"The food was excellent and the ambiance beautiful!
However, Open Table had Nick's listed as $$ (entrees under $30) so we had my daughter's graduation dinner there. We were shocked to find the cheapest entrée was close to $30 with some exceeding $50 - while the food and ambiance merited the price - it was out of our budget and quite embarrassing.
Spoke to the manager who said that OT's prices might be reflective of their lunch menu, although there was no indication of that on OT.
Kudos to Nick's for providing complimentary desserts for the eight people in our party. Not only is Nick's an excellent restaurant, they are a class act!"

"We had a wonderful time! Food was outstanding. The place was empty so the service was over the top. I would highly recommend. Again - the food was spectacular! Loved it!!"

"There weren't very many diners the last time I ate here. Even so, service was slow and the meat on our pomegranate chicken salads was grossly overlooked. Usually the food is really good. Better luck next time."

"I'm really surprised to see several bad reviews on this place. The only negative was that it was maybe too quiet for a restaurant downtown on a weekend night. The location in Merchandise Mart makes it somewhat hidden. Besides that, we had a great time. We had the crispy wrapped shrimp for an appetizer, it was awesome, similar to the one offered at Little Goat. We all chose one of the specials for our entree. Everything was prepared well and tasted fresh. I also had lobster bisque, it was not my favorite, but it was good. Just more of a heavy/thick consistency than I prefer. Our server was fantastic, I regret not remembering her name. I'm sure Nick's is very popular for those who work in Merchandise Mart during the week!"

"I haven't been to Nick's in years and it was just as I remembered. The lobster bisque was incredible, my grouper was delicious, the service was superb. Great experience."

"I would only slightly recommend this restaurant for lunch. Dinner at this location is not advisable. My girlfriend made a reservation for the two of us to celebrate my birthday on 3/29/2013 at 7:00 p.m. As soon as we walked we felt as though we were transported to a hotel dining area with less than impressive flooring and about as many diners I could count on two hands. We decided to order oysers, shrimp cocktail, and spinach and artichoke dip as well as two glasses of wine.
While the appetizers were good, my glass of wine had left over lipstick from the previous user. I had to ask for a new glass. My girlfriend's Salmon was severly undercooked. We ordered the mini dessert tray and had to return the creme brule as it was runny."

"The restaurant is a little hard to find for out-of-towners. On a Saturday night, there was free parking in front of the restaurant - this is good, because there is no valet parking and I'm not sure where you would park otherwise. The restaurant wasn't at all crowded on a Saturday night. We were a party of six. Service was spotty. Our waiter was nice and gave us all the information from memory but when the orders came, there were two mix-ups. The fish was fresh and tasted good but don't look for inspired dishes. I liked that they did not rush us but the pace of serving was good. However, the "in-between" attention from the wait staff was lacking. Good for a last minute reservation for a party of 4 or more."

"The location is OK for those who work at Merchandise Mart but a bit tricky for anyone who doesn't. We spent 10-15 minutes trying to find the entrance because the Wells bridge was closed. That was the first turn off. At that point we decided, hehnnnnnn, this will not be a repeat experience. The restaurant was not packed, so only one waiter was taking care of all the customers because it was just a few tables that were occupied. This kind of made for a slower than usual service unfortunately. It took a 5-7mins wait after we were sitted for anyone to stop at our table. Then we ordered drinks and appetizers and didn't get those either. The waiter admitted he forgot and came back to just get our entree orders. Overall C-"

"No ambience in the restaurnant. Food average. Waiter not so knowledgable. Supposed to be a nice FISH house and a Cheeseburger was recommended. We had seven in our group and I'm doubtul that any of them will return."

"For a restaurant that specializes in seafood, the fish we each ordered was not any better than that one might find at an Applebee's or similar. The sides were rice pilaf and mixed vegetables which also made the meal seem like it was from a neighborhood grill -- too much oil and not freshly prepared. Not impressed."

"Food was OK, but not memorable. There were 5 of us and 2 ordered soup that was never served. I'm not sure if we were charged for the soup since I generally never review the bill before paying. We dined on a Monday night so there were very few diners, thus I didn't get a feel for how the restaurant would be when crowded. I enjoy "fine dining" but this restaurant, on this night, did not rise to that level. Finally, our waiter was not very attentive, which was quite disappointing since we may have been his only table."

"A very far cry from the original Nick's Fishmarket. Perhaps this new place should be renamed "Nick's Fishmarket Bar & Grill" or "Nick's Fishmarket Diner" with one of those tacky "Cocktails" sign over the door. Zero ambiance. Bad lighting. One step above a cafeteria. It's challenging to concentrate on the "dining experience" at a hard, laminated table in a highly illuminated room surrounded by people in running shoes. Sad!"

"Our dinner was delicious and the service was superb. We will be going back. We sampled lobster bisque, molten lava cakes, and the wine flights. Our fish dinners included lobster risotto, shrimp, and the mixed grill which had tilapia, mahi-mahi, and salmon on it. I'm so glad they participated in Restaurant Week so we could try them out. What a find for us!"

"I came here with my mom for restaurant week. The restaurant was clean, the service was great and the food was exceptional. I highly recommend the lobster bisque! Our server was very nice, and between the great food, relaxed atmosphere and great service I would highly recommend this restaurant. I will be going back again to try their dinner soon!"

"3 of us dined from the restaurant week menu and 1 person chose from the regular menu. The Chilean Sea Bass was excellent which my husband tried on the waiter's recommendation. I am not a fish eater but I have to admit after tasting it that I would have enjoyed this dish too. My daughter and I had the tornedoes served with 3 different crusts along side of garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. This was also excellent and cooked exactly as ordered. My other daughter chose the talapia with a lemon caper sauce and really raved about it. All in all, the food was excellent and so was the service. The atmosphere was fine but could have been warmer and more cozy. Because the food was so good, however, no one seemed to care! Great meal for all!"

"I came here for Restaurant Week and it was pretty tasty. I wasn't as impressed with the lobster bisque like I thought I would be, but the shrimp and lobster risotto was really good! I also enjoyed the molten chocolate cake--it was just the right size to not be overwhelming and put me past being too full. I'd come back for lunch or dinner and try different options on the menu. Our waiter was very nice and did a great job of leaving us be and showing up when we needed to be checked on or brought our next course."

"Our server was polite however i could not understand what he was saying when he was describing the daily specials to us. The restaurant itself was actually very empty for being restaurant week. The cocktails we ordered were horrible, they were watered down with no hint of alcohol. The food was not so impressive as well the lobster bisque was salty, my grouper was decent, however my friend had the Lobster and shrimp risotto which kinda looked like cat food with a grilled lobster tail on top and was just as salty as the Bisque."

"Was a strange location which made the ambiance a little weird. It was a very bright restaurant. We're used to dimmed lights when we go to restaurants like Nick's. Food was excellent but was just an odd location and not really lively."

"Overall the food was good. Had Oysters Rockefeller, a special, that come to the table tepid. Returned half to kitchen for reheat; server returned holding plate with napkin warning of its heat . . . it was a scam; the plate was cold to the touch and oysters had likley only been zapped in microwave and even then not long enough. Server was condescending. Chilean Sea Bass was offered as a special. When asked about sustainability we were told "not to worry about it". Both entres were good but overall wouldnt recommed this to a friend."
