"I went by myself on a Thursday night and the place looks cool to me and the food is good. However, there is a serious flaw in service that will make me think twice about other options before I visit again.
It was 7pm and a few big groups were hanging out in door and out door. Immediately I was left waiting at the front door for 5 min without anybody recognizing my presence. Then everything was kind of on the slow mode because there were only 2 waitress serving the whole place. Was not told until quite a while later that the beer I ordered ran out and it took another long wait til I finally got my drink... it actually came when I am at least 1/3 into my entree! I find it hard to convince myself to take my friends here."

"We were a party of four, and I was the only one who had not been there. We had a very long wait, as if our order had not been put in, when we got the food, it was pretty good, my salad nicoise though was nothing special sadly, it could have been better made by me at home. The hostess did offer to comp some things as we had such a long wait, people who had come in after us ate and were already gone...which was very nice, but that was countered by our server coming by and saying thanks and sorry that our food did not come out when we thought it should, hmmm... Based on this experience, I will not go back."

"I had late lunch with my girlfriend. The food was very good, my tuna nicoise was perfectly done and had some special ingredients, it looked so beautiful I took a picture and sent to my boyfriend. My friend had the mushroom burger and shared some of her mushroom fries, which came with a creamy aioli. Can be addicting.... It was quiet at the hour we were there, but I can assume it would be noisier when very busy due to the decor. It is whimsical, with menus that look like grammar school assignments. Our server was personable and sweet, but the service was very casual.

"Went for lunch on a Friday. It was one of those situations where service slow because they were really, really busy due to work day lunch rush. I would highly recommend reservations during this time. At least the server was nice and apologetic so they deserve credit for that. Had their burger and it was definitely delicious. However, the burger didn't quite fill out the bun so I'm still undecided as to whether or not it's worth doing again especially for how much you pay. I'm curious to try their brunch and dinner and like the fact that they allow dogs on the patio so it's worth a revisit for that."

The crab on muffin dish was good but needed more salty flavor (tobiko or gomocasia as suggestions ;) and the sweet potato dessert was outstanding. Kelly ? (Asian/probably Japanese) was so awesome! "Lunch and Dinner menus are different, and chef cannot accomodate to prepare dinner items during lunch even if you know what's on the dinner menu. The $1 oysters are a disaster, very small and didn't look fresh (on a weekend brunch). This is the 2nd time I've tried the $1 oysters. Not kids friendly and no diaper changing areas. Good for weekday lunch and dinner. The crab benedict did not have much crab meat on it and tasted bland. The crab brandade was good, but very small portion. Baby Eryngii Fries was very tasty."

"Skool is fantastic. Very creative seafood dishes that are also satisfying (AKA good portions despite being delicate/tasty). Cocktails are 1st rate and the restaurant is overall quiet, with great service. Not super cheap, but if you are looking for a solid meal SF can def. stand up to the top group."

"Fabulous food. I love that they have sake on the menu as well as wine. Everything we had was excellent, particularly the sardines on the fish sampler, the crudo, and the crab brandade.
Also enjoyed our server who was exceptionally knowledgeable about both the wine and sake lists.
Went with a friend who has to eat gluten free - how exceptional that you have a gluten free menu.
Definitely 5 stars!"

"This is a great spot for brunch, lunch or dinner. Great ambiance, great for dogs (we bring our puppy and sit outside), amazing cocktails and great food. Some of the menu items are so-so, but some are amazing... Definitely try the Baby Eryngii Fries (so good), the Squid Ink Spagghetina, the Ichibo & Eggs (for brunch) and the Panko Fried Fish Sandwich (for lunch). The service is impeccable here."

"My review would be a lot higher had they honored our reservations and had a table ready for us. Instead, we had to sit at the bar and wait for 30 minutes. To her credit, every 10 minutes or so, hostess would come over and apologize saying she was "giving looks" to the couple who had paid but just kept sitting at the table. While these kinds of things do happen, the restaurant should not have booked reservations to close together and/or could have put us at a larger (open) table. She said she did not want to do so because that table was also reserved and there would be no other options for the larger party, but it was still open when we sat and when we left, so I'm guessing the "large party," if they existed, was a no-show."

"I dined at Skool two times within two months. Both meals were delicious! We all enjoyed our meals immensely. Plus the aisles between the tables were wide enough that the toddler with us could walk around without getting in people's way. A great place for a celebration or a casual evening out with friends. I will be back!"

"Lobster roll (add avocado & bacon!) was delicious, and the eryngii mushroom fries are super tasty, a little weird, but tasty. And they make a mean Arnold Palmer! The little cups of soup w/ lunch are a nice touch. Service is always top notch."

"Expensive for the quality and service. I ordered the lunchbox and tried the fried mushrooms that everyone recommends. They were much too salty. The fried fish sandwich was ok, but not worth $14. The toasted brioche that it was served on was not a good choice: each bite would end in a shower of crumbs. It would be better not toasted.
Service started out ok and welcoming when I arrived. When the waitress realized I was dining alone, it seemed she decided to devote her attention to tables with more people...not cool."

"I took my wife to Skool hoping the food would please her highly developed and selective taste. She was raised in the very exclusive suburb of Ginza in Tokyo. She has eaten in the most exclusive restaurants in Japan. She is a stickler for freshness and taste, possessing a very educated palate.
So, how did she like Skool? FANTASTIC - it was everything I had hoped for her - the food, staff and service were excellent in every respect.
