Welcome to Garcon! Garcon encapsulates an old-world French bistro with a casual and friendly atmosphere like one would find in France. Chef Arthur Wall delivers a stylish interpretation of French classics like coq au vin, mussels, duck confit and French onion soup. A New Orleans native, classically trained at the Winsdor Court Hotel, Chef Wall has always loved French cooking but with the resources and setting of the west coast. He sources the freshest ingredients, cooking in the seasons and changing the menu daily. Garcon offers a diverse selection of local and old world wines, local oysters and cheeses as well as daily prix fixe and holiday tasting menus. Access to private lounge offset from main dining allows people to engage in intimate conversation and parties as well.

"This is my second time at Garcon, and the second time we experienced issues. The service was the most disappointing part. While the server was pleasant, when my mother ordered the Angus Beef Burger, the server told her, "Not a good choice!" She stated that this is what she wanted, and he tsk tsk'd her while shaking his head.
Secondly, the service was extremely slow that we had eaten our bread and had empty glasses for about 15 minutes. Our server finally came by and stated that our meals were coming right out. Then another 10 minutes went by before they did.
Unfortunately, my Steak Fritte was cold and full of chewy fat, and a friend next to me found a 2-inch piece of plastic in the butter on his steak. I won't be back."

"The food at Garcon was very good and our cocktails at the bar were great! We had the 'Reunion' which has rum and mango.
The service was less than expected - while the wait staff was attentive, it took forever to get our appetizer and then a longer wait for the entree.
I may go back because it really is a nice restaurant."

"San Francisco has SO many great restaurants serving delicious, innovative, fresh food - with new restaurants opening all the time. I found the food at Garcon to be quite mediocre, and it wasn't exactly cheap (prices were comparable to, if not higher than many other, MUCH better restaurants). The service was almost painfully slow. And there was a slightly awkward vibe in the place due to the fact that the young hostess would pace slowly around the tables, observing (?) the diners; it was unclear what her purpose was, as she never smiled, or asked how our meal was, or if we needed anything... It really just felt like surveillance! (My dining companion didn't notice it because her back was to the room, but I noticed it, and it was weird.)"

"We've been to Garcon a number of times, and have generally had a good experience and great food. This past outing was bad due to the fact that we had a waiter who just projected an attitude that he just didn't want to serve us, for whatever reason. At one point, he didn't visit the table for a half hour, and we had to flag down other waiters to refresh drinks and check on the status of our meal. It ended with having to get up from the table and tell the hostess were we done and wanted to leave. She gave attitude as well, Too bad. Garcon, time to start firing a few "bad apples.""

"Nice restaurant, good menu with some very well executed classic dishes, although a couple of specials were sold out by the time we arrived at 8pm. Excellent waiter, but service was slow, largely I suspect because of the kitchen and not the wait staff. Waiter recommended an excellent Bordeaux which while not inexpensive was a good value for the quality."

"uuuhhmm.... the host and bar staff can have a bit of an attitude that if you don't take personally the food makes up for. Me and my significant other were there for V-Day price-fix and had made the reservation a month before due to a previous WONDERFUL meal with a waiter that was overwhelmingly charming (that could even tolerate/entertain my boyfriend trying to order in french). Anyways back to V-Day, reservation set at 8:30 thru OpTable.com app and we were not sat till 9:15. We did get the roomiest table and were thoroughly impressed by the price-fix. If you have strong wine preferences, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. Being a California wine obsessed diner it was a brilliant vacation from the norm~ worldwide varietals."

"We go here once a year, usually on New Year's Eve which is my lady's birthday and is notoriously hard to get a table at a restaurant but Garcon always has an open time slot that is actually in the dinner timeframe and then they remember us from year to year which always makes me feel great. This year we were out of the country for NYE so we went on Valentine's Day instead and were not disappointed. Great wines, delicious plates, and always a reliably tasty filet mignon - cooked rare to perfection. I should really try to eat here more often.. :)"

"I came here with my girlfriend for our 1st Valentines Day. We had reservations and got seated quickly. It was a VERY loud environment with close tables.
Food was fair, but not worth the price. They did impress with 1 of the 4 dishes. The filet mignon was supposed to be cooked medium rare, but it came out as medium and dry. The seafood dish was bitter. Dessert was alright: creme burlee and ice cream.
Service was terrible. Waiter spilled water on my girlfriend. Food took too long to come out between 2nd course and main. Dinner lasted 2.5hrs because of wait time!! I would not recommend this place to anyone. I felt robbed!!"

