"We liked this spot when it was Charlie's Ale House (a couple-few years ago), and were nervous when it changed over... but it was silly to be concerned! It's only gotten better as time has gone on, from the beer and wine list to the oyster bar ("Sip & Slurp" oyster happy hour from 5-7 p.m. on weeknights) to the menu (pork burger is awesome, as is everything else). The owner(s?) moved toward providing a "small plate" experience after the success of their Ombra Italian enoteca next door (serving "chichetti," like Italian tapas) -- which is also amazing -- but don't think for a second you won't leave satisfied... plenty of great food on your table at any given time! And, for beer lovers: I'm fairly certain all servers are Cicerone certified."

"1$ oysters are the best in town. Food is excellent and always quick to come out of the kitchen. Staff is knowledgeable about the daily menu and the ever changing beer selection keeps me coming back. 5 star-A+ legit!!"

"We liked all our brunch items but one person didn't care for the Bloody Mary. The food was pretty good. As usual in these types of places, the cheese tray was skimpy but it was good."

"My experience at Acre was great. The manager and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Food was good and came out fast. We went for brunch on Easter so I was surprised by the quick service.
My only complaint - WAY WAY OVERPRICED. The entrees are not bad. $8-15 on average is what you pay everywhere in Chicago. HOWEVER don't order anything a la cart. For two reasons: 1. FIVE DOLLARS FOR A 1/2 CUP OF ROASTED POTATOES. $5!! A CUP OF COFFEE IS $4.75!!!
Those prices are outrageous and offensive. Get it together, Acre. You serve good food. Y SO EXPENSIVE?"

"While I like the overall American menu, I can't say I'd be rushing back here anytime soon. First, I'll preface by saying that I find the "small plates" concept that so many restaurants have introduced to be one of the great "rip offs" of the restaurant industry. For the price of normal appetizers, instead one gets a two-bite portion. Here even entrees are "small bite" portions. There is no complimentary bread service, and if all even the average diner orders is one small plate and an entree, one will probably leave hungry. I give it a "good" on quality, but a "poor" on value."

"We enjoyed the upscale comfort food that we had at Acre. though we were late for our res (I called ahead as a warning), they gave us a cozy booth and let us linger long after we were done with dessert. Gracious and friendly staff!"

"I think this review list needs a checkbox for Notable Beer List. forget wine, this place gets beer right. The food is great to boot. My husband and I really liked this place and intend to make it more of a regular place for us since we moved away from Bucktown and the bluebird. I may like this place better - food is a little more complex and the beers list makes a little more sense."

"Went for brunch, prices were ok but portions surprisingly small. One person in group had the frittata which was paper thin. Went home to eat after. Waiter must have been filling in for the professional waitstaff as he clearly didn't know what he was doing. Sorry to say a disappointing experience save for the company."

"Went for Brunch with another couple. Loved that we could make a reservation instead of stand with the throngs at M. Henry. Brunch menu is limited but good. I had steak and eggs which was excellent with a nice spicy sauce. My husband had the Chilliquillas delicious! Friends had the frittata and the chicken & waffles which were all good. Want to go back and try their beermosa."

"Acre has a nice vibe and great beer selections, but the food was lacking. My boyfriend and I ordered the mussels and fried chicken livers as starters, but I thought they were pretty bland. For the main course, my boyfriend ordered the beef brisket which had a,decent flavor and wasn't too chewy. I wasn't too hungry and got the pierogi. It was surrounded with way too much sour cream, but the pierogi was good in itself.Overall great beer selection. Mediocre food. But I understand that the menu changes often so your experience may differ from mine."

"We took a friend visiting from out-of-town to Acre for dinner on a Sunday evening. We've been before, so knew what to expect and wanted a place away from the touristy neighborhoods for a great meal and an atmosphere for conversation. Acre, as we knew it would, delivered a great meal and experience. Our friend was impressed with the food and ambiance and the service was outstanding as well. The food was fresh and delicious. Creative, but not overly adventurous dishes. Generous, but not excessive portions. Great options for starters/shared dishes, entrees and desserts. Extensive drink menu with several choices on the wine and beer lists that aren't found at typical establishments. Highly recommended for nicer (but not super-expensive) dining."

"I love this place for brunch. Get the brunch burger! It's divine. I don't know if it gets busy or loud at night, as I've only been here for brunch, but at that time of day, it's busy, but has a laid back, friendly atmosphere. It's in a great area, too, so stay and visit some of the cute little shops located nearby."
