"The food was excellent as was the wine selection. Service was excellent. The only negative was that all patrons were crowded into one room for service while all other rooms remained empty. Maybe convenient for the servers but resulted in little privacy or intimacy for the diner."

"The appetizers were "scary" and generally not very good. If I had to rate this restaurant on appetizers alone, it would receive one star. The main courses were the only thing that made up for the poor start. The duck was very well prepared as was the steak dish. Service was very good. But, this restaurant has yet to figure out what they want to be. It's not French; it's not American; it's not Asian...But they tried to "fuse" all three into a meal and it doesn't really work. Concentrate on one style and do the best with it you can...This fusion doesn't blend well..."

"Had the poached cod. Fish was dry and the sauce that came with it had little taste and wasn't enough to moisten the fish. The maitre de was extremely apologetic; gave us dessert on the house as well as his card. He said to call before coming next time and he would personally ensure a better dining experience. This impressed us.
We will try the restaurant again based on this, but at this time cannot recommend to a friend. Maybe after second experience if it proves first time was unusual."

"I hate eating in the theater district - overpriced, uncomfortable. However, La Silhouette was extraordinary. Close enough to walk to the play, but a true neighborhood restaurant. The food was beyond delicious, service was attentive, but not rushed. They managed our large party (6) without an issue. It was a true treat to have such an inventive and delicious French meal and then stroll over to see our show."

"Recommended by our concierge, La Silhouette was a great choice for a pre-theater dinner. The host asked upon arrival if we were going to the theater. Service was attentive and unobtrusive and we were finished on time without feeling rushed. The three course fixed price menu was just what we wanted. The peace and quiet was like a breath of fresh air; La Silhouette was the quietest restaurant we ate at our whole week in Manhattan! We would definitely return."

"We went for a pre-theater dinner and were utterly unimpressed. The food was-- pate, roast chicken, dessert-- was just fair and loaded with salt. The pate was fine, but surprisingly sweet. The chicken was oversalted but reasonably tasty, though the flabby skin and slightly gloppy sauce suggested that it had been roasted a few hours ago and then reheated under the sauce. The brownie for dessert (titled, in a menu, a parfait) was hard and tasted as if it had been left over from the day before. Service was attentive but inappropriate for the venue-- the food was very basic bistro fare, but the many servers gave the impression that they believe they have a high-end restaurant. We won't return."

"Squash soup to start was very good. Had the prix fixe and was very disappointed. Mushroom soup was the best part of this three part meal. Had the chicken as the main and it was dry with an overly salty reduction on top. The panna cotta was very bland. I did enjoy the complimentary homemade marshmallow though.

"I would not return here. The food was pretty good, but they gave us the appetizer-sized gnocchi for an entree (we had originally ordered the entree size), told us it was the appetizer-sized (which we said, "okay, that's fine"), then charged us for the entree-sized. When raised the issue with them, the head waiter came out and told us that we had been, in fact, served the entree size. The difference between the entree size and appetizer was 5 pieces of gnochii (13 pieces to 8). The difference in price? $12."

"Other than the hostess being a bit down, this is some of the best service i have had in nyc. Attentive, fast, professional, but not hovering. They gave us a course on the house to try. It was lunch btw. Re: the food. Salad starter was pleasant, but a bit underwhelming, the comped mushroom soup excellent, chicken was fair--a bit dry and definitely over-salted. desert was stellar. they are really trying and on some fronts succeeding quietly brightly."

"There are 5 special cocktails and one looks better than the next. I ordered the strawberry lemonade and it was fabulous. My friend had scallops that she loved. I am a vegetarian and had to request something be made for my main course. The only restriction I gave was "no pasta". I received a very small portion of various mushrooms with a few cipolone onions and quartered small potatoes in a light sauce. Sadly, the dish was bland, not filling and rather pricy. I hoped a good French chef would love the opportunity to be creative with the dish but he or she was not creative at all.
The restaurant is pricy especially for the portions. I rarely eat dessert or have coffee after any meal but I had to after this meal because I was still so hungr"

"What can I say---I read about 100 reviews and they all were good---so we decided to go before theater. We ordered the pre-fix. Our reservation was for 5:45pm--we arrived a bit early and were seated at once. The staff was friendly---in some ways too attentive. Food came right away so we didn't get to sit and sip our cocktails. We ordered the roasted half chicken based on the reviews saying it was excellent. Our appetizer and desserts were fine but the chicken which had been brined was too salty to eat. It might just have been ours as others with the same dish seemed fine. The Maitre'D came over--was very apologetic and adjusted our bill. I hope ours was just a fluke because the service and atmosphere were great!"

"Best restaurant in NYC. You can actually have a conversation without competing with pop music blaring over a cheap sound system. Great for that perfect date.
Service is friendly and impeccable. They greet you like family. The design is worth a special trip."

"This could have been a very off night--but the probelms are deep and would require significant changes. First, duck confit should come hot and crispy--not slimy and cold. Buy a salamander. Second, HOT PLATES FOR HOT FOOD. You claim to be Parisian--I live there and this is far from Parisian. The NYT critic needs to get a bit of taste--completely clueless. Third, the duck breast was very good (better if the plate was hot), but the coconut snapper was aweful. It clearly had been frozen as it took on a lot of water and broke down when hit with a fork. The wine list was acceptable--but the reds were kept way too cold (55 degrees, not 40 degrees).
Way better choices in NYC than this place."

"The service was excellent, and we believe that the food would normally excellent.
We are wiling to go again to rate this restaurant, since the night we went, his chicken was very oversalted, and my butter beans were undercooked. No, we did not complain but just ate it.
Given our perceived quality of the restaurant, we think this might have been because we chose the cheaper Restaurant Week meal; perhaps attention to detail was not given. The noise level was also very high. Everything else was lovely."

"I went to dinner with my mom at La Silhouette for a girl's night out. The staff was outstanding from the hostess, to our servers and the sommelier. The food was delicious and brought out with perfect timing. Portions were well sized and I felt of good value. It seemed to be a good idea to have a reservation between 7 and 9PM, since we were seated quickly but did see a bit of a line when we left."

"We like the location.. very convenience and cool interior. The food was fine, it's not special but just fine, but we are very disappointed about their cocktails... The taste was horrible and they charged us for $16...! The cheapest glass of wine was also $16, very pricy."
