Mideastro is a bolt from the blue, er, Vaughan. Mediterranean fusion, Middle Eastern Plus. Chef Benny Cohen is wonderfully brash: He shows just why the Middle East is the spicemeister of the world and he mixes traditions with élan. Fish cocktails are glasses of chopped tuna-tabule salad mixed with different liquors. Couscous, the ME’s fave starch, is handrolled to perfection matched with seafood, drenched in a rich, winey sauce. And there are no meatballs in town to rival the spicy kufta, ground lamb and beef under a foccacia lid with hot yogourt and tahina sauce.

"We have been to Mideastro 4 times and we love it! Sometimes the service can be slow but the food is absolutely delicious. It really is one of the city's gems."

"Had a wonderful experience at Mideastro. The food was excellent and the service very attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and go back again. The ambiance is not too noisy and you can linger over your meal."

"Delicious middle eastern food, sophisticated yet comfortable setting and attentive and informed service - all ingredients for a great evening. Wonderful mixes of flavours - we particularly liked the eggplant appetizer, the fish tagine and the paella. Will definitely return."

"This was our third experience at Mideastro Yorkville and each occasion has been fantastic. The service is friendly and knowledgable and the food is outstanding. The portions were more then enough and the chef does an amazing job with the choices he offers. We highly recommend Mideastro in Yorkville for any occasion."

"It was our first time here and we had mixed feelings. My husbands dish which was a recommendation from our server was excellent. We cannot remember the name of it but it was a mixture of meets served in a pot with a pastry "lid". Very good. My stuffed portabello mushroom had no flavour because of lack of spices. The quinoa with it was excellent. The server and host tried very hard though to make up my disappointment from offering fresh truffles to changing the dish entirely. Even though this dish really missed the handling of the disappointment I expressed was very well addressed. It means we will go back and give it another try. Very cool interior! Loved that the tables are well spaced and not crammed together like so many plac"

"The atmosphere and food were good. It was too expensive for what you got. They nickle and dime you by charging $15 for water that is in a decanter already on your table without telling you there is a charge. The special was Bison Wellington. They did not say the price. A member of our party ordered it and there was a charge of $60. It was too expensive for what you got. I've been to better restaurants that didn't charge as much. The recommended wine tyrmed out to be $93 a bottle. Against steep. The meal was over $ 650 for 6 before tip. For that kind of money I would prefer elsewhere in the city. Won't be running back. They are out pricing themselves."

"Interesting blend of herbs and spices makes this a great spot for foodies. Wait staff friendly. Only slight negative - enjoyed the booth for the ambiance and ease of talking with the whole group but the booth seats were a little uncomfortable"

"I had been very excited to try Mideastro having heard so many good things about it. Being middle-eastern myself and having experienced traditional middle-eastern cooking my whole life, I was eager to taste their "new spin" on the cuisine of the region.
I was surprised by some of the menu items and ingredient choices. Burrata, for example, while Mediterranean, is not something typically employed in mideastern cooking. Still, I would have afforded them great latitude had they executed these dishes well. As it turned out, I was disappointed.
Among the 5 appetizers 4 entrees and 2 desserts at our table, there was nothing that I would go back for. The service was pleasant and attentive but the food simply didn't measure up."
