"The atmosphere was soothing on a Tuesday night. The waiter was attentive. The food a d drink choices were creative. The food looked great on the plate, but each time we tried an appetizer or dish, the flavor fell flat. Tasteless lobster empanadas, dry salmon, soggy tempura, tangy lo mein. We had dessert elsewhere. The menu looked like it had a lot of potential, but nothing was outstanding when it came to flavor."

"We had a very nice evening even with a few glitches. We were brought to a VERY small table in a dark corner of a side room. YUK! We saw seats at the bar and asked to sit there instead. The hostess was very accommodating and checked us in at Open Table and showed us to the bar. We were pleasantly surprised to find it was still Happy Hour and liked the drinks/food selections. We ordered and very quickly were served ... only it was the couples next to us food! They ordered practically the same dishes and since we didn't know what to expect we didn't know it wasn't ours. This made us very uncomfortable as we had already started eating before this was discovered. The bartenders and staff seemed very detached from the situation and customers."

"We had a very nice dinner and I would recommend it to other people. The noise level option just
above moderate though was "energetic", lol, which is code for, kind of loud. :) I felt our table had
to speak with raised voices for the majority of the night. It certainly didn't ruin our experience, but

"We had a lovely light meal. The staff was very accomodating to the VEGAN among us and prepared a delicious vegetable platter for her. The sushi was outstanding.
The first table they gave us was upstairs abutting the stairwell (dangerous) It was also very cold (temperature wise) They moved us downstairs and it was fine."

"Metropolitan Café is one of my favorites. The food is consistent and the experience is very nice. The ambiance makes this restaurant one of the nicest in Freehold. We've had many quiet dinners here. We've also rented the restaurant out for special occasions a number of times. The staff does a really nice job. Downstairs gets crowded and has a really nice bar scene. The upstairs is quiet - a great combination for everyone."

"Burgers were dry with no taste & the Asian chicken salad was good, except the chicken also had no taste & was tough. The waiter did the right thing. Place was empty & instead of seating us in a nice booth, the hostess put us in a little table in the corner. It's nice if the owner sitting with another table for 1/2 hr. would of said How's your meal?. It's a nice place for drinks & appetizers."

"Went on Easter Sunday for our anniversary and it wasn't very crowded since it was a holiday, so I can't really speak to the noise level or bar scene. We were greeted by a nice young woman who chatted with us a bit. Our waiter was polite and knowledgable about the menu. App was the mozzarella and tomato which were good, but not amazing, as the description would lead one to believe. For entrees, "spanish style" garlic shrimp with a rice with chorizo in it. Pretty good. Also, Scallop pinwheels stuffed with crab over spinach with a nice rice. It was delicious, but the spinach was a bit too oily, and although delicious, a little too heavy. No dessert but menu was tempting. Nice atmosphere. Skylights, open kitchen, nice lighting. Recommend."

"Haven't been to The Metropolitan Cafe in quite a while and had some cousins coming in from out of town so we decided to meet them at The Metropolitan Cafe. The waiter was very good and didn't rush us to order and brought out our food in a timely manner. The food was also excellent and everyone in our party enjoyed our dishes. "Don't know exactly the reason but service was not as attentive as I hoped (considering it was a Monday & we were a party of 7). The kitchen forgot one of the meals.1/2 price bottle wine was still pricey, and the 2nd bottle was slow to arrive. Creme brulee seemed like a good idea, but top was not warm & although crisp it was bitter. Wasn't authentic.

"Dined with 6 adults. We were put in a booth that was suited for 4 adults. This restaurant will only seat you at a table if you are ordering full dinners. We spent just as much on appeitzers, salads, sushi & drinks but they made us feel uncomfortable about it. Waiter was slow to come back for additional round of drinks and to give us the check.
They may want to consider allowing people to sit at tables after 9pm to enjoy their lighter menu items and some cocktails. I think they are missing out on some business.
We live in Freehold and enjoy the food @ atmosphere. The attitude of some of the staff needs improvement."

"Went Valentines night. While waiting for our husbands my friend and i sat at the bar and had martinis.They were ice cold- and perfect. Immediately upon our husbands' arrival we were escorted to our table. On a very busy night our server was attentive but not overly so. We had the shrimp and calamari appetizer and it was out of this world. The fish was cooked to perfection and the sauce had just the right amount of spiciness. The two gentlemen had steaks which were also cooked perfectly, I had a tilapia dish. The fish was cooked perfectly, not too dry and the seasonings were delicious. My friend had a pasta dish which she also enjoyed, the shrimp plentiful and not overcooked. Very enjoyable experience."

"We were celebrating our anniversary and decided to return to Metro since it was where we had our first date. At the recommendation of our server, we ordered the duck. Although it said crispy duck on the menu, there was nothing crispy or tasty about the duck. Very disappointing. We also ordered the Asian chicken salad, which seemed a bit bland at first taste. Turns out, the almonds were never added. As the meal goes, it was not a great experience. To have two meals that were not prepared properly is unacceptable. Fortunately, we decided last minute to order the sweet pecan dessert... and it was fabulous."

"5:30 reservation, only one other table seated and still put my family next to noisy bar. Apps 1 for 2, general's wraps very tasty, roasted veg tower undercooked, eggplant sliced entirely too thick. Entrees lacking, asian "crispy" duck not crispy at all and arrived looking like it sat under heat lamp for 15mins. Roasted chicken a tad dry accompanied by under seasoned root veg. Desserts were fantastic, espresso cake and wild berry short cake. Also server seemed like she'd rather be somewhere else. Very disappointed considering excellent past experiences, especially since I bragged about it to girlfriend and daughter. Not giving up though."
