Eclectic without being eccentric, One Red Door is a chef-driven modern American tavern that usees the best seasonal and artisanal components to create delicious food in a variety of sizes and prices. The brainchild of Chef Shawn Monday and his wife Tiffany, One Red Door also offers handmade cocktails and diverse wine and beer lists. The decor of wood, stone and man-made materials creates an open space that is simultaneously comfortable and elegant.
"One Red Door, in the old Vue space, serves eclectic, delicious fare at a reasonable (lunch) price. It's their hospitality that needs a bit of tweaking. When we arrived, there was an empty plastic water bottle atop the hostess station - beautiful restaurant, a definitely jarring note. It was our guest's birthday (this one was 85, which I'd noted in my reservation comments, so easily discernable). At other restaurants when I've done this, the host/ess has always wished that guest a happy birthday and have also either sent out an amuse or dessert for the celebration, or at least put a candle on the dessert we ordered - didn't happen here. BUT the food was uniformly delicious and well-presented.Wish I'd been able to give 5 stars."

"I believe the chef from the original Downtown 140 opened this restaurant and also Flip Side. Downtown 140 was my favorite restaurant not just in Hudson, but in the world and I had many others say the same thing...people from Chicago who ate at Charlie Trotter's, etc.I've eaten at Michael Symon's restaurants, Rick Bayless' and many other trendy restaurants in the country / world and Downtown 140 beat them hands down. However, the menu made it over from Downtown 140 to One Red Door, but the flavor didn't. All the food was very good, B+ overall, but my expectations were higher. Anyway, I'll be back. Great menu and great service, perhaps they just had issues in the kitchen that night."

"We had told them it was our anniversary and they put us at a private booth which was awesome! BUT, the booth was attached to the door to the kitchen so every time they opened the door you could feel the banging of the door and it was bothersome. It ruined the excitement of the private booth so it was not enjoyable. The food was very good though and enjoyed it very much. The service was rushed and were trying to enjoy our time together."

"Coming from out of town, we didn't know what to expect but it was a great place with excellent food in a great little town. Nice patio seating available if it's warm enough. Great staff. I would go back."

"Great atmosphere, and you can't go wrong on any dish. Been here several times for different occasions (anniversary, girls night and client dinners). My only issue is that couples setting always seems to be up front. Consider a few tables more tucked away for a more intimate experience."

"My wife and I had a nice Saturday night meal with an early seating at 6:15 p.m. made through Open Table. I only made the reservations mid week leading up to the dinner. The staff was friendly and patient as we studied the menu and made helpful recommendations. We started with the charcuterie board with 3 cheeses and 2 meats. Tiffany (co owner) brought the board and gave a great description of all the tasty items on the board. We then order or main dishes, I had the halibut which was great with an interesting pirogie type side noodle filled with potatoes. My wife mixed and matched the short ribs and a olive tapanade and we just grazed and enjoyed our bottle of chardonay together. A great dessert of blueberry tart and vanilla icecream."

"My group of 8 enjoyed a yummy lunch and good conversation at One Red Door. We are a group of ladies who were getting together after not seeing each other for several years and received great service - not too pushy or intrusive. The restaurant was busy, but there were enough tables to handle the guests, and our server never made us feel rushed. I live in the area and will return!"

"Cons: Overlooked by bartenders for 15 minutes (as a matter of fact, NEVER asked for our order despite holding the drink menu in front of us and they weren't THAT busy) - oversalted food - extremely small plate portions, even for small plate veterans - we won't bother returning. There are too many better restaurants; why this one has the hype it has is a mystery.
Pros: Good wine list and Brett the waiter."

"My first time and, then, only for lunch but can't wait to return for dinner. Had only a soup special and salad but readily apparent great cooking abounds in the kitchen. Hope to return soon even though Hudson is a little far afield."

"Our 2nd time to One Red so expectations were high! Sadly they were not met this time. Here's the 411...The small plate Calamari may have been the best we have ever had! Truly delicious. The small plate chicken wings were equally delightful. The small plate pizza, was good, but not memorable. Son #1 ordered the pork and while it was good, the noodles. mushrooms and spinach side was just strange. None of us bothered finishing that for him! Son #2 ordered the burger and it was DELICIOUS!! I had the Grouper and while the risotto was good, the Grouper was just o.k. Dry and not memorable. Husband had the steak med rare, I found it to be chewy. 3 glasses of wine and $185 later, I was hoping for a better foodie experience for $$$."

