"Finding good food for Saturday lunch in DC is hard to do. Fortunately Georgia Brown was open and how we were rewarded! The Shrimp and Grits were the best we have ever had! and that says a lot for some one from Louisiana. Others had the crab stuffed shrimp which was delicious, the Perlau which was excellent and the fried meatloaf which was to die for!... Really good food. The service was also really, really excellent. Jose, our waiter, had a wonderful sense of humor which combined with his absolute professionalism made our experience a delight. Next time I'm coming back Sunday Jazz Brunch which is as much fun as it is delicious!."

"Georgia Brown's is typically very good - smooth service, jazz when you want it but quiet other nights, and great food. However, they really let us down this time. We waited 45 minutes for our reservation, and were told within 10 minutes of arriving that our table had just been vacated by the previous party so they were just resetting it, but then NOTHING for more than another half hour. That was truly truly frustrating, and it didn't go over very well with our guests from out of town.

The food was good as usual, and our server was actually great, but when you get seated after 830 for a 745 reservation, and at a too small table, it doesn't help much."

"The food was awesome. I was plesantly surprised when they said I could take my entreee home. There is a buffet, the entree and dessert. The buffet alone was more than enough. The live Jazz band was loud but enjoyable and very interactive."

"We celebrated a the graduation of a friend's daughter and it was a lovely festive evening. In addition to the great food and wonderful atmosphere, the restaurant staff kept congratulating the graduate and it made her feel so very special. A great evening for us all!"

"Came to DC for National Conference, and had tried many resturants during our stay but Georgia Brown's by far is our favorite! The food, the ambience and the waitstaff are the best in town! We made reservations for a party of 4 and were promptly seated. Our waiter Vernon made superb suggestions for the cocktails, food entrees and deserts. We were in culinary heaven! I had the deviled shrimp which was fantastic! I strongly recommend this establishment for any occasion where you want to be treated like royalty."

"We arrived late into dc and went straight to dinner. Our waiter was wonderful and made sure when we took our food home that we had warm biscuits and butter as well. He was patient with our kids which made him even better!!!"

"We went on a Wednesday Jazz night and the music was a perfect complement to an incredible southern meal. It was my girlfriend's birthday and it was a nice touch to put a candle on top of an amazing peach cobbler. She had the Amish chicken which practically fell off the bone and I had a bowl of shrimp, grits and andouille sausage that could have fed a party of three. Our waiter's name was Merle and he was friendly and outstanding."

"The drinks, the food, all great. The band? Excellent but WAY TOO LOUD! Dinner on a Wednesday night I did not expect to have to yell to be heard. We had three at the table and one was always left out as you had to turn to face the person you were speaking to. The best part of our night was when the band took a break. It's nice to have music but it should be more in the background."

"Georgia Browns was recommended to us , as a must go , while in DC. We made reservations and even though the restaurant was undergoing renovations had no difficulties with getting in.
Food was served quickly and the shrimp snd grits did not disappoint!
The only thing missing from the menu was "sweet tea"!
Filet and shrimp combo was excellent as was the sweet butter served with the bread basket. Be sure to try the peanut butter pie!"

"This was a good choice for Mother's Day. My husband, two daughters and granddaughter all enjoyed the morning. We arrived at 10:15 for our 10:30 appointment and were timely seated. The lines for the buffet were reasonable, the service was very good as was the food. Though it was a very busy morning, we did not feel at all rushed and were able to thoroughly enjoy a leisurely meal.

In the future, we will request seating in an area with less traffic. It wasn't bad, but our table was next to buffet line. There appeared to be available seating in other areas for a party of our size."

"So the usual Sunday Brunch staff was not in and the service was sub-par . The buffet food was way better than the entree. When our entrees did arrive two of them came with the Lemon Cayenne drizzled across the catfish in a design. Every other time we've dined at GB, our sauce came on the side. I was a little put off my lunch when it came this way. I ended up taking one bite and asking for a box. I ended up throwing mine in the trash when I got home. Meanwhile our daughter's salmon arrived shriveled up and dry. When she asked the server about her salmon, he curtly remarked "This is the lunch serving of salmon." Not so, my husband has had the salmon before. My experience at Georgia Brown's on Mother's Day was a little flat and sub-par."

"Went for Mother's Day dinner. The restaurant is very loud for some reason. The waiter I had was not good, wasn't able to give good information about the food or the dishes, didn't know what alcohol the restaurant had, didn't check on us, didn't give us his name. My mother got the crab cakes; she enjoyed them. My husband and I got the shrimp and grits; okay; not a lot; seemed like something was missing. I ordered a lemon drop martini. It took 3 tries to get it right, and it still wasn't good, wasn't charged for it. I learned that the real problem was the brand-X vodka; didn't have top shelf vodka! Overall, my mother enjoyed herself. My husband and I did not. I will not be returning to Georgia Brown's again. Thanks!"

"Although, the staff (energetic host and knowledgable and inviting waiter) was excellent, the food was a drastic disappointment. Personally, the food lacked flavor that I would expect a restaurant with southern roots to have. I chose this restaurant for an early Mother Day celebration with the hopes that my family could enjoy the nice ambience while dining on southern cuisine.
The silver lining to the evening was the staff, they were excellent. Energetic, attentive and knowledgable! The suggestions made by our waiter, Merle was consistent with our wishes. And his sincere desire to ensure that everyone was pleased with each course was noticeable. The occassion along with his strong customer service skills, enabled me to endure the evening."

