"I love the Sunday brunch menu & the upscale but relaxed feel. Food presentation was exquisite. Very fresh grapefruit/fennel salad, perfectly-cooked pork loin and shrimp & grits to rival Humble Pie or Crook's Corner. Sadly, the cheddar chicken biscuit w/sausage gravy was dry & overcooked. Disappointing for what should be a deliciously unhealthy treat. Overall the food & brunch cocktails would lead me to be a repeat customer. However, the service, while friendly & competent, was so ridiculously slow, from start to finish (e.g., it was 25 minutes from being seated before drinks arrived) that I am wary of returning for dinner or any other time that I want to have a meal in less than two hours. Hopefully this was a one-time staffing issue."

"Food was good, but service was very slow. Our entrees were served about 1 hr after we were seated at a table. It was not busy when we arrived. We noticed the slow service continued throughout the time we were there for others that arrived after us. Our group of 6 tried several different entrees and all were good. The old warehouse setting is nice. Parking is convenient. Give this place a try if you have a lot of time to spend with others."

"The food at 604 at West village was good, but the whole experience was very poor. It took over 20 minutes before our server came to greet us. It took him another 15 minutes to send out the bread and oil. It was a poor experience overall and I would not recommend dinging at 604."

"Hello, We dined at 604 West on Mother's Day this year (5/12/2013). Our servers were wonderful and the food delicious. However, the food took exceptionally long to come out of the kitchen. It was crazy long. Lucky for us it was a lovely day outside and dining in the courtyard made up for it a bit. Outside dining here is really nice."

"My wife and I dined here last Saturday. The restaurant was about 3/4 full. They have a nice outdoor dining area that doesn't look out over a parking lot. Kelly was a great server -- his descriptions of the specials demonstrated a true passion for the food he served. We shared a risoto appetizer (plenty for 2) that was perfectly prepared. Our entrees were the scallops and the pork loin. Both were excellent! We were going to a show so there wasnt time for dessert but that will be on the list for our next visit -- which will be for Mother's Day brunch. I would definitely recommend 604 at West Village!"

"I was so excited to try the new brunch menu here and was not disappointed! The weather was gorgeous so I sat on the patio. Definitely some of the best patio seating around. Its not right next to the street and there are big umbrellas to give you just enough shade.
I started off with a Bloody Mary. There are a number of different varieties so I chose an extra spicy one. It was perfect and clearly made from scratch. For our meals, I had the eggs benedict.....hollandaise goodness. My husband had an amazing chicken and biscuits dish smothered with cheese, bacon, and sausage gravy.
The highlight though was the service. Nicole was attentive and friendly. Kept our drinks full (a challenging venture) and was the icing on our brunch cake."

"Early reservation, definitely not crowded when we arrived or when we left. Seemed odd there was no availability on Open Table for a half hour later reservation. The food was good, but we felt the prices were very high for what was served. Limited menu selection. Not sure what the situation was but the service was notably slow - entrees came out quick but everything seemed to go down hill from there. The desert seemed to take forever to get, and another long wait to get and process our check. After the first 30 minutes or so, the chairs became very uncomfortable making the wait seem even longer."

"I found the food at 604 to be good. I had the red snapper with broccolini and "red bliss potato salad." It was cooked well but honestly was more like a well cooked home meal than anything else. There was no sauce and no particular seasoning added to the dish. The "red bliss potato salad" was nothing more than cold red bliss potatoes. My husband had the spaghetti and wedge salad which he enjoyed. I would come again, but it doesn't top my list of favorite restaurants."

"I've been to 604 thrice. This time was a Saturday night. The waiter was over solicitous and spoke very quietly. My wife and I had to confer to sort out the specials. The primi were supposed to be appetizer sized (small, for one). Instead, the calamari formed a small mountain, somewhat greasy, under-salted (and we never add salt), and not that appetizing. The prosciutto di parma was okay but not special. For mains, my wife had a plank grilled salmon with cardamon rice and a balsamic reduction sauce. Didn't work. I had crab-stuffed shrimp over linguini. It didn't have a lot of flavor and was way too rich, especially since the crab was covered in a light cheese. The wine list is decent. The atmosphere is great, but I'm not sure we'll be back."

