From the team behind The Stanton Social comes Beauty & Essex, a grand 10,000 square foot restaurant, bar, & lounge in the heart of the lower east side.
The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.
The cuisine, much like at the Stanton Social, is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.
"took a friend of mine there for brunch on saturday the 18th and we had a wonderful time. drank mimosas and ate the following: eggs benedict, watermelon/avocado/mint salad, mac & cheese, huevos rancheros, and petite cupcakes. bill came to about $180, so it's not cheap, but it was nice for a special occasion and we didn't feel overly stuffed at the end. although I wanted a nap after the mimosas! I'd like to go back at night for drinks, but I heard it gets a bit pretentious and trendy. I would like to try out the champagne in the ladie's lounge though!"

"This place made an evenig with some of my closest and long time friends the most memorable evening. The setting, the food enriched our conversation and made for an amazing night. The service was impeccable and the food was simply GREAT !
It is now my new favorite spot. I fear telling too many people about this gem because I may never get another reservation again. An excellent place and highly recommend it."

"First visit Feb. 2012, - celebrating large work accomplishment. 18 people & we just tore it up from the floor up! Loved It! Most recent visit Sat May 18th 2013. Party of 5. A little more conservative but still ready to play! Adonis, no kidding his real name was our server and very professional, knew his stuff, attentive, funny and very personable. Some members of our party had a few allergy concerns and we were accommodated as needed and nicely done. Food was Extraordinary. Lobster Tacos, great! Salmon, pasta, Filet slice ordered Medium and came out Medium well was a little bummer but flavor won out the over cooking. Beauty and Essex lived up to my expectations as I was the recommending this place for our little party!"

"Friends of mine from So. Cal. had been there the week before and it was upon their recommendation that I went with my friends. Being a designer I was impressed with the design. The light fixtures and unusual arrangements were clever. The service was superb...very attentive. I am vegetarian and there was quite a few things to choose from and I wasn't disappointed. Different tastes with a twist. Great wines by the glass. Very hip place."

"I've been to Beauty & Essex several times, but my most recent visit was incredibly disappointing.
I asked for the tuna tacos without cilantro and they came with cilantro. No big deal. I'm allergic to cilantro, so I asked our server to remake it. However, our waitress STACEY had the audacity to call me a liar & tried to charge me for an extra one instead of correcting her mistake. She literally argued with the entire table, insisting that it was my mistake not hers. Bottom line, her attitude was absolutely unacceptable.
I don't know about you, but when I'm ordering 10+ courses, multiple bottles of wine & cocktails I'd prefer to be treated with a little more respect. With all the amazing food in this city, I doubt I'll be back anytime soon."

"Had a really fun night here. I had 4 visitors from Australia and wanted to take them somewhere fun and impress them with a unique New York dining experience- but without the condescending or initmidating atmosphere and a huge bill at the end.
Beauty and Essex was perfect. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful, answered all our questions and made great recommendations, and adjusted the serving sizes of our share plates. Cocktails were really nice too."

"The decoration and setting is really amazing, however, once you pass that, it's just another one of these big restaurants, a meatpacking factory kind of. All NY restaurants are loud but this is above anything I've been to. The music is way to loud to have dinner with friends. I thought I was going to a fasion, intimate LES restaurant... On the positive side, the food was very good and the staff was nice. 6 girls, 2 bottle of wine, about $56/pers + tip."

"The food we ordered is a mix of tapas that are smaller than a Kit Kat bar and what comes inside is unknown despite the description. Impossible to know what you are actually eating. Service is mediocre too and the people cheesy and ugly. This place is going downhill."

"Recently went to B&E to celebrate a birthday. We were a party of 6 and the ONLY draw back was having to wait an hour for our table - even with a reservation. Great food, Great service, and a very energetic, fun atmosphere made it well worth the wait!"

"Lovely room, very attentive service, good explanation of the dishes. Sharing (amongst 3) not so good when two like seafood, one likes deep fried, one wants healthy choices - and it's made clear that its "share or nothing". Difficult. Main problem was that the food was a little bland, the lobster roll was firstly forgotten and then delivered cold, the scallops were meh. That's three out of six! So, more hype than hooray."

"First time there with my wife (just 2 of us). We are foodies so our expectations were high. The food & desserts were great & our server was knowledgeable & attentive. The bus service was attentive too yet discrete. We sat at 2-top near kitchen entry which was distracting - too much staff traffic and we could feel the floor/table vibrate because of the staff traffic. The noise level is extremely loud and the lighting was dark - could not read menu -we had to hold it near candle. We'd still return again for special occasion."

"LOVED IT. Perfect place to bring a crew of UHBs. The crowd was not 100% YRP, but what venue can achieve such a high goal. Take the back staircase if you are a celebrity. The front stair was far too populated."

"Too much attitude going on at this place. We had an 8pm reservation and weren't seated until 8.42pm. I went back to the check in 3 times - no apology, no politeness, just a feeling of "you should be lucky we're even considering seating you, go back to the bar and wait until we call you". Too many great restaurants in NYC to have such an attitude."

"The food is good but overly priced. It is worth going once but before you go, note that it is very very loud. The music is loud and so you have to almost shout to hear your friends. Everyone around is shouting so the noise level goes up even more. The restaurant has a club vibe and if you are in your 20s, you might like it. We will not be going back."

"What an amazing evening! From the moment we walked into the funky entrance showcasing retro toys to a box of donuts at the end of the evening...we couldn't have been happier. Our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and smiled the entire time. Food was top notch! We loved the chicken meatballs, watermelon and avocado salad, eggplant pizzette and black bottom butterscotch pot de creme. Oh and did I mention the box of donuts? Can't wait to return on our next trip to NYC!"

"Very nice, smart casual restaurant. When you walk in it seems like a store that sells miscellaneous objects and then you walk through the main door and it's a huge, dimly lit, fancy space. It was quite a surprise. Food was amazing as well."
