"I am not one of those ppl that go to out to eat and cares about the server babysitting me throughout the whole service... but I do believe in coming around every once in awhile to fill up empty glasses or ask if everything is ok.... this didn't happen here at all. Our server left us alone and we ended up serving ourselves and calling other servers that would pass us for help. Needless to say, although I highly recommend more friendly and approachable service, the tea was fabulous and the food was worth the wait!!"

Review 2 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"We have been taking our mom for Mother's Day high tea for the past four years. The urban tea merchant is the very first one which receives a thumb-up from mom. Her exact word was "let's come back next year!" We were so happy to hear that, and we recommend it to everyone who appreciate sips of tea and good food."

Review 3 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"We chose the Urban Tea Merchant for Mother's Day because of all of the great things we heard and read about it. We were certainly not disappointed. The Ambiance was lovely and the staff greeted us with enthusiasm and seemd excited for our experience. We enjoyed selecting the teas and the food selection was delicious. The sandwhiches were very tasty, the scones were delicious and just when you thought you couldn't eat more? the miniature desserts were too tempting to pass on. This is a great spot to go with a girlfriend to simply indulge and catch up, a wedding shower, baby shower or a couple out on a special occassion. We loved it! and our parents were thrilled."

Review 4 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"The afternoon tea was great, food was exceptionally prepared. We arrived late to our reservation and we still ended up waiting for 10 mins before being seated. Otherwise, tea service was great. Our server, Alexia, was very patient with our tea selection!"

"It was good! The waitress came and introduced a whole bunch of drinks for us, and when we find know what to decide to eat, she went to get us another menu that was specifically for ONE dessert which was much cheaper than anything on the first menu :)"

"Cute and ritzy... Definitely treated like royalty here. Would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a relaxing afternoon tea experience. The West Coast platter is well worth the trip itself! This is my favourite place for tea in the Metro Vancouver Area."

Review 9 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"THe Urban Tea Merchant is a little odd in that the dining area is behind the storefront. It is very much a 'chick' place. The tea is good quality, and the lunch, while a little expensive, is also tasty, although the serving sizes are small. I noticed that they don't necessarily serve tea the way for people who want milk in it (milk goes in the warmed cup first and then hot tea). It's fine for a civilized and quiet lunch, and they are happy to let you sit for quite a while, drinking and chatting. A good respite from the downtown financial district, just 20 steps or so out to the front door."

Review 10 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"THe service was excellent. We had a server that normally covers the retail area. He was fantastic and super friendly. They even gave me some tea to take home since it was my birthday. They charge $15 for sharing the Signature afternoon tea series though which I was willing to pay but next time I might order an a la carte item or something. You get another pot of tea but why not offer the choice of tea or decrease he price. Overall it was a good birthday experience."

Review 11 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"We had a lovely table that was away from the other tables so it was very good conversation as we are soft spoken women. No children were present either so it made for a pleasant leisurely afternoon . Our server was very knowledgeable and helped us make our decisions. Two of us ordered the petite tea service and we had enough. Our other friends ordered the pear and Brie salad and prosciutto salad. The salads looked delicious and it was also plentiful. One of the staff recognized me even though my one other visit was in mid January - very impressive !"

Review 12 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"Had the Sakura set and the large 3 tier set which was both very delicious. If it was worth the $200 price tag with 3 teas...thats a different story. The service was okay, one lady kept forgetting our milk and we had to ask at least 3-4 times for it because she "kept forgetting.""

"A great place to take a good friend or significant other to sit down and enjoy the elegance of high tea for brunch/lunch. Service is really helpful, so don't be afraid to ask for assistance in choosing your tea. It's a bit pricey but well worth the experience :)"

Review 17 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"I have been visiting the Urban Tea Merchant for afternoon tea for about 3 years now...each time I go there the quality of service has been going downhill. This Sunday, we were greeted by a particularly condescending server who we could feel, clearly didn't want us to be there or didn't want to be working there herself (or both). After our group finished our food, we proceeded to chat and drink our tea. We were then brought our bill (we didn't even ask for it!) more than an hour and a half before closing. She then came back with the credit card machines to encourage us to settle the bill and leave. It was a very unpleasant experience overall."

