The elegant River Room opened its doors to guests in 1947 and has remained a dining tradition servicing Saint Paul, its neighbors and visitors for five decades. Our store remodel in 2002 presents a traditional European decor crowned with four beautiful Waterford crystal chandeliers. Today, the River Room continues its tradition of offering fine food and impeccable service in a charming atmosphere.

"I selected using Open Table to ensure that I had an opportunity to get a reservation at the historic River Room before they closed. This gave me the freedom to select from several dates that fit my schedule and what was avaialble. The process was simple and rewarding. I was not disappointed. Service and food were great and I had a no-fuss dining experience. Thanks Open Table for making it a great last impression."

"Everything was good, except I had a reservation when I gave the name the person taking names at the entrance said oh it will be just a minute and then she seated about 5 other people ahead of us. I went back up to the person to check why we hadn't been called, and she quickly told the Hostess to take us to table 21 which was about the worst table in the place/where servers are exiting and entering to get water, and we were not pleased with that. She must've crossed us off the list, and then when she saw me realized what happened, never apologized just gave us an awful table. The one saving grace was we had the "the best server" She was just perfect, it made up for the first part. The server was attentive, quick but much more than that."

"I had lunch with a friend and we hit the River Room because we knew it would be closing soon with the departure of Macy's from downtown St. Paul. A St. Paul icon for I don't know how many years - my mom was once a waitress there in the early 60's. As expected the place was packed - fortunately, I had a reservation. It was about 10 minute, maybe more, before our waiter even noticed we were there. My friend and I both ordered exactly the same meal and wine. He came back with two champagne glasses and an almost empty bottle of wine - one we didn't order - and told us that was all he had left and they had no clean wine glasses. The pot pies were good, but not outstanding. It's the end of an era, and I'll miss that."

"I have worked in Downtown St Paul for 7 years and have never dined here until now. So sad this place is closing! The food was amazing and the service was wonderful. The big, flaky popovers were a pleasant surprise with my meal. I had the open faced turkey sandwich and really enjoyed it. It was served with the perfect amount of gravy and some cranberry chutney. The kiddie cocktail was a fun lunchtime drink too."
