Huber's Restaurant
Established in 1879, Huber's is Portland's Oldest Restaurant. It was originally called the "Bureau Saloon". Mr. Huber was involved from the beginning as a bartender, bought out the original owner then changed the name to Huber's.
In the old days if you bought a drink you got a free turkey sandwich. This is how the turkey tradition started. Today Huber's cooks 150 lbs of turkey a day. It's Thanksgiving everyday at Huber's serving a traditional turkey dinner every day. We also serve Certified Angus Beef and fresh seafood. Huber's is also known for its famous Spanish Coffee. The drink is made table-side with great fanfare. It's is a lot of fun and very tasty. Come in and enjoy Old Portland at its best.

"Although there are other items on the menu, its the turkey that you go for. The back room has a lot of period details and is good for groups. However, because of the hard surfaces, the noise level is high. If you want to chat, stick with the front room."

"Huber's is across from one of the "Cart Pods," so we try to sit inside, by the front window to enjoy the street scene, but still be sheltered from the hustle and bustle. We can carry on a quiet conversation.
Huber's is famous for their Irish Coffee fashioned at your table. It's a great show.
Cathy and I are not much for huge entrees; we usually have appetizers, and split a salad, so I can't speak knowledgeably about the meat of the menu.
We live in Washougal, Washington and get to downtown Portland only once or twice a month, and usually go for one of the great restaurants, (Alexis's, Andina, Al Amir, Jakes, Kojii's, ...)
We do make it to Huber's a several times a year, and out of all the choices available, that's high praise."

"The food was good but there was no real ambiance or atmosphere to the restaurant. The waiters and waitresses were polite but not particularly friendly, happy, or enthusiastic and service was pretty slow. Overall, it was just a so-so experience."

"This is not a poser restaurant, it's genuine. It's historic ambiance is real. We enjoyed the place, and are planning to bring friends next time. By the way... happy hour is a bargain, large portions of hors d'oeuvres, low prices, and great drinks.
We had the turkey dinner with fresh veggies, stuffing, and mashed potatoes, gravy, and pumpkin pie. We started the meal with mixed drinks and ended it with Spanish coffee (made at the table with great fanfare). Yummy!
Try it out. You'll be pleasantly surprised."

"I reserved a table on line. Didn't know I needed to request a booth in order to get one. We were dissappointed that we were at a table. The food was very good. The service was the best in town. "I was really disappointed with the service, it was extremely loud in the restaurant, our waiter never checked in on our table, the checks were wrong multiple times, we waited proabbly close to 40 minutes for the server to get our checks correct, my food order was messed up twice and so I didnt even get to enjoy my meal while everyone else at my table was eating...dont get me wrong, the food was good, but just the overall experience with the waiter and lack of paying attention kind of ruined the experience for me and my party."

"Read the great reviews of Huber's and were sadly disappointed. The service and ambience were decent. The food was disappointing. The fish dish was fishy, the stroganoff (which is a specialty) was tough and boring. I recommend Veritable Quandary, as an excellent dining choice for dinner and breakfast."

"The Spanish Coffee itself is fabulous and the ritual associated with its making is momentus. The Spanish Coffee is reason enough to go to Huber's. The service is great and the ambiance in the Old Bar is wonderful. It does get loud there so don't plan on any intimate conversations, it's all you can do to shout over the crowd when it really gets going. The food is ok with the exception of the breads, those are simply too sweet and cakelike. I had the Turkey Pot Pie and the cornbread cap was sticky sweet although the rest was quite good once you got through the icky sweetness. I'd suggest pulling the top off and just eat the rest. My husband had the salmon and it was wonderful. The portion sizes are intelligent."

"This place is really great! The building is OLD and mostly original. If you're into historic places, check it out. Dinner was great. The service was friendly and the bartenders put on quite a show without being snooty. We loved it! We were here for dinner but heard their breakfast is also great."

"I had heard really good things about the food at Huber's so I decided to plan a group dinner for 15 people here. When we got to the restaurant, we were seated right away and the restaurant didn't seem that busy. It took 30 minutes to get drinks, and an hour and a half to get food. We weren't impressed with the service at all. Once we received our food it was delicious, but the process to get there took longer than necessary. I might come back in a small group setting, but not in a large group again."
