"We have been to Tavern 58 at Gibbs before. While the food is wonderful, the service is very mediocre. Both times, we had to ask for bread and to have drinks refilled. We thought it was an off- night the first time we went but the second time was even worse. The menu choices are extensive, especially with daily specials but the portions are small for the price. With what a meal costs, one would expect much more attentive service. We were there after the dinner rush and still servers walked by without checking to see if we needed anything. Everything took so long! Frustrating since the fare is wonderful! We won't go back."

"My husband and I found Tavern58 by reading reviews online and decided to try it out over the winter prior to seeing a show at the Eastman theater. We were blown away by the both the friendly and helpful staff as well as the outstanding food. We couldn't resist going back again but this time bringing our families who were also very pleased by both the service and food. We could not believe that we had never heard about Tavern58, and of course we have since spread the word about this hidden gem in Rochester to friends and family. Loved the fact that they were open so late so that we could return for dessert and drinks/coffee after Eastman. This is definitely our new favorite in Rochester!"

"We went as a group of 13 people including kids. We wanted a light meal with some drinks. It was perfect for us with good food (serviceable pub fare) and prompt service. The beer selection was good. It is very kid friendly. For what we were looking for it was perfect."

"We celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary the evening of May 25. Fantastic dinner, service and vibe. Nick surprised us with the duck confit on micro greens, with mango on crostini which had been offered as a lunch special the day before. It was scrumptious...and you've got to try this enough for a dinner or app for two! We both had the Frosted Flakes (that's right, the cereal!) encrusted mako shark. The flakes provided some interesting texture and sweetness to the mild white fish. Outdoor dining now open for this gem of a restaurant. We'll be returning soon."

"My wife and I dined after 9 pm on a Friday. As expected the food was outstanding (cant keep myself from getting the Gibbs St Angus Burger....simply the tastiest burger I think I have ever had!). The house salad was a work of art itself with a great balance of balsamic vinigrette, candied pecans, gorg cheese, and berries.....we wanted a lighter appetizer. The service was great , good volume on the background music (classic blues-type.....feel good Friday night music). Just a really good vibe about the place....as always. Love how one of the owners chatted with us and took pride in his restaurant. That says a lot as far as i am concerned. Cant wait to go back during Jazz festival!"

"Tavern58 is close to the Auditorium Theater so is perfect for an early before show dinner. They had a salad/entrée/dessert show menu that was perfect. Everything from the wines and starter to the dessert was beautifully presented and delicious. One of the owners circulated and chatted with diners, just keeping tabs on service and the quality of the food. We will return, especially some night when we can sit outside."

"As always we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this very cozy dining establishment. It starts when you walk in the door and greeted by Ryan Dwyer in the bar area. The hostess and the wait staff are very cordial and engaging. The food is excellently prepared by Chef Mike Schnupp with a wonderful flair for taste. Then to make sure everything has gone well Ryan's brother Nick visits us and checks to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction. We finished the night with coffee and a sumptuous desert and we were left alone to chat for a time instead of being hurried away from our table. What sets Tavern 58 apart from other restaurants is that the staff makes you feel so comfortable while you are in their company."

"This was our first visit to Tavern 58 and we will be back for sure. The food was wonderful, perfectly prepared, beautifully plated, and an excellent combination of flavors. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The entire staff was great. The prices were very fair considering the quality of the food, and level of service. I would come here for a special occasion or a "date night" but would not hesitate to dine here anytime. Friends and family have told us that the wings are the best in the city. There is also patio seating which would be nice in the warmer weather. I would highly recommend Tavern 58!!"

"Tavern 58 always delivers. We went prior to going to a show. Their prix fix menu was perfect. The soft pretzel bites are a nice sharing appetizer as are the tavern chips. We always have an exceptional meal with wonderful friendly service. Rosalie is friendly, knowledgable and attentive. Nick is an absolute wonderful host. He cares that his guests have a good time. We will be back!"

"My teenage daughter and I ate dinner at Tavern58 before attending an RPO concert at Eastman theatre. We love how easy it is to park in the garage next to the theatre, walk a block through some of the Eastman student housing (sometimes we can hear budding virtuosos practicing), and sit down to a great meal in a warm atmosphere. This is a favorite spot for us."

