Husk Restaurant
Occupying adjacent spaces on Queen Street, Husk’s structures date back to the late 1800s. The main dining room, constructed in 1893, evokes the grandeur of Charleston, and speaks to the transformation of the city over time. Victorian details and turned columns were layered over the original Queen Anne-style façade through the years, and the buildings fell into disrepair until discovered by Husk ownership. The Neighborhood Dining Group President David Howard set into a motion an extensive remodeling effort of both.
Although both buildings retain their antique charm and stately character, the renovations imbued each with a modern, minimalist theme. Like the reinterpreted food served within, each space has been laid bare, revealing reclaimed floors, original windows, and exposed brick throughout. The main house features an open kitchen with a wood-burning oven and dining room.

"totally over rated. We couldn't find anything we wanted to order. Pigs ears lettuce wraps!!! Really, the server was trying to talk us into it, I said that's something I give my dog! She said she hasn't tried them either.....I am not a fan of soup, and that's the only thing that I ordered that sounded ok. My daughter had hangar stead, totally over done. Plus she is a pastry chef, and was NOT impressed with any dessert. I really LOVE the bar! Great apps and excellent drinks. My recommendation, skip the restaurant go have heavy apps and cocktails."

"Husk has clearly been shucked. We had early reservations (5:45) and the staff seemed I'll prepared for the evening. We were the third group to be seated in our area and the last to get bread. The food was slow as were the drinks and it was relatively unappetizing. We went to husk for a food adventure, prepared to try new things and we ended up with what felt like a slow and very overpriced disappointment. With the glut of restaurants of the day in Charleston, Husk will likely be the next slowly withering Oak on the block."

"I am a food lover and I loved this place. The menu was an inventive take on southern cooking with innovative ingredients all locally sourced. I highly recommend dinner here and if the weather is good, request a table on the upper porch."

"Fantastic time at Husk this past Saturday. My girlfriend and I enjoyed a wine on the porch while waiting for our table, taking in the fine Charleston night. Our server was fantastic; attentive and knowledgeable. I'd love to tell you about the entree; but before we could approach that together we put down 5 appetizers. We just couldn't get enough. 5 appetizers, two entrees (pork and pheasant), three bourbons and a glass of wine for under $200 at a restaurant that fine? Unheard of. Cannot wait for my next trip.
On a side note: I really wanted to see the kitchen; like a kid full of excitement. I was worried I'd be ushered away but the manager said "It's an open kitchen for a reason". Pure class."

"Unfortunately, my husband and I did not feel that the food met our expectations for a restaurant with such a great reputation. I ordered the chicken for my entree, recommended by the waitress, and was very disappointed to find it dry and bland. My husband's snapper entree was good, but not memorable. The strawberry-rhubarb dessert, a la mode, should have been served warmed but was not. We did, however, enjoy our time and drinks in Husk's bar next door. If we find ourselves in Charleston again, we would be more inclined to return to the bar and try that limited menu."

"My wife and I celebrated our 1st anniversary with a dinner at Husk. The food was amazing, the server was incredibly knowledgeable, and the overall dining experience was great. We started with the ham plate and the pig ear lettuce wraps - both were delicious. My wife got the chicken with rizzoto and I ordered an off-menu special they had that night, a bone-in ribeye over a potato "salad" - both entrees were cooked wonderfully and presented extremely well. We also got two sides - the cask iron skillet cornbread and the grits - these two were great."

"I'd anticipated this meal for some time, having wanted to make it down to charleston expressly to go to husk. It lived up to expectations. Great takes on a southern base. Very fresh. Skilled subtleties in all of our dishes. The "signature" pig ear wraps were phenomenal. A great array of non-alcoholic drinks with lots of thought into their composition. Some nice craft hard-ciders on hand as well. Fantastic service. Overall great experience and can't wait to make it back."

"There was an article on epicurious.com that named this as a must eat place in Charleston so we thought we'd give it a try. We had a nice late lunch on the porch (made for a relaxing atmosphere). The cocktails were unique and the food was very good. Based on the article, we tried the Shrimp and Grits which were served with an egg on top (different than anywhere else I've had them) and the cheeseburger was flavorful. The service was great. As I said, very good, but for the money there are other places in Charlston that wowed us."

"Phenomenal overall! Service fabulous! Dinner out of this world! Everything made in house. Southern ham selections were mouth watering porky goodness! Husband's pheasant so tender it cut with a fork. "The food was absolutely amazing. We went for mother's day brunch and it was wonderful! My father had the pigs ear app and it was one of the best dishes i have ever tried. I had the biscuits with gravy app and the Monte Carlo dish for my meal. Both were to die for and were VERY filling. My mom ordered the pancakes which were HUGE and delish! The whole experience was great, with a wonderful waiter. We will definitely be coming back!"

"Husk was accommodating when asked if we could arrive earlier than our reservation. We were greeted with "Happy Birthday" written across our menus, & we're seated at a table we preferred over the one taken to.
Hostess summary: Very Good.

We ordered: Sweet Onion Soup-wonderful, Shrimp & Grits-very good, Fried Catfish & Succatash-nice, House Specialty Hamburger -good & moist (BBQ pulled pork sandwhich would have been a better choice). Lastly, Donut Holes w/ Peanut Butter & Rhubarb sauces (came w/ a candle lit) - good. Overall Husk is a nice place to dine, must be good for dinner as well, food consultantly good but not brilliant."

"Diverse and interesting menu. We had the sampling of hams appetizer and while it was very good, the addition of some different condiments paired with each type of ham would be welcome. I had their pheasant and it was superb, my wife shared the 22oz ribeye with another in our party and found it not to be as tender as it should be in a restaurant like Husk. Exceptional service from all providers and they were very knowledgeable. Not the best meal we had in Charleston, but we would return."

"We're from the San Francisco Bay Area, no slouch food-wise.
Our recent lunch at Husk has to rank up there with the best Foodie restaurants in the Bay.
The concept, food, presentation and service are all lovingly delivered.
We got a kick out of knowing that everything comes from sources south of the Mason-Dixon line.
We started with the Whiskey flight and loved the Willet Rye in particular.
I had the Shrimp n' Grits, and it was the best I've ever had. Wife had the housemade burger. Again, simply an awesome assembly of meat, bun and extras.

"We were traveling to Charleston for a couple of days and looking for places to eat and I found Husk. They had me hooked at pig ear wraps. The hubby was suspect, but one he tasted them, he was a convert. His shrimp and grits were heavenly. The chocolate mint parfait, devine. Husk is a must to anyone who is staying in Charleston."

"Delicious meal - had the soft shell crab and ribs which are both starters, but the ribs are pretty big! The place is beautiful and service very good. We were recommended a red wine that I really didn't like, but that's not really her fault! And as it was a Friday night the noise level on the second floor was really very high, be warned! Would definitely go back."

"This was the only "oldie but goodie" that we chose to repeat and we were not disappointed in the least. Menu changes with such frequency that it would be pointless to review individual dishes. "I went with high expectations. The place is fun and the service excellent. The food was good but not outstanding.. The pig's ears were interesting but too salty. The chicken skin good but only if shared. The onion soup delicious but very rich and the vaunted cornbread only delicious if rewarmed and very hot.
Best meal I had in Charleston was Martha Lou's kitchen. Truly outstanding soul food. Best collards I have ever tasted."
