"Love the mezzes and the appetizers here. Our favorite is an order of the trio of tzatziki, roasted eggplant and hummus with the fabulous bread. This time we also enjoyed the merguez sausage, hamachi and grilled octopus. The wine list is varied with many excellent mid-range choices. I have also been here for brunch, which I would highly recommend."

"We were there for mother's day brunch, so perhaps this restaurant is better on other days. Three out of four of us arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation, but they would not seat us and gave our table to a walk in group. Our 4th party member arrived exactly on time, but we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a table. Weird.
My omelet was horrible, cold over cooked egg with a small amount of cold tomato and cheese that wasn't even slightly melted. A limp arugula salad, ugh..... the hummus plate was bland. Did enjoy the side of fries we ordered for the table, but that is about it.
Once seated, the service was nice.
With so many fabulous brunch options in NY (it really is a city that brunches), I would avoid this place."

"It's been a few years since I've been at Barbounia, but not for dinner. The food was fine. Nothing really outstanding. I had the lamb kabob. The noise level at times were high. The only thing that I did not like was when I asked for a glass of pinot noir as I sat down. The wine was good. I did not expect the wine to be $16!! The server should have mentioned it. I would have just had a glass of water.

I won't be back!"

"The restaurant is beautiful, and there's a lively bar scene. Food and service and also excellent but if you're really hoping to catch up with someone and have an in depth conversation, the noise level is a little too loud. I found myself having to shout at times."

"the noise level in the restaurant on a friday night is so loud you cannot hear the person across from you, due to the acoustics mainly. My voice was hoarse after having dinner. The food is a delicious selection of Mediteranean fair and will appease a vegetarian or hearty meat eater alike. The service left a little to be desired - we were flagging down our waiter for the basics like ordering our entrees and for the check since he did not check in with us at any point."

"Barbounia was a tremendous disappointment. The food was bland and poorly seasoned; the service was of the type that pretends to be attentive but is clearly trying to get you in and out; the noise level was such that it was impossible to hear what anyone at the table was saying without leaning forward and paying close attention--and all this at a very high price. I would never return or recommend it."

"the manager does try to push you out a little at the end because it is so crowded which is sort of annoying, but our server was so sweet and told us we could keep drinking bottomless mimosas at the bar. plus the food was excellent. make sure you have a rez for brunch! and try the hummus!"

"I was reluctant to go because Mediterranean food isn't my favorite, but it was delicious. I ordered the crispy calamari and chicken. The three other people in the party loved it as well. The only criticism I have would be the noise level. I did have to speak louder to be heard. That's why I wouldn't call it romantic."

"I love the food. The hostess and wait staff are nice and friendly, unfortunately they have not been trained properly. I eat at Barbounia often and is always the same. They leave you waiting, don't bring your drink, or coffee and once reminded if you can get their attention it take forever. The bus staff are always trying to take plates before everyone is finished with their main courses. I like the restaurant so this is the only reason I am bothering to give feedback."

"I've been to the Barbounia brunch at least 15 times in the past year. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is always a blast and the staff is USUALLY very attentive and friendly. This past Sunday, I had a waiter who was a total dud. He came by the table only twice; once to impatiently take our order and a second time to bring us our check before we even asked for it. What if we wanted to order more food? He never once came by to ask how we were doing or if we needed anything. This one instance won't deter me from coming back to Barbounia, but I definitely hope I dont get this waiter again or I'm saying something to management."

"We live very close by & are well acquainted with the local restaurants. Overall, the experience was pretty overpriced for what you can get in Gramercy. $32 for a decent portion of fish + $15 cocktails may not break the bank, but the service was sub-par (I had a clipboard menu shot at me frisbee-style by the hostess with a scant apology, our waiter forgot to give any specials before demanding what we wanted, etc.). "Four of us met for lunch to celebrate our pal's birthday. The food was amazing -- the best hummus I have ever had servied with fresh from the oven flatbread that was so light ans flavorful you were tempted to just eat that... The entire wait staff were charming, thoughtful and attentive. I am already planning to go back with my family for dinner."

"On a center tbl & we could feel very cold air every time door opened. Felt the foot traffic of all servers/host/bus boys. Our waiter was not happy when he found out we were not in a rush & plan to enjoy brunch/bottomless Mimosas. He had attitude & service was not great at all. He was still trying to rush us & even made a comment about turning over the tbl. Asked for extra bread with appz & we noticed he never put in the order. We had to grab a mgr/host to get more bread. My egg sandwich was not as described so when I asked for the sauce that I was expecting, I got a rolled eye before he got it. Got the dessert with no coffee but it was on the bill and so was the extra bread. I use to love this place but not anymore..what a shame..."

"We have dined there several times in the past and it was always a very pleasurable dining experience. The night we went was the night of the snowstorm which could have played a role in the service as well as the food being off kilter. Normally a terrific spot for both normal dining as well as late night dining. Note to my server, I hope you gave the water/busboy at least half of your tip as he was much more attentive to our needs than you were. Re: table that canceled 2nd bottle of wine because they had to wait 30 mins for it! We would have ordered 3 as that is our usual #!"
