"After being disappointed by restaurants in town that were overpriced for what seemed like only fair food, we decided to venture 7 miles out to try the Goldmoor. Driving through the country to get there I wasn't sure what to expect and when I saw the place it was like "Oh Wow!" The setting on the Mississippi River is just overwhelmingly beautiful and the restaurant allows you to take in all of the view. With everything being so beautiful I figured the price would be over the top too but it was less than we spent in town and the food was just as attractive as it was delicious! I just wish we had found this place sooner because we were going home the next day. We'll definitely return when we visit Galena again!"

"We came to the bar 30 minutes before our reservation to have a drink. There were 2 other couples there waiting as well. We had to beg for over 20 minutes to get served and then the waitress made other drinks with ours and let them sit on the bar and water down. The host and the wait staff all seemed irritable and confused. They were definitely very mismanaged!! The food on the other hand topped the list of the best I have ever had. The kitchen staff definitely had their ducks in a row!! So overall the poor service turned out ok when we tasted our food."

"My husband surprised me with dinner at the Goldmoor. What a special place this is... the food was wonderful and sevice was fantastic. Busy place but we were in no rush! We were one of the last dinner reservations, but loved relaxing and talking and taking our time with dinner. Thank you for making our anniversary a special evening."

"The positives: Service was exceptional. The views were great. Decent wine list and knowledgable staff. Staff was welcoming and hospitable. Crystal wine glasses, etc. A romantic night out. Clean - staff seemed to take pride in their service. Seasonal menu -somewhat limited but there's something for everyone. The shrimp avocado appetizer was great.
The negatives: the beef stroganoff, while cooked perfectly (which is tough to do) was tough. When I order filet in a restaurant of this caliber I expect to be able to almost cut it with a butter knife. Not true in this case. The filet was tough - clearly not high quality. The ribeye - again - tough and in this case over cooked.
That being said, presentation was great."

"My husband and I had dinner here recently. Upsides: the dining room view, overlooking the Mississippi, with trains rolling by; very pleasant, particularly as the sun was setting. My husband was not feeling 100% on the night we ate here, so that took away quite a bit from the overall enjoyment of the evening. The waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. Additionally, the host who greeted us was nice. The food was a 4 out of 5. I enjoyed my soup and salad, but I thought the Beef Wellington should have been served without large mounds of mashed potatoes. My husband enjoyed his trout; nicely cooked. Unfortunately, a fidgety child eating with his parents negatively impacted our evening. We'd be 70+/30- about returning."

"I took my husband to dinner for celebrate his birthday. I wanted a special location to celebrating and The Goldmoor did not disappoint us. The front view is amazing, and we asked to sit next to the window so we enjoyed the most beautiful sunset with the Mississippi River view. The food and the staff are outstanding. A gem must to see!"

"An outstanding experience in every way. Comparable to nationally known restaurants in which we have dined. This restaurant is a true gem and worth a special trip of many miles. Food, atmosphere, and service all of the highest level. There was nothing in our dining experience which rated less than five stars. In 45 years of dining in fine restaurants I have never been this generous with a review."

"Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and asked about how we came to hear about the restaurant and inn. We were then shown out private dining room (not requested) and introduced to our waitress. They started to tell us stories of the sunsets, events, and other buildings on the property. After seeing we were interested, the manager and owner gave us a private tour of the unoccupied rooms, kitchen, and chef's table. They told us stories of their process in building the place and you could feel all the care that went into it. After we came back to our table, we were given our menus and placed our orders. The pace of the food serving was perfect. It wasn't rushed and we were given plenty of time before clearing. The food was also phenomenal."

"The atmosphere seemed intimate and romantic. With booths close to windows that faced scenic panoramas, and decor and building architecture reminescent of Tudor England, the dining experience pleasantly far exceeded the ordinary. Prices were very reasonable and the food was extremely good, every course and in every respect. The staff were very warm, friendly, and accomodating without being imposing. I am eager for an opportunity to return."

"The evening we went to the Goldmoor, there was maybe 3 tables with two or more patrons. We arrived at 5:35 and left at 7:30. Food delivery was very slow, at no fault of our waitress. We have had better food elsewhere. At this point I can honestly say we will never be back."

food and service were both impeccable, and when my wife had a question about her dish, the waitress invited us back to meet the chef
