At DOC we embrace the Italian tradition of Denominazione di Origine Controllata, celebrating the quality, sense and very taste of this place that we call home. Chefs Jobie Bailey and Brian Scibetta create weekly menus that reflect their love for the seasonal flavors of Oregon. The freshest local produce, wild forages and organic, pasture-raised meats from our favorite area farms are thoughtfully paired with outstanding wines and delicate cocktails to please and delight. A meal at DOC is an intimate experience. We invite you literally to step into our kitchen so that you can see your meal crafted from beginning to end by our passionate chefs. Our wine list takes its cue from the kitchen and is tastefully selected by wine steward Austin Morris Bridges. At just $60 our 5-course tasting menu is an impressive and incredible deal. A table of 4 can experience nearly every item on the menu and, with an additional $40, all of the suggested wine pairings. We look forward to seeing you soon.

"This place nails it when it comes to dinner. They have really set up a unique experience for their guests. You really felt like you had discovered a secret location being that you enter through the kitchen before making it to your table. I loved that I was eating a high class meal while listening to hip hop artist Atmosphere. Seems like it should not work but it does. The food was absolutely incredible. These are very talented chefs. The waitstaff was very attentive and gave us recommendations for other places based on the dishes that we enjoyed the most. Another hidden gem in NE that really reminds you what upscale dining is supposed to be."

"Food and drink-wise, this place has become one of my top five restaurants in Portland. And overall, we received really good service. Our only complaint is that when I arrived (ahead of my group), the server didn't walk me to our table, but rather, she nodded to the back and informed me that our table was the last one on the right; it's always in the details that make a something great."

"The food was very good. We decided to get the tasting plate. The plates were small, but they added up over time and it ended up being a lot of food. We sat on the front patio and had a wonderful evening. It was definitely an evening to remember."

"You'd never know it! We decided to have an important business meeting to introduce a new concept and team. We had heard great things about DOC. The weather was great so we ended up sitting outside. The team at DOC took over from their recommending we shose from the menu or they could serve up their planned menu for the evening. We took their recommendations including wine and felt like we were in a cafe setting and not a business session. Marvelous food. We had the manager select the wine and he follow a progression that improved with each bottle! We start with a great French Rose and ended with a marvelous Italian red. I can't remember how many in between...
I travel and enterain I found the quality exception at a great price."

"This is a very small wonderful restaurant and I hesitate to give it the glowing recommendation it deserves because then everyone will try to go there and it will be harder to get in!!! Chef''s menu is the best way to go - multiple courses, good variety of dishes, everything is tasty and fabulous. You can order ala carte, but its not as interesting or exciting. Impeccable service. Wines are always interesting and their specialty is Italian wines. Their sommelier is very knowledgable. I also like that its relatively quiet, so its possible to have a good conversation."

"DOC is like no other restaurant in Portland. One enters through a small yet very functional kitchen to get to the dining area, which is equally small and seats about 20-24 diners.
The menu is small compared to many other places yet well organized . On any given night there is a choice of 3 " entrees"
The primi has a few choices of salads or small plates.
The Gnudi was well prepared and very tasty, 3 of the four in our group had it and the other dish chosen was cod. All were tastefully prepared and presented .
This was my second trip to DOC and I was very impressed with the quality of food and service."

"Excellent food, but table service hit or miss. We served by several different personnel, who were either really friendly/helpful or completely impatient with us. We ordered a bottle of wine and the tasting menu for four people, which offered a diverse variety of dishes. Unfortunately, dishes were hastily delivered, announced rapidly without care or attention to our gluten intolerant guest. We left full of good food, but quite confused about why our server was so displeased with our table."

"We like to try special restaurants with our friends so choose DOC based on the reviews and reputation. We are "foodies" and all very good cooks in our own rights. The food was disappointing at DOC as was the service. Worst was the fishy,congealed,over cayennedcrab risotto followed closely by the bland sauceless pork roast oddly paired with raw rhubarb leaves. The apple salad had greens so peppery and tough that we could not eat it. Service consisted of taking our order, trying to pour more wine so we would buy more but NEVER asking how our food was. We sent the risotto back. We left without trying dessert so as not to ruin the rest of the evening.Went to Salt and Straw for wonderful ice cream."

"Walking through the kitchen to be seated is so fun. There is nothing normal about their menu. I felt I needed an interpreter for nearly every word on the menu, however. The staff was fantastic but I resorted to my iPhone for definitions. Having said that, everything we all had was delicious! Bring your eyeglasses. The wine list is extensive and very small print."

"We decided to try DOC for our anniversary. We were in no hurry, so had the tasting menu with wine pairings. It was Truly Extraordinary. In a city full of great food, DOC is hovering at the rarefied top of the list. The service was attentive, the kitchen leisurely. The next course was never put on the table before the last was savored and removed. (I'm still dreaming of crab risotto.) The server explained each dish and the provenance of the wine that accompanied it, even bringing us a wine list highlighting the wines we'd enjoyed. We will return with pleasure, and I'm having the risotto. A tip to the hearing impaired: the noise level in this crowded venue is sufficient to give privacy without making you strain to hear your tablemates."

"I love the ambience of this restaurant! I have never seen a restaurant where you enter into the kitchen. It is literally an open kitchen which is a part of the restaurant. Two younger, happy, talented guys (Chef & Sous Chef) run the kitchen dressed in plaid shirts and jeans. Two servers serve the entire under 30 seat restaurant, and make your cocktails. And then there is one dishwasher. You can actually see all of the back of the house stuff happen right in front of your eyes. We sat at a communal table and had fun meeting the other diners, but still felt we could have our own private meal. The food was great, with some dishes being amazing like the gnudi. There was a lot of wine if you do the wine pairings. I'd definitely go back."

