"Dining at Convivium Osteria was a delight. Seated on the lower level in the wine cellar was a treat. The menu was sophisticated and well prepared from the appetizers to the main course. The selection of wine was impressive and fairly priced. Our friends who are sort of food critics loved the dining experience. This made me happy that I met and exceeded their expectations. "The website showed a quaint, beautiful and rustic restaurant boasting great wine and good food. The real thing could not have been more opposite. The ambiance was cold and a bit clinical, the waiter badgered us and the menu options were terrible. my mom loves wine, and neither of us are picky eaters...we couldn't find a single thing that appealed to either of us. I watched a girl at the table next to us choking down her food, and that's when we decided to get out without finishing our meals. terrible experience. don't be fooled by the website! or even some of the reviews."

"Loved this restaurant. Came here with family for birthday party. We ordered about 4-5 appetizers and share amongst 6 people. Everything tasted awesome. The main dishes were incredible. Desserts were some of the best i've ever had. no one left disappointed. Overall, the service, presentation and ambiance were very pleasing.

"Excellent food in a slightly subdued setting. Feels like a perfect place to let mom and dad take you to dinner when they are visiting if Mom and Dad hate noisy restaurants and can afford it. I went with two girlfriends on a Saturday night and it felt a little dull. The food was excellent --we tried three incredible pastas--and the service was respectful and appropriate. But you don't feel like you are in the thick of things like you do at Al di La (also on 5th Avenue in Brooklyn, with some menu overlap). On the plus side, it is not as crazy as Al di La can be with its long waits--Convivum takes reservations."

"We celebrated my mother's birthday there and it was a really nice evening. The space is lovely and reminiscent of traditional osterias in Europe, but reading the menu in candlelight has proved quite difficult for the older folks in our group. That said, we had a great experience with really tasty food. While some dishes were better than others, the highlights for us were the polenta, wild mushrooms and tallegio, quail with figs in a wine reduction, and clams in a chorizo and garlic broth. The rack of lamb was a beautiful piece of meat, while the whole sea bass was cooked perfectly. The service was friendly and the wine recommendation was fantastic. The big surprise was that the restaurant only takes AMEX, so paying was a bit of a hassle."

"This is an amazing place. Tiny front dining area and bar with another space out back on the porch. This is called an Italian restaurant, but in reality it is Italian with a Spanish and Portuguese influence. The Snapper was the best I have EVER eaten. Every other dish we had was fantastic. Waiter was attentive, yet not overdone and the entire experience was one that we look forward to again.
The name intimates "convivial" or group... while this would be great for up to 6 or so people, it was also outstandingly romantic for two."

"Wonderful food, gracious service and a warm, inviting atmosphere. What more can you ask of a restaurant? Their dedication to naturally raised and local products shows in the quality of the food. More than reasonably priced for the quality. Though the shared large tables may not be conducive to a romantic interlude, the space is 'romantic' in decor and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and would be appropriate for many special occasions. This is one of our favorite places for a special meal."

"Convivium is literally what is called Neighborhood Gem. This time we ordered polenta with mushrooms and chicken liver wrapped in pancetta for appetizers and then steak for two. Everything was great and (as a brooklinyte I hate to admit this) on the quality level of best Manhattan restaurants. Service was perfect. Waiting time almost none. It was slightly noisy due to a relatively small dining area, Convivium located on the first floor of a standard brownstone. Wine list is not very long but rather sophisticated. We had Rioja Grand Riserva 1998 - amazing."

"Good food. Good fun. The place is loud and cozy and busy in the extreme. I'd rate the service as impersonal at best. To be polite, I'd say the pace of dining was brisk. Less polite: I'd call it hurried although we did linger over dessert. The wine selection was very good and fairly priced. We all raved about our choices; so I'd say the evening was a success."

"This is a superb restaurant. The service was excellent and the food delicious. when we noted that one of the pasta dishes was a bit off, the chef sent out a selection of 4 desserts to make up for it. Nice touch. But even better was the phone call we received about 30 minutes after leaving noting that we had overpaid by $80. Returning the next day to retrieve our overpayment, we were happy to leave $20 for the waiter who had taken care of us and this."

"We didn't realize this restaurant only accepted cash or American Express, which to us is a major downfall. As for alcohol they only serve wine and one brand of beer. Our octopus appetizer was a little burnt and the entrees were just ok. Dessert was delicious; I had the flourless chocolate cake and my husband enjoyed the blueberry tart. If we were in the neighborhood and just wanted dessert we would definitely be back, but it's not likely we will visit this restaurant again. The waiter wasn't very friendly either."

"This past Saturday, I took my husband out on a dinner date to Convivium Osteria, a beautifully cozy romantic restaurant in the Park Slope. The staff was excellent and completely knowledgeable of the menu. I was amazed by the very resourceful spacial lay-out of the tri-level space.
The food was great, not usually an olive fan but I must say, those were some of the best olives I've ever had, oh and the crusty bread. The menu was also very compatible to my pescetarian husband's diet.
Five stars for Convivium Osteria."

"Don't miss the quail in fig reduction sauce and the 48-ounce ribeye, which is flavorful, tender, and juicy -- perfection. Our accompanying potatoes were dry, unseasoned, and not well infused with rosemary. The second accompaniment of watercress salad was refreshing but too small for two. Skip the strozzapreti -- disappointing. The Kopke Reserva 2009 was a very good red, and the bread from NY Brooklyn Bread divinely Old World. A lovely dining experience!"

"Even though I have reserved a table for a certain time and I was at the restaurant on time, I had to wait 30+ minutes until seated. I would leave after 5 minutes waiting, but my girlfriend wanted to try this place out, so I had to stick with it. It shall be handled more professionally. The waiter was in a rush and he pulled menu from my hands even before I finished the order. The person who brought dishes almost threw them on the table. I understand that it was busy, but for the amount of money you pay in this place, you would like to be treated with respect."