"Tasty meals. It was hard to decide what to order. So many dishes sounded delicious and our selections were quite good! Portion size is moderate and prices are a bit steep. The location makes it a perfect spot for a meal before a show or concert and the place was full when we left. Service was so-so. We waited forever for bread, asked our server and it still didn't come. We were charged $.05 for a refill of iced tea, too. While we enjoyed our meal, the overall experience wasn't completely satisfying."

"This is a very nice restaurant. The service is relaxed yet the wait staff is quite attentive. I wasn't thrilled with the table next to the kitchen door but it wasn't really that bothersome. If we had come during the warmer months it would be very nice to sit on the outside patio. With one exception the food was excellent. The calamari was perfectly cooked. I would have like a spicier sauce with it. My wife's schnitzel was excellent as were the desserts. I had the seafood special with shrimp, scallops and a small lobster tail. The lobster was rather plain and a little rubbery-hence my only real complaint about dinner. The dish was $34 mostly driven by the cost of the boring lobster which it could easily have done without."

"Great dinner, and doesn't take itself too seriously. Hangar steak was fantastic, spring rolls were good. Specialty Manhattan was potent. Wife did the Prix Fixe menu... Already made our next reservation. Sonya was a fantastic server! Only concern I had (a pet peeve) was that the wine I ordered to have with my dinner arrived well after my entree. But that happens more often than not I find. Really wish bars and kitchens could coordinate that better. Otherwise, fantastic experience."

"We dined here prior to seeing Wicked at RBTL. They menu was plentiful and enticing. We opted for the pre-show special of salad, main entree, and dessert. We made an early reservation (2 hours prior to the show). We told our waiter more than twice that we were going to the show in hopes our service would be faster.He never acknowledged that we were going to the show. Instead, he advised us it was his last day working there (slightly inappropriate). He was friendly and our order was correct, but the service was very slow, leaving us nervous about being late and not finding parking at RBTL. When he finally came to our table I asked for the check prior to dessert. The cream puffs were bland and tasteless, so we just paid and hurried off."

"I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to recommend this to anyone that I knew. The food is incredible and everything is prepared quite exceptionally. I went with a friend for her birthday and we went took a full run on the menu! Appetizers entrées and dessert. To say the least there is nothing i can say badly about this restaurant. The owner and chef should be very proud of themselves. They put together a remarkable dining experience."

"Looking for a last minute Saturday night dinner. Being a holiday weekend, had no problems getting a spot. Service was great; waitress engaging and attentive throughout the course of the evening. Dinner, as has been on previous occasions, was worth it. Ordered several of the evening specials -- definitely a variety of flavors combined to make a unique dining experience. "Had an unexpected pleasant experiance at Tavern 58 as first time patrons. We walked into the bars, were greeted by the BAr amanger and baretnder and some of the bar patrons as soon as we walked in.

"I thought going here twice in two weeks might not be such a good idea. Turns out it was a great idea. Three of us had the special Prix Fixe dinners and the other opted for a traditional entree. Still did not stop our party from ordering our must have, the Genny Ale, Crab & Cheese Fondue--and another appetizer because one couple now refuses to share the fondue, regardless of how it's listed on the menu. As on two previous trips the food is simply wonderful. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, the service attentive, responsive and helpful. Looking forward to our next meals."

"We had reservations for a group of 4 on a Friday night. It was pretty busy and the bar was hopping, but we were seated right away. They were offering a prix fixe menu for St. Patrick's Day weekend which 2 of our group got. I didn't love how the presented the shepherd's pie b/c I like my mashed potatoes on top, but the chef mixed them into the dish. That being said, it was still delicious--just an expectation thing. My husband got the skate with gnocchi, which was the table favorite.
We will definitely return--perhaps to take advantage of the nice patio when it's warmer out."

"Pleasantly surprised with great food and service. You know how to run an effective restaurant with owners in the kitchen and the floor. It really makes a difference and it showed in comparison to local spots in Fairport we usually frequent. Hidden gem is the best way to describe our experience. We will be sure to return and get are friends out to check your place out."
