Chef Michael Mina has returned to where it all began! Mina’s eponymous restaurant has reopened at 252 California Street and was named Restaurant of the Year 2011 by Esquire Magazine. With a brand new menu and a fresh concept, restaurant MICHAEL MINA provides casual, warm service with the educated flair of the West Coast. The restaurant’s cuisine features Michael Mina’s sensibilities with Japanese ingredients and French influence. The dinner menu is a la carte with the option to have the chef cook for your table. The wine list at restaurant MICHAEL MINA features an eclectic collection of small, boutique, American wineries as well as celebrated French and European vineyards.

"I eat out a lot and consider myself well informed about food and wine. I had the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. I was on a business trip and dined alone. From the moment I walked in I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. I was seated at a perfect table near a window. Server and captain (Giovanni) checked repeatedly but unobtrusively to make sure I was happy with everything. And what a meal! From my specialty cocktail to my last sip of desert wine every taste was extraordinary. I won't list all the dishes since every single bite including the bread was an indication that nothing leaves that kitchen unless it is perfect."

"This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco--it is reliable with excellent food and wine list. Their signature dishes remain just that--signature in a way that can not be copied by other high end restaurants. I highly recommend this location for both business dinners and personal social events. The valet parking which starts at 5:30 p.m. is also very convenient."

everything was incredible - the service, the wine, the food, the interaction with the service. just incredible. i felt like we got every penny's worth from our dinner and then some. i asked about the wine and got an envelope with some other recommendations of similar wines i could try to find more cheaply when i was out wine shopping. the explanation of the food preparation and the recommendations were perfect. this is what fine dining and special occasion eating is all about. i really felt like i was appreciated for choosing to eat there!"

"On a scale of 1 to 10, the later being the highest, Michael Mina rates a 7.5 to 8. The ambience on Sunday night around 7pm is not beautiful or unique. Standard "nice". It is not a warm restaurant. Perhaps modern. The waiters were pleasant but again "neutral".
The starter was ahi tuna which is not the same delicacy when MM was the chef for Acqua. Too much hot sauce that kills the subtle flavors of sashimi. As for main course of halibut with cepes (delicious), it was beautifully presented though the plate was large. Try to imagine the same dish at La Follie by the artist Roland Passot. Deserts were $12 each and very light but again beautifully presented. The ice cream was bay leaf flavor.
Guest are too casually dressed for fine dining."

"I enjoyed my dining experience at MM's. The food is very good and of the highest quality and the service likewise. The dishes are very creative, perhaps to a fault. When dining at establishments like MM's I sometimes feel my choices are significantly limited by some of the strange combinations and I certainly felt that way about the cuisine at MM's. If I loved polenta, sea urchin and the like, my experience might have been heightened. I appreciate that other diners may be more excited by such choices."

"One of the few places I have been in San Francisco that felt very "Manhattan."
Excellent food and very crisp service. The dining room is quite large with high ceilings and the decor is modern. The bar looked busy from our seats.
As it was a Saturday night every other table in our section (near the front) was a birthday party but there were a number of large dinner parties out on the floor. There were many relatively young diners (50% of the room was probably in their thirties) making for an energetic feel.
One of the best restaurants in San Francisco."

"The food was g ood, but not outstanding. Especially compared to the any excellent restaurants in the area. The biggest problem was that they got our check wrong and took 20 minutes to correct it. It was wrong in a different way, but we paid it and decided to work it out amng ourselves, as we were now late or the theater. Even so, we missed the first act. And yes, we told them earlier that we had to be at the theater."

"Fantastic meal. For my taste, the service errs — just a little — on the side of being both too relaxed and too intrusive, but the food, all eleven courses of it (the nine-course tasting menu with some bonuses), was impeccable, as were the wine pairings. I wish it were not so noisy, but that was the only jarring element of the dining experience."

"I went to Michael Mina's for lunch with a coupla friends. I previously had dinner there a few weeks back with my girlfriend and friends. The interior is very cool, the service is excellent, the food is excellent, and the drinks were excellent. There's no ambiance in any personal sense, other than it's a good and cool place to eat. Sadly I found the fat on the Pork Belly fell far short of the deliciousness that I order Pork Belly for - in fact it was inedible. On the other hand: the crab cakes, tuna tartare and London Breakfast cocktail were fantastic, happily."

"Lunch was very nice. The highlight was the snapper with lobster ravioli, where the flavors worked together in a way that I wish I had thought of. The "on a whim" cocktail (i.e mixologist's choice) was a great idea, and paired admirably with the food. The service was attentive but discreet--overall an exceptional meal."

"The wagyu beef was definitely the highlight of the night: super rich, delicious flavour (very pricey, but worth it). Also enjoyed the oyesters and impressive accompanying dressings. Suckling pig was ok, have had better else where. Complimentary favoursome soup with mini cheese toast took comfort food to a whole new level whilst the complimentary desert delivered a party of flavours in my mouth. Also enjoyed the wine. Great table service: friendly and knowledgable waiter."

"We had a magical meal. The menu was extensive and so we decided to have the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. What fun! Each tasting was unique and enhanced by a perfectly paired wine.