"This was my first time dining at One Red Door. I liked it. Their menu is eclectic and has a wide variety of dishes from which to choose. Like many trendy restaurants, there is an emphasis on including bacon/pork/braising in many dishes. Tasty, but not quite the health-consciousness of not so long ago. The tapenade was too salty but everything else we had was very tasty. The service could have been a little better. When the restaurant was in full swing, there were long waits between check-ins by the server, which was a problem when one of the dishes was not prepared as requested. It was an enjoyable evening and I would recommend highly and I would go back as well. The decor is great-looking and comfortable."

"We were so excited to go to One Red Door for their Sunday brunch. We'd been several times before for dinner, but this time it was Easter. The restaurant was not packed, but still had a nice energy. We were excited about the menu, but both of us changed our choices after hearing the specials, steak and eggs and leg of lamb. The service was refined, but not attentive. We thought it was the holiday rush, but there was a nonfactor. About the menu, we are used to overpriced items, but $4 for a HALF glass of orange juice is a bit absurd. So once the food arrived, we both were disappointed. My leg of lamb looked very unappetizing when it arrived, then was basically not very tasty. My husband's steak and eggs were flavorful, but small."

"This was a great experience! I had added a note for a private table because we were celebrating our anniversary and they truly accomodated. When we arrived the hostess took us to a private booth and wished us a Happy Anniversary after she seated us. The food was awesome. We shared a spring roll and the scallops for our 1st course. So good!! We had the warm spinach salad 2nd and then both had the pork chop for dinner. We shared the brownie for dessert. Everything was so good. I have no complaints. Awesome time!!"

"Went to check out for restaurant week. Food and service were great. Restaurant has a rustic feel to it. Spinach salad was delicious and Chicken entree was perfectly cooked. Desert was good too -- loved the pound cake...the tiramisu was good, not great. Menu is a bit pricey if it was not for restaurant week specials. Would try again for a special occasion."

"Great cheese and meat selection, as part of a cheese board. I loved the butter lettuce salad and Brussels sprouts. It was a bit loud, but over all very nice. Very glad to have made reservations. At the time we went, the wait was 2 1/2 hours without reservations."

"Great dinner and a great restaurant! We had a brithday celebration dinner for my wife -- 4 of us and we sat near the bar with a view to the open kitchen. It was busy, but our server was never late or took too long to get us drinks or refills and she was very knowledgeable about the bar and dinner menus."

"My husband and I had eaten at One Red Door a couple years ago but this time we took our three kids to an early dinner. Our kids are adventurous eaters and well behaved but sometimes nice places aren't exactly thrilled to see a gaggle of kids. But the service was great--our server even brought over a pitcher of Shirley Temples to keep our kids' drinks refreshed. We ordered a cheese board (with a wonderful aged goat cheese and a sharp white cheddar) and small plates (the carmelized scallops and the calamari served with a Thai peanut sauce and slaw, which was great) to share, as well as a pizza for our youngest, who tends to be pickier than the other two. Wonderful lobster roll and also the hanger steak with blue cheese spinach!"

"The overall atmosphere was gloomy in the poorly lit dining room, it was way past romantic lighting. The menu was nothing special and the food did not impress, in appearance or taste. We were there as part of our quest to visit many of the Plain Dealer's top 100 restaurants from the Friday Magazine (April 2012) but I think this place did not really qualify compared to the others we have had the pleasure to dine at."

"I think they need to update their menu and use more local and sustainable product. I ordered the noodles with scallops, tuna and calamari. The noodles were clumped together and there was not enough broth, veggies and the broth was luke-warm. The serving dish was wrong. The veggies that did come out looked like they had been left in the fridge for to long and exposed. I am actually surprised because I have been super pleased with meals eaten there in the past."

"A great place for a romantic dinner or in my case, lunch with a great friend. I called to arrange for two big red wines which would need to breathe. The first was opened at the table as soon as we arrived while the other was decanted. The service was attentive, impeccable and unobtrusive. The ambiance was clean & elegant but not stuffy. The menu had recently changed to a creative brunch menu fit for "foodies." We were told that if we wanted something other than the brunch menu, just ask. All the food was delicious, and we enjoyed an unhurried lunch with fantastic wine. I can't wait to take my wife there for a romantic dinner. An outstanding meal and service showed what fine dining can be at its unpretentious best."

"We had the ahi tuna taco and spring roll to start and the chicken and hanger steak for dinner. We loved everything we ate. The chicken was so well prepared and the sauce accompaniments were appropriate. We also had the German chocolate cake martini and Jamaican coffee and the drinks were strong and delicious. The entire meal was a bit pricey but we were splurging a bit because it was valentines day. We loved the service and atmosphere. We were a little close to the table next to us which was slightly uncomfortable at times."