Review 18 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"I truly enjoyed our experience there. They take special time to let you smell the different teas and are free to give suggestions when you let them know your likes or dislikes. The Sukara tea meal was a work of art and the flavor was perfect. A great place for a quiet relaxing afternoon."

Review 19 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"Disappointed with our afternoon tea. We had the exclusive to the downtown location $49 tea combination and were sadly let down with the quality and taste of the food. The flavors were lacking in many of the sandwiches. The breads on a number of them were dried out. Our server did not seem very knowledgable about the selections. Service was awkward."

Review 21 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"Nice atmosphere and decor. The food was okay, not as good as I expected. Macaroons and scones were excellent though. Tea was very good, too.
I was not very impressed with how the staff rushed my party the entire time we were there. I know I was half an hour late for our reservation, however, I did call beforehand to let them know the party is running late and I asked if that would be alright. The staff on the other end of the phone assured me it was fine, since it was a quiet day for them. When we arrived, from beginning to the end, the staff kept repeating over and over that we had to give up the table and leave by a certain time. By the time we ordered and the food came, we had only 45 minutes to an hour to enjoy our meal."

Review 22 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"This is our first time doing the High Tea and it was a wonderful experience. We were seated and food came out rather quickly. The waitress was very patient to explain favor of tea to us. She even brought tea can for us to smell. The favor of tea is very good. We tried the Valentine's Day Tea Service. It has three layers of food. The bottom one is for meal and the middle one is bread and buns and the top one is the sweets. I found the top one is bit too sweet but it is perfect to go with the tea. This is the longest lunch we ever took (more than 1.5 hours) because we took the time to enjoy our food. We were pretty full at end."

Review 24 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"I really enjoyed my posh experience at The Urban Tea Merchant with my younger sister.
The location is convenient for people staying in the downtown area and everything about the place is delightful. I always enjoy the 'hi-tea' type of atmosphere and there really aren't that many places like it. The sweet plate was well presented and the tea lattes were a perfect size and were very delicious! I also enjoyed the brunch menu, the eggs benedict were fantastic. The service was really great too and the music was perfect.
I highly recommend the place for people who are looking for a pleasant, well plated tea time experience. I'm glad my sister and I were able to enjoy this during our stay downtown."

Review 26 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"Food was almost perfect. The fruits they serve are not at par. The savory food they serve are outstanding. Tea selection they provide is mind blowing. I love their teapot! Their service was great. Only downfall is that the price of tea is only for ONE pot, which I think is not enough; no tea leaves inside pot to add hot water. Great experience, will comeback."

Review 28 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"I treated my friend, a British ex-pat and misses all things Britannia like high tea,for her birthday. The afternoon was quiet and the service was friendly, and thoughtful. Our server was very helpful to describe the different types of teas, assist in describing the menu and making suggestions. She spent a good amount of time describing our selection when it was brought to the table. While at first the price seemed a little steep given how small the sandwiches were, both of us went home satisfied, well-fed. It was a little off-putting to see a young Asian woman with a group (we assumed tourists)huddled in her grubby hoodie with having tea with her male friends who were only slightly better dressed.Would love to see a dress code inforced here."

Review 30 for Afternoon Tea - The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown
"The Urban Tea Merchant looks like a retail store on the outside, but inside is a gem of a dining room with a selection of over 200 teas and tea services or dishes to choose from. The service was fantastic, and we got to smell the teas before trying them. I was sold on the Red Chocolate South African tea! There were vegetarian options available, and the Petite Tea service was not as petite as I thought - I was stuffed. A lovely, intimate and special experience and I will definitely be back."
