Fish Story, offering sustainable, seasonal, ocean-fresh seafood, is Lark Creek Restaurant Group's entry into the Napa Valley dining scene. "Good outside seating and a nice atmosphere. Nice wine list although one wine ordered was not delivered since it was not available and another had to be chosen. I had the scallops which was good but not great. Another had the trout which looked tasty and he ate every bite so he liked it. The service was friendly but slow. Too long for drinks to come out and when they didnt have the first wine it took forever for the replacement to be served. We ordered a dessert to share and it took about 20 minutes for a single slice of cheesecake to be brought out. Overall the food was liked and the place was nice but the slow service killed it for me.
I would reluctantly try again but there are so many good options in Napa it might be quite sometime."

"We had the scallops- which were superb, Salmon was delicious but could have used better and more substantial accompaniments (a little lettuce decorating on a bed of 4 asparagus just wasn't enough). The fish a chips were hearty, substantial, well prepared and delicious. The fries were home made, fresh and delicious. The calamari appetizer was a bit small but well prepared, lightly battered and delicious. Accompanying sauces are very good too.
The only disappointment was the service which was very slow, unpolished and surprising given past visits where the service has been excellent. Water came very late- we had been sitting for about 15-20 minutes. Bread was brought to the table in the middle of the meal when we were almost done."

"My wife and I had a great experience and two wonderful fish meals at Fish Story. If you visit Napa CA you owe it to yourself to visit this restaurant. The meals were great, the service was great... and if that is not enough reason to dine here, you can dine and feel good about eating at a restaurant that focuses on sustainable foods.
Eat, drink, and be happy with what you are doing for the earth."

"Best fish and chips I've had since London in 98. Great service. Halibut was cooked just right. Shrimp cocktail was plump and firm. The steamed spinach, however, has oil on it so tastes sautéed and so less healthy. Lemon cheesecake was creamy and delicious. Excellent spot for first time Napa visitors like us."

"We reserved a table for six for lunch on a Sunday after a lovely weekend in Napa and before heading to San Francisco to catch a flight. The restaurant was empty when we arrived at noon to meet the rest of our group. Bloody Mary's were excellent but it went down hill from there. I ordered the Bay Shrimp Louie, it was very bland...lot's of bibb lettuce very little avocado and bay shrimp and nothing else. Service took forever despite being the only ones in the restaurant."

"We made a reservation and showed up 15-20 min early, they were able to seat us right away. Cocktails were fresh and delicious, Caesar Salad was excellent and I had clam linguine, that was the special for the evening. Desserts were wonderful. Cracker Jack with caramelized bacon and caramel on vanilla ice cream. Over great experience."

"It was not it's cranked up to be. When it's crowded and busy at this pint in time (April) waiters don't pay enough attention to you which you would think they should. Especially at the prices that you are paying. Food was ver good, however the service was so lacking that it made yo very frustrated. to the point of leaving."

"The Open Table program is very efficient. Fish Story's reservation called to confirm my dinner date. Fish Story participated in the Earth Day Fair, ran out of specific foods; was disappointed. I thought both early placing reservation and early seating would provide me a nicer table instead of against the wall. Knowing Fish Story offers fresh ingredients which are excellent, but will not dine here where there be more chances of running out of food when they are part of an event where staff and food is apportioned."

"It was a busy Saturday night when we visited this restaurant. Staff was friendly and our waiter was excellent. He apologized about 10 times for no bread being brought to our table. He said the area (a little table next to the left side of the building next to a bridge) is a new outside dining area and the bread servers forget it is there. He spoke to the manager he said, but no bread ever came. Up until the point he brought our check, he apologized, but nothing he could do he said. Our meal was outstanding. The Taro chips with the ceviche were excellent. The shrimp and crab louie was the best I've ever had. The dressing is what made it so good, it wasn't a typical louie dressing. Scallops also were amazing, some of the best we've had."

"Food was very good but service was poor considering the high prices. I had to ask for bread several times and I noticed there was only two servers for around 10 tables, I got tired of calling the server over and over again to take our order and surprisingly neither the server or someone else could recommend us a bottle of wine. "This restaurant serves a very limited lunch menu on Sundays, unlike what is posted on OpenTable. The ahi tuna tartare was very good but that is where the positive experience ended. The oysters were fresh and would have delightful, had it not been for the crushed ice spilled into them. We ended up settling for a Louie salad and cod & chips for entrees, because of lack of better choices, and both turned out to be very disappointing. It explains why this restaurant, in spite of its prime location in Napa, was more than half empty for a Sunday lunch."

"Fresh seafood is the calling card. We had the Manhattan clam chowder which was delicious and fresh and the Spring-like artichoke and arugala salad to star. The roasted halibut was to die for. Soft serve Ice cream sundae with caramalized banana was decadent. Thoughtful Napa Valley-cenric wine list with lots iof discoveries. And, there are very nice people serving you. Winner!"

