. There are several smaller sized rooms, all of which are tastefully decorated with different colors. The service is excellent not hovering but attentive. The clams casino were excellent and our steaks were done perfectly. The menu has changed since our visit so be be prepared to pay top dollar."

"Once again, the Milton Inn was our restaurant of choice to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and, as usual, we were very pleased with our evening! Starting off with a couple of very fresh salads, our food was simply delicious. We both had the filet Chesapeake (filet Mignon + crab cake), and both were exceptional: Cooked just right, piping hot, and very tasty! Service was very good - just missed on "exceptional" only because my wife ordered the sweet potatoes and was served the white, but they were great, also. Dessert - the cheesecake - was good but not extraordinary. Very enjoyable night - we hope to return next year, if not sooner!"

"I was disappojnted in that my Rack of Lamb was cooked medium rare to rare, and I asked for it to be not less than medium. In addition, my wife's signiture steak dish was very overcooked We orderd a serving of rusitto, and it never came. I believe we were charges doe it, but was not in a position to cahck the bill with my dinner quests. Our bill was nearly $200, and we only had three drinks and 4 glasses of the house wine! Given that fair qual;ity food, and the fact that the Milton Inn is one of, if not the most expensive resturant in our immediate area (incliding The Oregon Grill), we have no reason to ever return to the Milton Inn again for dinner!"

"The Milton Inn provides a romantic environment with good food, and excellent service. Food was very flavorful and presented well. There were a lot of specials, which were not listed on the menu. Although the waiter described them well, it would have been nice to be able to read the descriptions (and see the prices)to ponder them. Prices were higher than perhaps may have been warranted, but portions were generous. I would recommend for a special occasion only."

"We went there for our Anniversary - they had seated us in a romantic room where noise level was at a minimum. The Pan Seared Duck Breast was superb along with the Filet Mignon with Crab cake. "We are regulars at the Milton Inn and usually are extremely pleased, so I guess one "off" night is not bad. It began when the waiter had to scoop up a stink bug from my side of the table, continued with rockfish soaked in a sauce, and finished with a noisy table of six near us who obviously never learned the term "inside" voice in kindergarten."

"The Milton Inn has long been our family's favorite for special occasions. However, I was disappointed in our Easter brunch. The menu was limited and there was nothing particularly exciting. I had hoped their holiday brunch would be exceptional but it was only okay. I think they've missed an opportunity with their brunch offering. We will continue to frequent the restaurant for dinners but don't believe their brunch will be in our future."

"We had Easter brunch at the Milton Inn and while the food was acceptable, what was advertised and what we got were two different things on a few occasions. My wife ordered tea. She was brought a Lipton tea bag. Considering the way you market the inn as a more upscale and unique dining experience, we were surprised that she was not offered a choice or variety of higher quality teas. I ordered the steak and eggs as my entree which was advertised as filet medallions and hash browns. I did not receive medallions. It was one larger piece to steak. When my entree arrived the potatoes were not hash browns. They were more of a home fries. The waiter said that's how we do them. For dessert I got sherbet NOT sorbet. A disappointment."

"Had a lovely brunch, items on menu not normally found in other restaurants. Room was noisy, mostly because of a large party that seemed to trying to have conversations from one end of a long table to the other. Service was quick, professional and unobtrusive, just the way it should be. Reasonably sized portions, high quality ingredients well prepared and presented. Parking is a bit challenging. Did not see entire property, but decor and furnishings that I did see were top-notch. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and relatives."

"Our server, Farrell, was very attentive but not over-bearing. We never needed to ask for anything. I had one of the specials (lobster tail, veal w/emmanthal(sp?)cheese and a small filet mignon) this dish came with Jack Tarr potatoes and veggies of the day. It came hot and not over-cooked. My had the 16oz NY Strip and asked for it rare but it came much more medium/med-rare. He is not a complainer so we did not ask for a correction and he enjoyed the steak just the same. My husband had the Shellfish Sampler (mussels, shrimp, lobster tail, fish and spinach risotto). Again the meal was delicious and the portions warranted the price charged. Only the risotto was left as it was overcooked but the delicious shellfish overshadowed the risotto."

"Overall a good experience, however, I was disappointed in some of the food. I had a Ceasar salad and the dressing was minimal and tasteless. It was very disappointing. I had a New York Strip steak which was tender and cooked properly but did not have much taste (they warn you that they use only salt and pepper). My wife had a spinach salad and fillet. She said both were good and she enjoyed them. For dessert the cheese cake was very good. Bottom line is the service and the environment are both excellent but I thought nothing was very special about the food except the price. I thought it was over priced and could have been much better -- especially for $200 for two people."

"Our first time to Milton Inn - a fabulous dinner!! A beautiful, historic building - one of the servers gave me a sheet on the building's history. I'm not sure if you can request upstairs dining when making a reservation, but that's what I will do next time. We ate in the main dining room - very nice, but the upstairs was just a bit more secluded (I probably feel that way because we were seated right next to the door - so we saw everyone come and go). The meal was perfect - and I was surprised that the wine was reasonably priced as far as higher end restaurants go. Overall a great meal with friends! 'Business Casual' attire is perfect - although there were a couple of diners more casual - wearing (nice) denim."

The service is prompt, knowledgeable, and patient. Food is a culinary tour of all that is fresh/available at the time in Maryland and surrounding areas. Cooked to perfection and presented timely. Desserts are made in house and delicious.
