54 Mint is a little gem in the heart of downtown San Francisco across from the old US Mint Building. We offer authentic Italian cuisine prepared only with fresh and seasonal ingredients. Our pastas and desserts are made fresh on a daily basis. 54 Mint is also a retail store where you can purchase, for a simple gift or for your own need, a variety of imported products such as extra virgin olive oil from Umbria, balsamic vinegars, cheese, spices, wines and much more...Our bar will remain open until midnight offering an extended variety of cocktails and high-end imported and local spirits as well as a late-night menu of small bites.
"I wanted to like this place more, as the layout was beautiful and the service was excellent. My pasta dish was great (Gnochi), but my wife's was just so-so (pasta special with morel mushrooms and huckleberrys). She was very excited to order the Burrata cheese starter with asparagus, but the cheese was bland and of an odd consistency for what we are used to, and she orders Burrata plates a lot. She was also very disappointed in her dessert (panna cotta), while my son and I loved the tiramisu.
Overall I'm saying it was good, but with my wife's experience, we won't be back. Service was great though. We had a mishap with one of the dishes and they went overboard apologizing.....comping that plate and dessert."

"54Mint has excellent food and service. The dining area is very intimate due to its small capacity seating and elegantly rustic look. The food is worth the price listed due to its overall size of portion and flavor. The only con, if you could call it one, is their limited open bar."

"A terrific place for a wonderful evening with friends. Our waiter was helpful with very good advice about the menu, every dish was delicious and true to the best of northern Italian cuisine. Wine list - modest prices, excellent. Definitely a favorite for the last 3 years, highly recommend 54 Mint!"

"How great to find an outstanding restaurant two short blocks from The Warfield! Wonderful menu, numerous selctions perfect for our vegetarian friends. Great Manhattan and fresh halibut for me. Loud, but, we all just talked louder! We'll be back!"

"Restaurant food is outstanding, but the noise level awful. It is at times hard to hear your table guests when they talk. It would be great if the management were to try and tone the noise level down, with cloth, hanging from the ceiling and walls, it would so much better and add the level of enjoyment."

"One of my favorite places in SF. The food is spectacular. The service is attentive but not intrusive. My pork chop was cooked to perfection. My partner's pasta was al dente, and the ingredients were fresh and top notch. This was my fourth time at 54 Mint, and it never disappoints. I love the room as well."

"Love this place. Have been with my friend who is a vegetarian. We always find something interesting on the menu that we can both share. Usually sit at the bar and the staff there are really wonderful."

"Fast service, food came faster, and the food we ordered was delicious! Jennifer recommended a wine from our last visit that complimented well with the food. Highly recommended place!"

"We had a special dinner for a group at 54 Mint, honoring a friend's recent retirement. We had requested a special table in as quiet a spot as possible. The restaurant complied by providing a larger table in the basement, which is marginally less noisy than the upstairs main dining room. It wasn't as quiet as I'd hoped, or as intimate as I was led to believe from the ads and conversations with the restaurant. But, we had excellent food, service, wine, and an overall lovely experience. I will definitely return, but more likely with a younger, more noise-friendly crowd. The space is simply a bit too loud for casual conversation, even in its quiet spots."

"54 Mint is a nice, small and cozy Italian/Mediterranian restaurant. However, the noise level was high and the menu is limited. My dining partner had the gnocci special which was very good. However, the restaurant was out of the lamb and I ordered the pork chop which the waiter stated was one of his favorite menu items. Well, the pork chop was enormously thick (~1.5") and I could barely cut into it with a steak knife. Needless to say, it was very tough. I mentioned it to the waiter and he did not offer to take it back or do anything about it. Disappointing. I would not return to 54 Mint."

"We had a fantastic dinner here. Our group was four adults and two kids and the restaurant accommodated our many requests with ease. The food was delicious - I recommend trying as many different dishes as possible. Standouts were the salads, the burrata and asparagus starter, the flatbread of the day, and every one of the the pastas we tried - oxtail ragu, regular ragu (for the kids) and the black pepper pasta."

"Food was great. Service was great until some guy came in and sat at the bar. Our server talked to him the entire rest of the hour that we were there, kind of ignoring the restaurant."

"We were there for Valentine's Day. As a result, we were limited to a set menue prix fix. That's understandable on a very busy holiday, although it wasn't full while we were there. The menu included things we didn't want and in fact can't eat, including desert and bubbly at the end. But, we paid for it, at $75/head. Still, even with the very limited choice range available, we had delightful food, and I would like to try the restaurant again. One thing did present a problem for us, though, and that was the lighting: it was way, way too bright. Especially on Valentine's Day, I would have turned the lights down a bit and put some candles on the table."

"I convinced a couple of girlfriends to have dinner there before a show at the Orpheum. We were tight on time and needed to hop into a cab to get to the theatre, but it was well worth it! I love, love, love this restaurant! Always a warm welcome (thank you Nicholas), a helpful server and great food - you supply good company and you're all set."

"I felt the menu was limited though it may be due to the time of the year I went. The service was only good as it was hard to get our server's attention at times. A nice choice if you are catching a show at the Golden Gate Theater."

"Plan on an early meal if you have theater tickets (at least 5:30 for and 8:00 show) and request seating upstairs. Also be prepared to place our entire order - drinks, wine, appetizers/primi through dessert - at one time, and hope the kitchen and server can stage it properly.
Skip the bread, risotto croquette was delish and the homemade pasta was very good, sauce was ok. We didn't have time to consider the grill or dessert (6:00 seating, show at the Orpheum at 8...)"

"I had high hopes for this place. Good was good but lazy, my lardons weren't rendered and squishy Bacon is just gross. The waiter seemed annoyed that we were even there. Owner was charming and engaged with his customers, but we felt like we were stuck in the middle of the room In everybody's way. (Our table was dead in the middle and wasn't cozy)"

"Food was above average. Serice was fair. Waiter was poliate but didn't seem well in tune with diners. Most notable was the fact that hostess came. Out of the restaurant to meet me when I had difficulty finding the restaurant."

"I went to 54 Mint three days in a row last week. First night with a friend - who was happy and impressed, the next night I was greeted with a kiss and "welcome home" and the third day for lunch with a friend who is Italian. At this point, the waiter called me by name, the Italian spoke Italian with the staff, and verified the food is authentic. Love the food. Love the ambiance, and the service is really amazing.Thank you 54 Mint!"

"Although the food was delicious, there was inflexibility as to any changes to the dishes. I had taken my family there for a gift, and I felt uncomfortable that they could not get what they wanted in a salad or side dishes. On top of that, unfortunately, the neighborhood is very trashy, and we had to walk through drunken arguments among street people. Considering these details, it was quite pricey."

"This is the third or fourth time I have eaten at 54 Mint--I make a point to try to eat here whenever I am in town. The food and service are always wonderful. If you're not one for crowds and noise (it's a small space with concrete walls and floors) you may want to try for a reservation at a less busy time of evening."