"We had a wonderful dinner at the Fish Story! There were 4 of us and we each got something different from the menu and shared it all. The Halibut was perfectly cooked, The Ahi Ahi Tartar was divine and the Scallops were very tasty on a bed of risotto. I would highly recommend it!"

"The food was amazing. The service was not comparable. The wait staff was spread thin, leading to spotty service. We only got our water refilled once because the busboy was busy delivering food. Our waiter forgot one of our drink orders and made a mistake on our first course, having to put a correction into the kitchen. The kitchen was short-handed (according to the manager) and as a result, the food was slow to come out. Luckily we didn't have somewhere to go afterwards as the dinner took forever. If you want good food, this is definitely the place to go; if you are on a schedule, definitely not."

"....walked out a couple months ago after sitting for 20 mins & no one came to our table at dinner time..only 2 or 3 tables were filled...reported it to Mgr or assist Mgr on way out..he apologized/said he'd get someone right away to take care of us but we left & said we'd try it again..& we did. Fast forward 2 months later..lunch time..about a doz tables filled...served right away..trout & clam chowder & salads & chicken dishes were delish...no problems!"

Just had a salad for a light lunch this visit, but well worth it. Have had a full dinner before that was really tasty. Excellent service, as usual. "Fish Story is an excellent restaurant with a varied and inventive menu. When we were there the other night, it was hard to choose between the many appetizing menu options. My party had the steamed mussels, the cioppino and the shrimp and crab salad. It was all delicious. Marchis half off bottle night, so we even splurged on a bottle of wine. "With a reservation, our party of 8 waited 15-20 minutes for a table. While waiting, we ordered a drink at the bar and in mid-order, the bartender tended to another customer and made us wait for the remainder of our drinks...not only rude, but who does that? The table waitress was great but obviously had too many tables. 10 minutes after we ordered we were told that the kitchen was out of the mahi mahi...really? A fish restaurant out of a fish entrée at about 8:45pm? From the time that we sat down, we were not served our dinner until 1 hour and 45 minutes later...REDICULOUS! Very good food, service lousy!"

"Really tasty food with TO DIE FOR DESSERTS! The lunch special was excellent and the fact they give you your choice of dessert from the menu is perfect for a ladies lunch which is why we went. Not sure if it's a regular Saturday thing, but all wine by the bottle was half price. The wine menu is varied and we found a great bottle of Sonoma Cutrer which cost us $21!!! We will be back and I'll be back also with my hubby next time."

"I had the small fish tower (oysters, clams, shrimp, cerviche), it was very fresh! My wife and a friend had Mahi Mahi, the fish was good but both complained about the risotto that came with it. I would go back for the beer, crab cakes (really really good!!) and to try the next size of the fish tower. Service was excellent. Very friendly staff."

"I have always wondered if the management ever puts themselves in the "shoes" of a patron who walks in, finds there are plenty of open tables and asks to be placed at a table by the window, only to be informed that those seats are "reserved" in advance and we didn't know that. Right off we felt like "chopped liver"! LOL And then, to add injury to insult, we were seated in a section where our server was just beginning to take food and drink orders from a large party. Yes, you guessed it. It took 12 minutes for her to come by and greet us and offer us water and a drink. And longer for us to get it. Not acceptable service."

"Delicious, foodie-worthy dinner without breaking the bank. We enjoyed the 50% discount on bottles of wine (good for the month of March), along with oysters and, of course, fish entrees. I had grilled mahi mahi with potato "risotto" that was a perfect compliment to the tender fish. Hubby loved the seared ahi with lentils. Vanilla bean soft serve with candied almonds for dessert. "The Lark Creek Group normally does a great job with their establishments. Fish Story has a great location on the Napa River, serves good food but seems to lack management. It took nearly 30 minutes after the completion of our very good soup before the entrees arrived. The waitress stopped by to apologize for the kitchen delay and gave us more bread. She made sure our wine glasses were full but wine ran out before the entree arrived. Not once did the management staff come by. Disappointing. Next time I am in Napa I will give them a second chance, after all everyone can have a bad night."

"We had one of the booth tables (which we requested through our Open Table reservation) so it was easy to carry on a conversation. All wines were half off which made it well worth it to order from their menu instead of bringing our own wine and paying corkage. We enjoyed a great bottle of Kistler Chardonnay. Oysters to start were delicious and so was the crab cioppino entree and vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce for dessert. My husband ordered an after dinner brandy and the waiter brought him a bowl of hot water so he could warm it. It made it very smooth. The waiter was from Dallas and told us it was something he had learned there. Nice touch. We will definitely need to make a return to Fish Story."