"Took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day. There was a pre fixe menu which was awesome. It started with amuse bouche of persimmon and duck liver, then as a second course I got lamb gnocchi while the lady got a squid ink risotto with lobster. The gnocchi was amazing and really tender/flavorful. The risotto was good, but could have used a little more flavor. We both got filet mignon for the main course which was perfect.
Lastly, for dessert we got dulce de leche ice cream with house made churros(amazing) and a creme brûlée which was stellar as well.
We brought our own wine and the corkage fee was reasonable($20)"

"I made a reservation well in advance for Valentines day with my girlfriend. On the positive side, the food was very tasty and the restaurant has a great atmosphere which was well suited to occasion. We arrived promptly for our reservation however and were told that they were running 30 minutes behind. Disappointed that they hadn't given us any notice after confirming the reservation one day prior, we went out for a drink elsewhere (there was no room at the bar). After returning ~35 minutes later we waited another 10 at the restaurant to be seated where slow service continued. We weren't very put off by the pace, and rather simply enjoyed the good wine, however the couple beside us left before their mains arrived after a similar experience."

"The food was VERY good. I can't believe this was my first time here. The service was pretty slow and the location of our table was poor b/c the service staff kept bumping/kicking my chair throughout the evening - it was located back-facing the bar. There was also a service stand two tables away that was distracting b/c servers were filling containers with something from a squeeze bottle and you could hear non-stop splattering noise. But again, the food was great and I would go back in a heart beat."

"It was very cold in the restaurant and there was no music at all.
When we said it was cold, the waiter told us it just rained outside. Really? Has climate control not been invented yet?
The food was very good, but people go to restaurants for the ambiance as well, and with a cold and silent interior, this place failed my expectations."

"Garcon presents a visually pleasing, flavorful cuisine with a genuine New Orleans (NOLA) influence. The chef is obviously proud of his work for which he has good reason. It was a totally delightful dining experience, which, if we were not rushed because of our theater engagement, would have enjoyed much longer. I can't wait to return. If one lives near the restaurant, this should be a regular dining experience due to the great menu specials offered."

"The food is extraordinary and though we arrived late past our reservation time (we did call to let them know we would be late) they were very gracious and seated us right away and served us in time to get us to our show at the Marsh. We will definitely go back and allow more time to enjoy it!"

"We had a great time at Garcon for my husband's birthday. Great ambiance, service excellent (and charming), all the dishes were excellent - they also read the note on open table about its being my husband's b'day and were all prepared to specialize the dessert. A lovely evening all around."

"Garcon is a very nice little joint, with a unique french bistro feeling.
The food is very good, here and there a little mistake in prep, but nice quality.
Service lacks though. Our server removed the wine glasses and list prematurely when we were ordering aperitif. Also I had to ask for bread, unfortunately after the starter was served.
I like to point out, that we weren't having the Dine about town, but ate a la carte and the place was not packed. I cant understand the lack in service here

"The issue I had with Garcon that it was very cold my wife and daughters had there coats all night. The other issue I had was the service was very slow, in every way, from receiving our wine to apps and the main course.
The waiters were nice in fact a couple next to us walked out and left there wine because the service was so slow.
Food was good but not as hot as I would like it."

"They were behind on getting us seated by 30 minutes. Then when we were seated, our waiter didn't come to the table for 15 minutes. We ordered everything at once since we had plenty of time to review the menu. After sitting for another 10 minutes, our waiter came over and asked us if we wanted to order drinks and we told him he had already taken our drink order. We told him again and then finally got our drinks another 10 minutes later. As far as ambiance, it was freezing in the restaurant. Horrible service but the food was outstanding. However, there are so many other restaurants that have amazing food and great service that it isn't worth going to again. I recommend Cafe Claude instead of Garcon."
