We are located in the middle of Prince's Island Park and we are accessed on foot via one of four bridges or causeways. Parking is available on street in the Eau Claire area, underground at Eau Claire Market for a flat fee of $2 on weekends and evenings, or across from Memorial Drive. "My step-daughter and I took her Daddy to River cafe for Father's Day brunch. The setting was as beautiful as ever and the food was delicious and artfully presented. The only downside was the noise and activity level of the restaurant. On top of being full with customers there was a lot of staff bustling around. If the service had been timely and five star it would have been alright but for the number of staff around the service was slow and sub-par for brunch. We will be going back."

"Attended fathers day bunch and then lunch the next day. Poor service both times, messed up reservations, 5 people table vs 6 requested. Waiter never mentioned specials, messed up food order and was very inattentive. Will not recommend"

"Went for a nice special lunch with my boyfriend on the one nice day so far. I have been to this location many times on different occasions and it has always been outstanding. Same high quality service, absolutely delicious food and beautiful location even though the rain was on its way. would recommend for dinner, brunch or just drinks"

"I recently took my family to River Cafe for Father's day. It was a memorable time, but the meal was even more memorable. I was delighted to see new additions for the Summer menu, along side the classic standards of the cafe. We ordered the latest flatbread- strawberry with pesto, st andre, and honeycomb- and an old faithful red lentil hummus with flatbread as starters. The Strawberry one was a HUGE hit at our table, and is the perfect version of a pizza for Summertime. I had the wild boar tenderloin and it was AMAZING!- I'm still thinking about it, almost three days later! All in all, a perfect meal...and for the love of God, DON'T forget to order the Pimms & Ginger!- You won't be sorry."

"This was our second visit to the River Cafe in the last few months and it was just ok. Not necessarily anything bad about it but not outstanding either. Waiters were neither friendly nor rude. Food was neither tasteless nor remarkable. View was fantastic. I would try them againto see if this was a one off, but not before I try another of other restaurants around town first."

"Aside from the waiter being a bit rude, we also had to sit there for quite a while after he took away my empty Prosecco glass. He never asked if I wanted another (I did), so I sat there watching my husband drink a nice wine he had the forethought to order right at the beginning of the night (along with the Prosecco).
The braised bison was gamey. I have it to my husband who agreed. Steak was med well, not medium. Little things, but for what you hear about this place, you expect more."

"We went for dinner and I had very high expectations. I'm surprised by how not " fancy " the decor is (its won all sorts of awards you'd think it would be a bit swankier). Then I was surprised by how many children were in there, running around, parents ignoring them. I also was shocked at how lax the dress code is... ripped hoodies and beaten up sneakers?
We tried the fish and game board. It was really good, very adventurous. I loved the rabbit, and the fresh mozzarella, didn't like the pickled asparagus.
My Beef Tenderloin was very tough, sinewy, and overcooked. Our server kindly replaced it with the Bison Striploin, which took nearly 30 minutes to come out. Don't see what the hype is about. It was free, won't be going back."

"My special friend is lucky enough to have a birthday in June. So each year we book our birthday luncheon in April for the June luncheon. Again she rarely leaves her downtown office to have a "break". But we again thoroughly enjoyed the luncheon. We shared an appetizers tray of wild boar, carmelized salmon, duck pate, olives. and the suggested wine pairing was exquisite. We had flatbread with southern Alberta strawberries, and a fresh dungeness crab salad. We make our visit a special occasion and we are never disappointed. The lush trees and the smell of the wood burning stove create a peaceful retreat."

"I live locally but hadn't been to the restaurant for some time and was very pleasantly surprised. I took a friend for a special birthday gift and she was impressed too. "Didn't actually stay to eat. Misunderstood the reservation sight and booked for the wrong day. When we went the only table available was right in the middle of the restaurant which you might as well not have. We felt in the way and cramped. Waiter didn't even acknowledge us for twenty minutes. I appreciate that it's busy, I've worked in a restaurant and I know it's hard but at least make sure we know that you know we're here. Mostly my issue was that the restaurant seemed waaaay to full. The weather was decent I don't see why the patio wasn't being used. I had a panic attack from claustrophobia and left."

"We had a marvelous dinner at River Cafe! The weather cooperated for the first half of dinner and had turned into a glorious , sunny, warm spring evening. The service was friendly, courteous and the server was extremely professional and knowledgable!
Then........ as is known to happen in our lovely city, the weather changed in a second and the umbrella almost landed on my head.
A bus person ran over to assist and as we quickly gathered our things to go inside, our server already had a table ready for us. We didn't have to say a word.

