Bringing the freshest seafood to Silicon Valley, McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant is located adjacent to the Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose. Situated central to San Jose landmarks and businesses, McCormick & Schmick's is across the street from Plaza de Cesar Chavez and within easy walking distance to the Convention Center, Civic Auditorium and the Museum of Art.

"Dining experience was excellent; we were greeted warmly at the hostess station, seated immediately and our waiter appeared within seconds thereafter. We enjoyed excellent appetizers, absolutely delicous entres and we found a bottle of fine wine from a wide selection to complement our dinner. Our waiter's recommendations were thoughtful, he was couteous, well informed and thoroughly professional. The service was superior in every respect and the ambience was best in class. Our waiter, the hostess and the manager thanked us upon departure. It was a memorable evening."

"If you want to go out for dinner and be forgotten this is the place for you. We were never properly tended to due to a forgetful server. Our server said he wasn't used to the restaurant being so busy, but it wasn't like he was attending every table there he had four. Also, we were never given complimentary bread until we asked, only because we noticed all the other tables receiving bread. His reaction was that bread was being freshly made, but we had been sitting at the our table before others who had gotten their bread. When he did bring it out, it did not taste warm and fresh. Skip the chain and find another place for seafood!"

"My family treated me to Mother's Day at M&S. My teenagers were happy with the gourmet burgers, my husband swooned over his salmon rigatoni, and I loved my parmesan crusted sole. Our side soup and salads were also scrumptious. The service was prompt and polite, our booth was comfortable and had a view out a window, and we didn't feel rushed. We chose the mid-afternoon to avoid the biggest crowds on Mother's Day. My only criticism was that I couldn't swap out my side dish for roasted vegetables, because they weren't allowing substitutions due to the holiday crowds; I could understand this, but we were there at a relatively slow time with lots of empty tables. Overall, a delicious meal and a very pleasant dining experience."

"Ticket holders for SJ CPA - great place to have dinner before the show. Let your server know you are attending the theatre (show time 7:30) and you can start at 6 finish at 7:15 with time to walk over to the theatre. If you have more time - then loiter longer and have dessert.

"My family & I have been going to M & S for more than a few years, & we've noticed that the food quality has gone down. While Saturday's meal wasn't as bad as the meal I had a couple of months ago, it still wasn't quite up to par. My husband & I dined off the spring menu. We picked the crab/shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer. While the wrappers were cooked well, nice & crispy, the rolls could have been drained a bit more. There was a pool of deep-fry oil on our plate. My husband & I both had the trio of fish: salmon, shrimp, sea bass. The sea bass was almost cold & too chewy. I told the server that we didn't want that horrible fruit cobbler for dessert (had that last time - totallly awful), so I opted for cheesecake. It was ok."

"Two friends from Texas went with me. When her steak came to the table it was charred. She took one look and said it better be medium rare inside. It was and she reported it to be delicious. He ordered swordfish, one of his favorites which he only eats in California. He was very happy with it. I had crab-stuffed prawns. They were ok; not the greatest. A little fishy and the stuffing was a little lackluster. One of my favorites there is the beet arugula salad. It didn't disappoint."

"Reception at the front desk was alright, but not to the level you would expect at a high end restaurant. Junior staff did not seem to know what they were doing. Her manager did not seem to know much more, and 90% of the time was spent looking at the monitor as opposed to keeping contact with the customers.
I took the sole, which unfortunately reminded me more of a McDonald's hash brown than a proper sole. It was "nothing to write home about"! I would advice the chef to mark it clearly on the menu. In addition, even at $19.95 it was pricey."

"Service was great, but the food was not worth the price. I had to settle for a filet Mignon when they told me they were out of the ribeye. The filet, which I swear was not an actual filet, was cooked properly, but was really tough and not very flavorful. The broccolini(sp) was under cooked and cold. The seafood was tasty though. The restaurant was busy for a Tuesday night, but it was very noisy inside. Our service was outstanding from the reception to the end."

"Food was outstanding and service matched. Our waiter, Joseph, sought assistance from kitchen for our specific needs, in this case potentially deadly food allergies. Sommelier was especially helpful in selection of wines to match our tastes. Excellent wine list with a complete cost range. An excellent dining experience that justified the cost.
Also, we had a small private room with a table for eight that eliminated most of the noise. I hope we got it because of the Open Table reservation"

"I'm a big fan of McCormick & Schmick's--and I've written a couple of very good reviews here for two sister restaurants in San Francisco (McCormick & Kuleto's) and Sacramento. But our experience at the San Jose venue was deeply disappointing. Our waiter seemed both hurried and distracted. To begin with, he was clearly perturbed when we told him that a different waitstaffer had already taken our drink order. Once he had taken our meal order, we did not see or hear from him again for at least twenty minutes.
When our meal did finally arrive, my blackened chicken pasta contained chicken that was tough, not blackened, and with overdone, sticky pasta.
Overall, a rare miss from a chain that usually executes very well."

"Waitress was slow to bring service and then so hurried to get our order that she'd be walking away w/o repeating or double checking our status.Our food including the special was unremarkable. The spring special sea bass with tadashi sauce- the sauce didn't have any flavor. Bisque was good though. Whoever opened the oysters had no idea what they were doing, had shell bits and one was very chopped up when opened. Cedar salmon also unremarkable."