"Hi, we had the Lamb Ragout and the snapper. Both of these were very good. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it seemed very fresh, the coating was crispy and not too breaded, and the calamari was tender. The only thing we felt was poor was the aioli. It had the consistency of water ans was almost tasteless. A simple marinara would have been much better. By the way, I tried to leave this as a private note to the restaurant but there was not enough space."

"I have been going to this restaurant for a long time now and usually bring a group of friends. This time, my experience was not up to the standard I have come to expect. I do not like the new chef's food as much. The sauces seem too rich and creamy for my taste. There was also some confusion because the menu on the website did not exactly match the restaurant menu and there were a number of items we tried to order that they did not have even though they were on the menu, such as the lemon cookies for dessert.
One last issue -- we try to buy Living Social coupons when we see them, since we like this restaurant and it helps defray the cost for us. We had a number of problems using our coupons."

"Our first time trying this restaurant, what a great find! The patio looks amazing, though the weather wasn't quite right for outdoor dining on this night. We started with the tuna tartare and loved it! Next we had two small pastas (amazing, housemade pasta!), both were delicious. For entrees we had the special, stuffed flounder, and the lamb shank. Both were hearty dishes, but just fancy enough to compliment the fine dining atmosphere. I had a cocktail - mature and well made. The wine list was mostly Italian, but our waiter was able to recommend some glass pours that were just what we were looking for. The service was friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. We will surely return soon!"

"Had a ladies night, went to have a light dinner before a Hall & Oates concert. Food was great but waiter was snooty and uninterested in anything to do with our party. Could have been a great start to our whole night but instead we just wanted to get out of there ASAP. Our food came before our drinks. Very disappointing!"

"This is a good restaurant. Six of us went out and each enjoyed the meal. It was a little noisy for hearing the conversation around the table. It looks as though eating outdoors would be fabulous, but it was a little too cool for that when we went.
We plan to go back...definitely a keeper!"

"This was our first trip and it was tough to find on a cold, wet Saturday night and had to park "on the other side of the tracks". Once inside, the service & food made us forget about the weather. We started with the mussels...outstanding! The cioppino was excellent. My wife had the fish special. Good flavor but a little overcooked. When the waitress asked about our meal, we were honest and said everything tasted great but the fish was slightly overcooked. The chief immediately comped her entree. That is SERVICE!The searving size is huge. Complex but well balanced flavors. Great wine list and very knowledgeable waitress. We will be regulars."

"This was my second experience at 604, and I was just as pleased as I was the first time. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Plus, he really know what dishes to recommend. Overall, the food was wonderful. The only hiccup was that the potatoes that accompanied my father-in-law's red snapper came out cold. However, he quickly received a new order that were prepared properly. 604's wine list is varied, and their desserts are top notch. I highly recommend this restaurant for date nights, other special occasion, and for treating out-of-town guests. Situated in the heart of West Village, it really exemplifies what is so wonderful about Durham's burgeoning foodie scene."

"For all of the hype and gorgeous ambiance, I was shockingly disappointed. The menu was very limited, for starts. The location of our seating was literally right next to a pizza delivery door, so we froze the entire dining "experience". The portions aren't nearly as filling as the prices! The service and the wait in between courses was worst than waiting for a roller coaster in the busiest theme parks. Worst $100+ investment ever!"

"Overall is was a good setting and the wait staff was incredible. The flatbread and roasted garlic appetizers were great. The Risotto, gnocchi were ehhhhhh, not worth the price tag. So this was my overall impression, some good food mixed in there but not nearly worth the value that you pay for."

"604 West Village (formally Tosca for you Durhamites) is a wonderful place to start a romantic evening. I'd be as comfortable there in a white dinner jacket as I would in jeans dressed up with a collared shirt. The food is consistently good.
My wife and I usually go there on special occasions. I like the brick, glass and low lighting. It gives the place a cozy feel but 604 could accommodate a large party if desired."

"My appetizer was not as I expected...the figs were small, hard and tasted old, the prosciutto while tasting OK was sliced too thickly, the arugula part was fine. My main course was good but not hot enough. My friends loved what they had. The menu is nice and I will try it again. Did not look at the wine list this time."
