“The Godfather of Nuevo Latino Cuisine” and James Beard Award winning Chef Douglas Rodriguez announces the relocation of his signature restaurant De Rodriguez Cuba to Miami Beach’s chic South of Fifth neighborhood. Serving his acclaimed Cuban fare in the Hilton Bentley South Beach location, De Rodriguez Cuba on Ocean will host guests ready to feast on ‘the best of the best’ from Chef Rodriguez.
"Was a huge fan of Patria in New York in the 90's in NYC, remember it closing, and was thrilled to find the talented chef/owner Douglas Rodriguez at this restaurant during a search of top restaurants on vacation in Miami Beach. Torn between the ceviches and the fish tacos, went with the fish tacos, which were ridiculously delicious, put on your bucket list, may have to go back for to try a ceviche, and the crunchy Cuban salad was one of the best salads I have ever had. Went in the nouvelle direction with the fois gras and fig empanadas and more traditional with the pork belly. Everything was flawless. Beware, the portions are tremendous, not your typical tapas size appetizers, so we went home with today's lunch. Great cocktails as well"

"Romantic dinner with my wife out by the pool, very pleasant a quite in contrast to South Beach's regular din. The food and drink were fantastic, best meal while we were visiting."

"We thought we'd give Cuban food another chance after the disaster at Lario's a few nights before. And, again we were very disappointed. My hubby ordered a dish they called pot roast and I ordered the skirt steak. We were shocked to see and taste that the meat in both dishes was exactly the same. It looked like they took the pot roast meat and tried to cut it up to look like skirt steak. Bummed!"

"Chef Rodriguez has reimagined traditional Cuban dishes, using yuca in creative ways, for example, and added South American-inspired dishes, like marlin tacos. It works well. The crispy salad was crunchy, flavorful, and large, one of the most interesting salads we've ever had. A shrimp and okra stew over tamales, with just a bit of pork to give them a Cuban flair, were rich and flavorful. A vegetarian yuca and mushroom dish was very good, but not quite up to the rest of the meal. The setting indoors is nice, quiet, tables not too close to each other, and there are outside tables as well. Most of these overlook the uninteresting hotel pool, however, and therefore are not very enticing. Our waiter and the other staff were excellent."

"Ate at De Rodriguez Cuba on May 19th, dinner. Had their tasting menu. Couple of nice dishes, but for the most part a case of a chef trying to be too fancy and over reaching. Most of the dishes we tried were great on the menu but lousy in the mouth.
Wouldn't recommend."

"We enjoyed the food very much. Cuban with an American twist. Fish Tacos were awesome appetizer, Fried Plaintains were also delish. Skirt Steak and Chilean Sea Bass were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Location not very pretty, looks like it is in the part of South Beach that is being restored and updated."

"We choose what I thought would be specialty dishes, but they were not very special. The best part was the ceviche! Wine poor was not very generous and should have been given the price. Waiter was very helpful; however, but I think we just picked the wrong dishes. They ran out at a very early hour of one of the special appetizers."

"dined with family there, service was attentive and friendly, and food was ok (well cooked and big portions) but overall experiance nothing special. lacks a bit ambiance, no stylish people, no hotspot, no special tasty food that makes it worth a special dining evening."

"Service was typical of South Beach- very poor. Server mentioned specials only to half of our party and didn't repeat it when the other half came back. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks. The first time they took a drink order, they only asked for one of us at the party for drinks and didn't ask the others. When asked if we wanted dessert, the menu wasn't even given to us. Then we had to search for the server to pay the bill."

"Good interpretation of Cuban food. Service was rather amateurish but could have been isolated to just our server. Food was flavorful and well presented. Would certainly recommend it."

"Disappointed. Food was OK at best. Music was loud. Service was very good in that the waiter was polite, pleasant, and responsive. Ambience is nice. If the food was good, the place would be packed."

"My experience at De Rodriguez Cuba was excellent! The food, service, and ambiance exceeded my expectations. Most of all, the food presentation blew me away! Perfect restaurant for a night on the town or celebrating a special occasion."

"A little disappointing. Restaurant needs to decide whether it wants to be a fine dining experience or night club. We arrived for our 7:30 res. on a Thurs night. Music was blaring. We asked if we could move to a table not directly under a speaker or if the music could be adjusted...they were not interested in helping. We indicated that we would probably be able to stay only for a drink due to the noise level. They clearly didn't care. Told us it was "Ladies Night" and that there was a DJ. As we looked around, the other patrons were either families or couples...Not a group of partiers in site! We ordered cocktails and appetizers they were terrific. The menu looked wonderful. We are well traveled foodies disappointed we couldn't stay."

"Big disappointment for those of us who were followers of the chef at Ola. The decor is trendy blah; the noise levels are unacceptable and the sound system is not up to the task, with too many volume fluctuations. The atmosphere is not conducive to conversation or to good digestion: the food is not the attraction, as one might have imagined. In fact, at $46 p/p the paella was inexcusably salty, the taste of ham overwhelming the seafood."

"The food was better than delicious, as were the drinks. It's in a great location with a plenty of available street parking. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food."

"For a such a highly rated restaurant we had high expectations for our dinner. Sadly from standard dinner items that were sold out, to a Black Bean Soup that tasted as if it came from a can, to sides that were never served despite TWO reminders, this was a terrible experience, one that did not meet expectations in any way.
Our server didn't make things any better, forgetting about our table until we called him over, not serving entree sides, and bringing us the wrong bill not once, not twice, but THREE times, each time adding food items to the bill!
Don't waste your time or money at De Rodriguez Cuba, there are much better Cuban or Cuban-based restaurants in Miami and you should visit them instead."

"Based on reviews I read I was more worried about the service than the food. However, the service we good... The food... Eh. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria which was very good and our pickled vegetable salad app was the highlight of our meal. The filet churrasco was good, but it was served with obviously frozen, fast food type fries and the "warm crab" that the menu said was served with the filet was actually a cold crab tarter sauce. The seafood ceviche... almost inedible. Definitely not a meal worth the price. Definitely not what I would expect from a James Beard award winning chef."

"My wife and I who are admitted foodies ate here on Valentines day. We had the chefs table which was a lot of food (14 dishes) served over 4 courses. The food was very good, interesting and unique. The service was also unique, friendly, informative and attentive. The desserts were especially good and I had an amazing cigar after dessert with my coffee by the pool. Just a note, this place gets crowded late so don't worry if you are eating alone at 7PM by 9PM there will be a line at the door."

"The food quality should leave everyone happy. The civiche with tuna n watermelon is one of the best civiche I have had. I found this place in Arizona on vacation and knew they had a sister restaurant in Florida and I finally got to go. No disappointments."