"I enjoyed dining here. Since we went early on a Saturday night, we had, at least, 30 minutes of quiet. When the crowd came, it got very noisy, but still more tolerable than many other restaurants in the area.
I do not eat seafood, but savored the chicken and linguine entry. I would be delighted to dine here a again."

"We went here for my birthday lunch. Of all places in San Jose I picked this one. We went here before Landry's owned it and the service was awful. I wanted to give them another chance since I know that Landry owned restaurants that I have gone to I have always had good service. Our server Joseph was wonderful and very attentive. The hostess on the other hand has something to learn in greeting customers. I was very disappointed with our first impression. When a hostess is the first impression of a restaurant she was awful. If I wasn't so hungry I probably would of left."

"Very good experience until we got to the end of our meal. At 6:55pm, having about 20 min until we had to leave for the theater, we put in our dessert order. At 7:04, with no desserts yet on the table, I asked for the check so that we could just eat and dash for the theater - the server said that the desserts were coming right out. She dropped the check 2 minutes later. At 7:16 she showed up with our desserts, which there was no way we had time to eat. We asked her to return them for the time delay and remove them from the bill. She left and came back 2 min later with a new bill and we then had to flag her down to pay."

"We chose McCormick & Schmick's because they always put on a great "special occasion" brunch. Once again, they did not disappoint in most areas. Our arrival time was 1:15 pm & we were promptly seated by a friendly & welcoming staff. Joseph, our waiter, was exceptional & outstanding! He treated us as his guests and rather than just another table, especially in the face of a very heavy workload. His service, knowledge, and manner were all “over the top’ and unexpected! This was very positively noted & appreciated by ALL seven of us at the table.

"This was one of the worst dining experiences I remember. We have been to McCormick & Schmick's about five years ago and the food as well as service was much, much better. Right now, it is actually worse than chain seafood restaurants but at a high price.
Fish was overcooked - especially the very well done Albacore Tuna (I asked for rare). It was the first time we have ever sent a dish back! Mashed potatoes were a thick, sticky, glistening goo-not tasty, fluffy potatoes you'd expect. Service was even worse -- we had to ask for bread multiple times, and when I complained about my tuna being well done, the waitress said "that is how they always do it" and "it may take a while" when I asked for another one. We won't be going back any time soon"

"McCormick & Schmick's Seafood was no better or worse than expected. For a corporate formula restaurant they were OK. The food was good and well prepared. There was a hint of "fresh & local" but only a hint. The menu was a definitive example of a corporate restaurant menu. The menu gave the appearance of innovation without going out on a limb. There were no specific negatives but also, no specific positives. Service was less than perfect but not bad.
It is worth considering if there is no better local independent available. In the Bay Area there are many, many other choices."

"We are never disappointed when we go to McCormick & Schmick's. They wait staff is friendly and efficient, the food is delicious, and our experience is positive. We were disappointed to see they had chosen go remove the private tables with velvet curtains, probably in an attempt to look more modern, but our waiter got is into the Godfather Room, which more than made up for it. It was our son's 11rh birthday, which we had indicated in our online reservation, so they had printed up special menus with "Happy Birthday" on them. It's the little touches that make the difference between a good and a great experience."

"The food is generally very good, as it was on this visit. The service however leaves much to be desired. The restaurant wasn't even busy. We never received the bread we requested, which happened last time we dined here also. I received my glass of wine after my first course of soup and it wasn't even the correct glass of wine either. I used to work in the hospitality industry and it is disappointing this location seems to be so challenged finding, training good waitstaff. I'm befuddled by what may be wrong with their operations. I don't know what to make of it, but keep your expectations low in regards to the service and you won't be disappointed."

"My high expectations went down on my favorite restaurant...TOO BAD!!!! I was early for my reservation so they offered me a table at the lounge area... Bad move!!!!!!!!!Very disappointed.. My waitress had no interaction with us, we had to ask for bread, we were not asked if our food was ok...When I asked her for bread, she said Oh I know... WHAT??????
We did not see her at all other than when she brought our meal and when the gentlemen at the next table waved his hand to get her attention because he was experiencing the same "service" Oh I did see her when she brought check!!!! I was so disappointed I skipped desert...

"This place used to be so much better. They have increased seating and switched to fluorescent lighting. The restaurant is much more reminiscent of an overpriced red Lobster now. Really sad.
That said the food was still good and the service was acceptable. Will not likely be returning for an evening with my wife any time soon."

"We had a 4:30 p.m. reservation and we were seated earlier. The food was great! I had the pacific swordfish. The waitress was wonderful! Remembered our orders and who ordered what. "I generally eschew chains but was looking for a slightly upscale restaurant in downtown San Jose.
We ordered two entrees, Cedar roasted atlantic salmon with a berry reduction and shrimp stuffed with lumped crab. We also ordered a side dish, baked gruyere potatoes. The salmon portion was generous but didn't give much hint of the cedar roasting. More of the berry reduction on the side would have made up for the rather bland salmon. The lump crab on the large shrimp was plentiful but also lacking in flavor.
Except for the mediocre bread, our meal was perfectly acceptable but nothing was exceptional or adventurous. It was what you would expect of an upscale chain: large portions of relatively simple food for a reasonable price."

"Got there early (5:00PM) because we were going to a hockey game. As a result we were one of the first in the dining room, which kept the noise level down, although I don't ever recall a noisy crowd at this establishment. Service, as always, was attentive and excellent. Had the Atlantic Salmon and my wife had the scallops. Both were prepared well and tasty. Have never been disappointed at any of the McCormick and Schmicks."
