"We were very disappointed with the main course dishes chosen: Somen Noodles and Orechiette. The Somen Noodle dish lacked depth of flavour. Barely noticed the sesame oil or basil and the tofu might never have mingled with chile/chilli. Basically boring. The Orechiette is listed as coming with asparagus, fava beans, scallions, chard, radishes, chicken all folded in a minted pea cream sauce with lemon zest. I ordered the dish (without chicken) because of the fava beans. This ingredient was completely absent from the dish. Instead the dish seemed mainly to comprise the pasta chard and green beans; possibly there was some asparagus but its presence was drowned out by the tedious minted pea cream sauce."

"The appetizer and our cocktails were spectacular they set the tone for a Fantastic main course. However we weren't impressed with our main course. The Brazilian Mocheca dish tasted more like a Thai dish I was disappointed since Im not a fan of the Thai soup with coconut milk and since Ive lived in Brazil and had a Mocheca before my expectations are high. The chicken with the chorizo mashpotatoes had no chorizo at all since it didn't taste like chorizo. I would go back for drinks and appetizers but not for dinner I wasn't thrilled with the food"

"Our first time in the actual dining section - other than once at the bar for a quick bite- and we were both impressed with the food, flavors in the food. It was so wonderful - my husband ate all of his entree which was unusual for him. And he kept commenting on how good it was."

"We had a great meal before a concert mid week at the Fox theater. The place was hopping! Not only was the food fantastic, but the feel of being the the "city" was terrific. We had been concerned that the traffic downtown would be difficult due to the construction, but it was actually a breeze. The main dishes were delightful, the cocktails refreshing and tasty and the wine list with many good choices. Love the postings of the local organic farm sources for the veggies etc.

"Janos' reputation as a superior chef drew us to Downtown Kitchen in a recent visit to Tucson. It is obvious the restaurant is successful, judging by the crowd that was there, so I have to assume we just are not the client he hopes to attract. While the food was very good, we found the service merely adequate, and the noise was extreme. The wine list was lacking in depth. I was expecting something much more suitable for a special occasion, but it did not come close for my tastes. It appears to be a favourite place for people to drop in for a drink after work."

"I went to the restaurant with my maid of honor and bridesmaid for a small bridal celebration. We had the best time. The service was exceptional. The food was beautiful and delicious. "Our dining experience at Downtown Kitchen was very disappointing. We had not eaten at the restaurant before but had a guest in town so decided to try it. We sat outside in the evening which was enjoyable and the service was good. Our first course of mussels was excellent and we all enjoyed it. Our guest ordered the special- Mahi Mahi with a coconut sauce over rice. He found it overly sweet but palatable. I ordered the larger green papaya salad. It was mediocre and the chicken, what little there was of it was mushy- like it had been in a marinade too long. My husband ordered the Cioppino. There was little seafood in the broth, catfish being the predominant ingredient and the broth was acidic tasting like vinegar."

We go for quality over quantity but sorry to say we could hardly find the food on our plate. "We had a wonderful night. I had the Cioppino, my husband had the Maple Brined Pork Loin. I was happier with my entree the he was. Overall, we will always come back. We were very fortunate to be able to sit outside. I had reserved, but not outside. I had asked if there was anything outside, there was not. Our host was awesome, she said if something came up she would let us know. Five minutes after we were seated, we were told a couple outside would rather sit inside, how lucky! We had a lovely dinner, your wine is quite pricey! We like coming downtown, so we will be back.

"The food is creative and well prepared. It is a special touch for the owner/chef to be milling about chit chatting! The wine by the glass list has the bases covered...barely. The full wine list wasn't an option this visit so no opinion there. The place is a little crowded if at a table rather than booth. The couple behind our table was fighting - which considering the noise level of the restaurant speaks to the proximity.
The service was friendly, helpful and prompt. They were aware that we had a theater time to meet and did a brilliant job moving us along without us feeling rushed. We were offered dessert and served coffees with plenty of time to enjoy. Our party of five was very pleased with the meal. We will definitely return"

"Amazing atmosphere, to die for food (I had the gnocchi with a glass of alberino), and the waitress was incredibly nice. She asked us (we didn't bring it up) when our showtime at the theater was, which was really helpful. She then made recommendations based on the time we had left! "This was a perfect fun spot with colorful, interesting and delicious food. t was great to share the dishes as you wanted to try everything on the menu. The design was modern, hip and interesting. I took my son of 21 and his room mates and they were ecstatic ! The service was excellent !"

"We are from Canada. We needed a restaurant close to the theatre. We found the restaurant online and from the reviews we decided to give it a try. We were amazed at everything. We recommend the pork, The sea food bowl and the duck. We even went for a desert which we could not finish. We had our daughter visiting and she said it was one of the best meals she has ever had while travelling. We will definately be suggesting the restaurant to anyone who visits in the future. We hope to be wintering every year for a long time."

"We started with the calamari which was original and very good. For main courses, we tried the pulled pork special and short ribs which were good. Service was fine but our server lacked enthusiasm and was somewhat in attentive. Ambiance was fine with a casual atmosphere but nothing special. We were there on a Tuesday night so noise problem mentioned by others was not an issue. Overall you will get a good meal here but again, nothing that would necessarily bring you back again. Based on Janos Wilder's reputation, we hoped for something more creative."

"Food was good. Short ribs very tasty, but could have used more sauce. Would have liked more entree choices. Wine list is pricey. Having said that, we selected the least expensive wine, and it was fabulous. Restaurant is very loud, and servers seemed frenzied. It was difficult to carry on a conversation. Our server was delightful and helpful."

"We dined on a Saturday night before a concert. The restaurant was packed, and apparently many other diners were headed to evening events. The noise level was deafening, and we were seated at the last table in front of the door, which of course opened and closed continuously. The restaurant did have a radiant heater in front of the door, since it was a cold night, and that helped mitigate the cold blasts from the door. Our server asked if we had to be out by a certain time, and then did a great job of managing our drinks and dinner to make sure we had plenty of time. The food was excellent. The wine list was small but eclectic."