"We received a gift card from our daughter at Christmas for a meal at Georgia Brown's. It took us a while to find an excuse to be in the city, but it was definitely worth the wait. We were greeted by name when we arrived, setting the stage for great personal service from the staff. The food was absolutely great. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the salmon. I am a diabetic but it was easy to find food that I could eat. The tastes of the dishes made you anxious for the next bite, but the food was not heavy at all. This was an outstanding dining experience for those who like a New Orleans flavor in a Washington DC environment. Close to the McPherson Square Metro stop and downtown DC. You will definitely not be disappointed!"

"Everytime I visit DC I visit Georgia Browns. We went their on Sunday May 5th. to celebrate my husbands birthday and the food and the jazz group were excellent. Our waiter Marco was just fair, we sat for long periods of time before he checked on us. Plus I wouldn't rate him the most friendliest waiter. Other then that I can truthfully say that Georgia Browns is one of my favorite restaurant"

"I took my family, including 8 and 10 year olds, after a day of sightseeing in DC. Everyone's dinner was delicious (they don't have a lot of options for kids, but they made them a half order of fried chicken with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese which they loved). I had Low Country Shrimp and Grits and had to check myself from licking the bowl along with a delicious Kale salad. They had really great service as well. Highly recommended."

"The food was wonderful but it was a business dinner and thus a total mistake because we couldn't hear each other over the band, even when screaming. I have been to Georgia Brown's many times and the band has never been there before. The music is great, the food is great; I just wish I had known.....I;ll be back again, but not when I need to talk. Or at least I will call and find out about the band. Is there a way for Open Table to alert us when we make a reservation???"

"I do not get southern food very frequently and loved the experience here. The service was excellent. The fried checked dinner with collard greens and mashed potatoes was superb. They did not drown the dish in gravy and you could have asked for it on the side. I had the Charleston Pelau and it was to die for. The portions are huge so come hungry!"

"This was our second visit. Both times, the food and service were great. Everything we ordered was wonderful.
We were at a table in a corner that felt a bit claustrophobic. With patrons and staff squeezing by frequently, the person in the 'hot seat' was getting banged around quite a bit and felt at risk of having a plate hit his head or getting something spilled on him (which almost happened a couple of times).
We moved the table and chairs around a bit but we felt squeezed in, which slightly affected our enjoyment.
Be warned that it is lively in there - lots of decibels - not a quiet, romantic spot.
But there's a great vibe and the food is awesome."

"The quality of the food is inconsistent at best. We had an appetizer and two main dishes. The bacon-wrapped dates were simply amazing and memorable. However, the main dishes is where the quality varies. The chicken was overcooked, but still managed to pack enough flavor in the breading to keep me from sending it back. For over twenty dollars, I would expect it to be properly cooked. The stuffed shrimp was delightful, but the cheesy macaroni was just buttery with very little cheese. Service was very cordial and nice, if you could ever hear them. The noise in the restaurant is borderline unbearable. Having any type of conversation requires a leaning in and shouting -- hardly romantic."

"The older, short, bald headed valet service person was very rude and gruff. I asked him if he could bring my car, he looked at me, frowned, said "no", and walked off!

I asked the younger, taller gentleman. He brought my car around right away, he was nice and professional."

"Went on a Sunday evening, seated promptly for my party of 3. Crab cake appetizer very good. Fried chicken, golden and crispy, beautiful to look at, not so much in the taste department. Call me crazy but I like cheese in my macaroni and cheese these were buttered elbows with light cheese on the side. Collard greens were OK not as tender as I appreciate. Mashed potatoes were Ok, gravy was bland. Dessert salvaged dinner! Peach cobbler was fantastic! Banana pudding fantastic! Know that the Apple dumpling is a whole apple in s puff pastry encasement, not thinly sliced and not tender but literally a whole apple with the seeds and core removed. No sweetened iced tea which I thought was a staple in any Southern themed restaurant."

"I can't say enough about the food at Georgia Brown's - I've never had a bad meal there. The fried chicken, the Creole dishes, lamp chops, seafood, the drinks - it's all amazing. I especially have to recommend their complimentary cornbread and Devils on Horseback (bacon wrapped dates with blue cheese!) to start.

The real downside lies in the service. It isn't that the servers themselves are bad, but there just isn't enough of them. Every single time I'm there, I see a handful of servers trying to serve a full dining room. I wait 10-20 minutes between seeing my server, on this occasion, it was 30 minutes befor eour order was even taken. Pay up and hire more people, GBs!"

"I LOVE this restaurant! The food is to die for! The wait staff is professional and prompt and helpful, the decor is beautiful, the seating comfortable, and the ambiance is perfect largly due to few or no kids. Hope it stays this way."

"As seasoned travelers from Guam to Africa we are tired of the humdrum presentation of a standard restaurant vociferating how wonderful their food is, when in reality the ambiance and food are nothing more than a place to kill hunger. Not so, with Georgia Brown's, not so. Entering past the entry we were greeted by a lovely smile in the form of the hostess and host. Eyes warm and spirits high these two gems accommodated us in a table of our desire, because, "California is in the house" ! What a welcome! We were presented with the most scrumptious appetizers just right for her, the crab cakes, and for him, the oysters. The entrees and desert were outstanding. The only bad part about this restaurant was having to leave."