"Great food. The service comes off as a bit pretentious. They like a lot of things their way or the highway. Overall it was great but be prepared to spend some $ as not only is the food VERY expensive so are all of the cocktails and wine. I would only go back for a special occasion."

"I love this place! Love it. Love it. BUT, this was the first time I've felt a bit overlooked a bit in service. We had a sweet, romantic table at the back (for our anniversary) and the management was considerate in that we had to cancel our first reservation (a week early) and reschedule at the last minute due to some health issues. We so appreciated that. Normally when we do the wine flight we get superior service and regular check-ins. Because we simply drank wine by the glass, I found myself having to catch the wait staff here and there to ask for refills, coffee and, eventually, an after-dinner drink. I think we got a little ignored and overlooked. First time ever - usually service is amazing. Still love it and will be back!"

"Cozy, charming, and unbelievable food. I had the best oysters of my life - Tilamook Sweets. The cavatelli did not disappoint. And the pork belly with kimchi kale was another mouth watering dish that came across our plates, in addition to a number of others that were equally as delicious and memorable. Baccala, anyone?! Oh, and the wine pairings were perfect as well.
We didn't have time for the prix fixe menu, but I would go for this next time around. You get to basically try just about everything on the menu for $60 - can't beat that. Go check this place out immediately. It's a killer spot. Great food and meticulous service in a comfortable environment. Thanks, Jobie et al!"

"this is a small, quaint and quiet restaurant. The waitstaff was super helpful in guiding wine choices to go with our food. The menu is very creative. I love how you walk through the kitchen, so on the way out you could thank the chef's personally for such good food! It is a bit on the more pricey side, so this won't be a regular place for us to come, but more for special occasions (tonight was my wife's birthday). overall, I would recommend this place to friends."

"Enchanting space, you walk through the kitchen to get to the small dining room, I was delighted to be told you can wait in the kitchen while we finish setting up your table. We opted for the tasting menu with wine pairings. An ala carte menu is also available. The tasting menu was a great choice - it gave us a taste of 8 different menu items as well as bread, olives and an amazing butter from the Rogue Creamery - perfectly salted - DELISH!!! The wine pairings were well thought out and highlighted each course as you would expect.
Dining at DOC is more an experience than a meal, plan to take in the activity in the kitchen, enjoy the sounds and aromas, good company and you won't be disappointed!!"

"Place reservation for two and they sit us on the corner of the communal table with a birthday party. Went w chefs choice and it was overall disappointing. Entres were uninspired and barely seasoned. Servers pretty much ignored us and we felt rushed when the dishes did finally show up. For $$$ you can do much better in Portland."

"Excellent food, highly recommend the 5 course tasting menu—we tried courses that normally we wouldn't consider and they were show stoppers! The staff was very attentive and considerate, even checking food-allergies/dietary restrictions before we ordered."

"Quite over priced for the money. It does not have enough sophistication in to be at this price range.
The preparations lacked debth and were too similar in taste from one course to the next.
The server could not tell me the name of the wines open and no details were given . I had no way to make selections either.
With only 7 tables there is a nice quite feeling but the so called wine Stuart twice knocked over and shattered wine glasses . One table had their wine all over."

"The atmosphere at DOC is wonderful for a special date night out. Don't order the Chef's menu if you have more than 2-4 in your group - it is expensive, and compared to other places in town, the portions are small... we had a group of 6 and most of us left hungry, and we even consumed 2 servings of bread during our meal. Any dish that has lemon in it - be ready to pucker up!!"

"I really loved eating at DOC. This extremely cozy, small restaurant has you walk through the open kitchen to the dining area, and the service I received was absolutely stellar, with one exception (They charged me for the wine pairing, which I didn't get, accidentally...and I didn't notice until I had left. Oops!) -- I had the tasting menu, which was served to me very quickly but not in a way that made me feel rushed. It was a real pleasure sitting near the kitchen and watching them cook and prep the food! And the food itself was stellar, each dish subtly complementing the other and the presentation masterful yet homey as well. I am very impressed with the style of this restaurant!"

"Great place for 'foodies'. A bit pretentious for my taste, and the group tables are way too tight...especially for the price of the food. But the food is great and the atmosphere is cool. Had a great risotto and steak. Oysters were nice but tiny. My wife's main dish looked cool, but 5 large ricotta balls seem more like an app than a main course. Good, but not great."

"From the moment you walk through the door and find yourself in the kitchen, you know you are in for a special experience. This is a small, intimate space where you can actually have hear your dinner conversation while enjoying the wonderful flavors of the food served here. The 4 members of our party ordered the tasting menu and there was plenty of food, even for me, the lone vegetarian. The service was incredible with attention to every detail yet the feeling remained very intimate. A wonderful experience from soup to nuts!"

"My boyfriend and I celebrated our two year anniversary here and it couldn't have been a better experience! "We recently returned from a trip to Italy & when I was looking for a special place to take us back if only in our mind, well I could nt have painted a better picture. The ambiance was spot on from the simple but elegant furnishings to the Northwest meets Italy cuisine. The food was fresh like the NW but flavored with the essense of a true italian dinner. I would highly recommend for a special occasion or to share with a fellow foodie."

"Absolutely fantastic food & great, attentive service. We each ordered the tasting menu which meant sampling about 10 different courses. Lovely innovative flavor pairings, especially enjoyed the sharp lemon and chili in the crab risotto and the butter nut sauce on the halibut. The one thing that kept the experience from being outstanding was the presence of an obnoxiously loud group of 5 at the communal table. Their volume and selfishness nearly ruined the night for the rest of the room - it's a tiny space. Wish the management had done something to address the issue. Otherwise, a great restaurant."
