"My cousin and I took ours Dads to Gene and Georgetti none us have be there. I saw a review on tv about the restaurant and its history and thought it would be a nice outing for Fathers Day. The food was great, our server was nice, attentive, and funny. I'm already recommending the restaurant to family and friends."

"We couldn't decide as there are so many wonderful steak houses in Chicago, but this one is an old classic. Great decision! the steaks were marvelous, the lasagna HUGE, and our waiter J.J. was wonderful. Love it all!"

"Very attentive wait staff, reasonably priced wine by the bottle, good but fairly bland food. Two had steak at our table (petit filet and the larger filet) and both said was good steak but not "best ever." One had the eggplant parmesean (sp?) which was tasty but could have used more spice. Vegetables were family style, sautéed broccoli was very good, could have skipped the cottage fries that came with the meal-very bland. Same with the salad (just lettuce and tomato). Overall bill for three people with one bottle of red wine was $200 which is in line with any downtown restaurant."

"Sure there are better places for steak and pasta but G&G provides a taste of old school, back room deal dining in Chicago. All that's missing is the cigar smoke. Worth a visit here and there if only for a drink in the bar."

"Ordered the chicken vesuvio, I was told that it was a bonles half chicken. What it turned out to be was two flattened chicken breasts that were overcooked. However, the homemade potates with the chicken were excellent.
The salad that accompanied the entee was not very good.
Highlight of meal was the fried raviolli, which is house special.
This is a steak house, so if you can't afford the steak or a veal chop, go else where."

"I have been going to Gene's for 35 years. The pasta, chicken , lamb and veal are often overlooked in the rush to have the best steak in the USA. Start with a garbage salad and calamari and don't eat too much of the irresistible bread before your entre'. Ask for a table with Juan or JJ."

"This is the definition of Old School Steakhouse. Comfortable setting, great service, excellent food. No nonsense unpretentious place for people that want good food and drinks. A refreshing departure from the high dollar chain steakhouses. Our steaks were great, and they didn't to soak us with an overpriced wine list. I highly recommend it."

"My friend and I wanted to experience Chicago's famous steaks and we did here. Steak was awsome, but salad and sides just OK. Service was fine, but not at the level of other restaurants in Chicago we ate at. Portions exceptionally large! We ordered a petite filet and it was huge."

"The service was excellent, but the food was no where as good as I had remembered from previous trips to Chicago. The shrimp was so over cooked it was like rubber, and the steak was simply not the quality I remembered.... It was very disappointing. Probably wont be going back."

"The atmosphere is good. The service is very good. The food is not very good.
Appetizers: Pizza bread - okay. Fried calamari - rubbery.
Salads: Uninspired lettuce & tomato wedge. Not bad, but not good. Compare to Detroit Italian Steakhouses (Marios and Lellis). They serve an antipasto platter with shrimp, salami, cheese, beets, olives.
Filet: Piece of meat, charred on the outside. No seasoning/dry/No flavor. Got suspicious when they brought A1 to our table automatically. Terrible. I eat at a lot of steak houses. This ranks as one of the worst.
Spaghetti: Largest portion I have ever seen served. No complaints.
Egg plant parmesan: Very good.
Tortellini: Not bad.
House cut fries: Thin sliced potato. Some burnt, some raw. Not very good."

"Gene and Georgetti's is very consistent: Good food, good wine, big portions, big bill. The only issue we had this time was our service was slow and our waiter seemed overwhelmed. The restaurant was busy on a friday night and he may have had an overload of tables or demanding diners, either way our service was less than spectacular. The quality of the food made up for any issues we had with the service. The filet my husband had was wonderful, my whitefish was cooked beautifully and the chocolate fudge cake was fantastic!"

"Gene and Georgetti's was a perfect fit for a night on the town. A local, neighborhood feel to this classic Italian restautant lent towards a wonderful experience. We dined pre-concert, and the wait staff took extra care of us, making sure we approved of every course. They also allowed us to see and smell teh fresh fish, gave us suggestions on ordering styles (family style sides), and was incredibly helpful."

"My daughter and I have wanted to visit the restaurant for a while now but she lives out West and we cannot always get together...we are so glad that we were able to visit finally. From the drop off at the valet until our leaving to drive home it was a great experience. The atmosphere was welcoming. The wait staff was attentive and well informed. The food arrived quickly and the presentation was wonderful. The portion sizes were plentiful. It was a good value and an enjoyable time for my family."

"My previous dining experience brought me back when I was entertaining out of town relatives. Where do you take a steak lover who is into history? Gene and Georgetti’s! When you want a steak cooked to perfection with a well-made cocktail – this is the place. We also tried the calabrese salad, mushrooms, and cheese cake. I was REALLY full and didn’t want dessert, but it was too good to pass up."

"We waited an hour despite a reservation. Numbers of people checked in after us and were placed earlier. We were treated like tourists...while we have been living in Chicago for 10 years. Very very disappointing. Never again."

"Awful experience .This is not fitting to be called a true steak house. When I requested Baernaisse sauce with my filet I was told they do not have that. Even before I asked for it they brought out A1 and Ketchup!! The salad that comes with the meal was about what I would get at McDonalds. Some type of unknown dressing that they called Caesar was glopped on top. The potatoes served were hard as a rock. The filet was sitting bare on the plate- no garnish- no anything. If this is supposed to be Chicago's finest steak house then I pity the others."

"On my next visit to Chicago, this will be my first stop!! The waitstaff is so friendly and helpful, as are the regular diners. Everyone wants you to LOVE this place! The food is plentiful and so delicious. If you like traditional Italian, this is your place! Very busy, with a continual flow of people."

"My wife took me here while we were on vacation for my 30th birthday. While I typically prefer a little more seasoning on my steak, the food was delicious, nonetheless. The beef was very high quality (as should be expected for the price) and the sides of creamed spinach and a home fries were fantastic. The service was impeccable but what I truly enjoyed was the atmosphere. I felt like I was at the scene of a high end restaurant during the roaring twenties. I seriously thought Eliot Ness might walk in any minute and celebrate a victory meal after catching Capone. This was truly a unique, and tasty, way to get the "Old Chicago" experience."

"This evening was planned to celebrate a special birthday and Gene & Georgetti's did not disappoint. The food, service and atmosphere was perfect. The servings are definitely to be shared. "I have eaten at Gene and Georgetti's many times and have taken many business associates and clients there. I have never been disappointed in the food, service, or lively atmosphere. Everyone I have ever taken there has been very enthusiastic and many have told me they have in turn taken their clients and associates there afterwards.

"Totally old-school steakhouse, more of an experience than a great meal. Salad was just iceberg and one (not particularly ripe) wedge of tomato with a big pile of blue-cheese dressing. Steak undercooked, no sauces available. Ambiance is historic but food in a bit of a time warp. Wine list markups weren't bad but no vintages listed."

"This is a steakhouse, and we all ordered steaks. 5 of 6 guests thought the steaks were the best they had ever had. Juicy, flavorful, perfectly cooked. This is a very nice place, but it is not stuffy or pretentious. VERY relaxing atmosphere, incredible bar, wonderful service, nice selection of wines. The next time business takes us to Chicago, we'll be back here ... hungry for more!"