"We like River Cafe a lot and try to go whenever there is something to celebrate. The last two times, unfortunately, we haven't had the best service. We had asked for a table by the window in our reservation, but we did not get that. We had to wait for our food for 1 hour and had to chase down any waiter in order to get additional wine and an explanation as to why we were still waiting. Food is great, though, but we hope that the service would also improve."

"Love it. Great food - innovative plates (and I've eaten many) well cooked, presented and served. It's not cheap, but worth every penny I say, Wine list features Canadians as well as others from further afield, so something for everyone. And it's a gem of a place...in the summer it's all about patio dining (or wishing you were on the patio) and in the winter it's a cosy refuge from the cold with wood fires and that comforting smell.
I'm a fan. I've been alot, and I plan to go many times again."

"What makes this restaurant really great is its location. Located in the heart of Prince's Island Park, this restaurant reminds you of being in the shire setting for Lord of the Rings. We went there for their weekend brunch.The food was alright. I had the rare seared albacore tuna. it was rare but I wasn't sure it was seared. it resembled sushi rolled in mustard seeds. It was flavourful however just not what I expected. In terms of price, I suppose they can command 21$ for a small morsel of fresh Tuna as afterall we are farthest away from the ocean. My partner had the Brioche french toast. he really liked it as restaurant french toasts tend to get soggy and this wasn't. Overall, great place to go to for the ambiance."

"Service can be hit-and-miss but this was a good night at the River Café. They knew it was our anniversary and the service was the perfect amount of attentiveness. The food was very good, just off excellent simply because I hardly ever give an excellent. I personally like the rustic feel but modern menu of the River Café; great place for a semi-casual romantic evening out; don't be shy, let them know in your Open Table reservation you are celebrating. Give them a chance to shine!"

"Considering the reputation of this restaurant, the expectations were quite high. However, some basic mistakes were made by either kitchen or waitress:
- cooking of beef tenderloin way overdone
- appetizer of the day (with lamb) was too fat. 3/4 of the "meat" was fat, so the texture was very greasy
- we were 3 adults, and the waitress just asked me what appetizers I wanted and left for 5-10 minutes, so the other 2 couldn't order theirs before she returned

"Another perfect dinner at the River Café. Friendly staff, superior cuisine with lost of choices, excellent wine, fantastic outdoor atmosphere. My three guests from out of town were very happy. One of my three favorite restaurants in town, the other ones being Rouge and Blink."

"River Cafe is my daughters favourite place, so I took her there to celebrate her birthday. She is a runner and enjoys the park setting and eclectic cleintele. We had a wonderful seat overlooking the park pathways. Our waitress was excellent and seemed not only very knowledgable about the menu, but was friendly and food enthusiastic. I took her suggestion and ordered the lunch special. The food was excellent in look and taste. We shared the chocolate zuccini cake with raspberry sorbet for dessert and it was delicious. We had a wonderful walk in the park, to and from, our lunch and also did some shopping in Eau Claire market. It was all and all a great experience."

"We went to the River Cafe after my daughter's Grad Ceremony because we wanted to go to a restaurant that was unique and memorable. The menu provided an outstanding variety of unique food and the ambiance was perfect. Our server was very friendly and answered all of our many questions. "35 min wait to put in a drink order. Waitress didn't really apologize or offer any compensation for it. All of the lunch special was gone by the time we were able to put in an order (it wasn't when she originally told us about it 35 min earlier....why didn't we order drinks when she told us about the special...she didn't bring a drink menu). I love the food and ambiance at this restaurant, but this is the third time we have gone with exceptionally poor wait service. Had much better treatment at Earls the night prior, which is embarrassing for River Cafe. Fine dining yes, professional wait staff no. We were initially seated at a four top, but moved to a table for two. Ten min later a twosome was seated at our table. Annoying."

"The service was great and the food was interesting. We enjoyed the relaxed feel of the place and the view for all diners was enjoyable.
I do object to being charged $4 for the water that was offered to diners.
Flat, even flat filtered water sold at extravagant prices is unnecessary and felt like a deceitful add on to an otherwise acceptable $250 bill."

"From the moment we arrived everything was great! Our server was friendly and suggested great items off of the menu. She didn't rush us along and let us take our time to enjoy our drinks and meal. River Cafe is a great spot with wonderful food, but at the same time does not feel stuffy at all. We will definitely be back! The wild boar was delicious!"
