"This establishment is run by Maverick Kitchens, the same folks who run Slightly North of Broad, and it did not disappoint. The fried pork belly with white beans was the star appetizer; the flounder was an outstanding main dish, as was the rack of lamb. For dessert, we had an excellent cheese tray along with a decent, if somewhat small, selection of dessert wines from which to choose. The service was impeccable, with a waiter who was both friendly and knowledgeable. We have visited other restaurants considered to be "high end" along East Bay Street in Charleston - High Cotton imparts Charleston's famous charm minus the hauteur that so often plagues this city's restaurants."

"My husband took me to High Cotton for my birthday and it was outstanding. We made reservations for a birthday dinner and when we were seated I was greeted with a "Happy Birthday" card signed by the manager - a nice touch. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious."

"Everything was great. Our server made sure the nine of us out for brunch before going to a 3 PM performance at the Footlight Theater were not rushed and very relaxed from our 12:30 seating. All of the entrees were served at the same time - VERY IMPORTANT!!!!
Our only suggestion - please use real Maple Syrup -not maple flavored syrup. There is a huge difference and it would best reflect the highest quality of food at your establishment. Foodies know the difference."

"The brunch was overrated. The pork belly on the eggs Benedict was not even cooked and we could not eat it. It was like raw bacon The portion was too small for the price we paid. The French toast was very good and the omlet was good...not great We were disappointed in the service. Our waiter had too many tables and we hardly saw him. We were disappointed considering the $$$ we paid. Don't think we'll be back."

"Excellent food in a beautiful setting. Had a perfectly prepared filet mignon while the others in my party had scallops, low boil seafood combination and salmon. "Yet another great experience at High Cotton! My wife and I went for lunch (underrated joint for lunch!) and we had appetizer entree and dessert! We had the salmon wontons and fried portabellos and both were fantastic. Then my wife had the special tuna melt which was delicious but my sandwich, the reuben, was much much tastier. It is fantastic with house cured meat and some great grilled bread. We finished with my wife getting rhubarb crisp and me getting what I asked for and receiving a souflee for lunch. It isn't on their lunch menu but if you ask, they will usually make it because they are awesome. Highest recommendation, great service, great atmosphere, great food every single time. This restaurant is why Charleston is great."

"High Cotton is one of the more upscale and fancier restaurants in Charleston. Some of the male diners wore jacket and tie, but it is not required, but not out of place either. I would recommend smart casual as a minimum though and jeans and t-shirts are not appropriate if even allowed in the dining room.
The food and service was very good. I had the special NC Speckled trout which was delicious and perfectly prepared, but a little on the small side. I appreciate the emphasis on using locally sourced ingredients where possible and they list the sources in the menu.

"I phoned my request for a semi-circular table at the rear of the main dining room the day before our reservation because we seniors sometimes have a problem with the level of conversation elsewhere. We arrived 30 minutes early and were immediately escorted to one of those tables, so with the outstanding food and service our dinner was just wonderful. We have another reservation next week with another senior couple."

"This was my second visit to High Cotton. It's has such a lovely atmosphere and the menu is interesting as well. I was in town with a friend who I was treating to dinner. We completely enjoyed everything we ordered. The server had been very attentive but, I had a gift card and wanted to use it on our dinner. The amount on the card did not cover the entire cost of dinner, so I wanted to split it with another card. The server could not find a way to make this work. He said the card was not going thru for the amount of the gift card. I've never had this issue anywhere before when trying to use a gift card, and the card worked just fine the next day when I used it to pay for our rental car instead. That is the reason for 4 stars in service."

"We enjoyed our experience at High Cotton. I did not particularly like what I ate, but it was prepared well. I guess I just cannot develop a taste for flounder. One of our party ordered a steak "medium rare" but it came "medium." The waiter very courteously took it and replaced it with one that was done as ordered. In the meantime the maître de brought some soup to allow the individual to have something to eat. That was a nice touch. The setting and environment is very pleasant and we definitely would go back. We had brunch there once and it was wonderful."

"HC offers and all around quality dining experience. The Painkiller is great, and don't miss the scallops. The most enjoyable of all of the food that we ordered was the fried brussle sprouts. I would go back solely for them! Be sure to try them. Staff is friendly and genuine. We will go back."

"I hosted a group of eight. The wait staff was very attentive. We started with some drinks while we waited on one of the party to join us. The waiters let us be and did not push. Food was served very timely and everyone enjoyed themselves. The menu selections are unique and excellent. I had the rabbit which was fantastic.
I would recommend this restaurant for business dinners and special occasions. I do not think it is a place for children. They would spoil the evening for other diners."

"High Cotton always delivers and we enjoy Sunday Brunch there at least once a month and on special occasions. However, a few glitches occurred this past Mother's Day when we dined there. First, our reservation was for 2:00pm and we arrived earlier than 2:00pm but were not seated until 2:40pm. When we finally placed our orders, the restaurant was out of steak and eggs, my children's favorite brunch item. Additionally, the live music which we always love, stopped at 2:00pm. We did not know that the music ended at 2pm and if we had we would not have made a reservation that late. Heads up to make an earlier reservation if you want live music and all menu items."

"The twice baked potato for $6or 8 is a small half of a potato with a blob of melted cheese on top (barely enough for three small fork fulls), can get better at a diners or cheap buffett, the brocolli and carrots for $7 consist of three very small florets and a few slivers of carrots. BOTH ARE TRUE RIP OFFS. The 10oz strip steak I had came in 3 put togather sections and was grissly. I ordered bernaise sause with mine and the steak came with crem fresh melted on top. My partner ordered a well done steak and was served medium, sent back, however my partner said her steak was good. Sometimes when restaurants are successful , their quality and value go down at the expense of the loyal customer, they just want to make money at customers expense."

"A great restaurant for a special occasion. The food is great and the cocktails are outstanding. The tables are arranged so that you feel cozy though there are many others in the room. My dining experience at High Cotton was altogether very pleasant."

"Awesome wedding anniversary celebration. First time in Charleston and came on a friend's recommendation. Food and atmosphere were outta the park!!! Waiter even brought a complimentary champagne toast to our table to begin the meal. Crab soup outstanding and picnic appetizer to share were so much fun and really tasty. We now know how good low country cuisine can be. All dishes prepared with care and delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. Thanks for making our night so special!"

"When visiting Charleston we have always made it a point to dine at High Cotton. Our past experiences have been great, however, this time was fair at best. The quality of the food and the service was not up to our expectations. I believe we'll be trying out someplace new next time we're in town. In all fairness, the bar scene with live jazz is worth stopping in for a cocktail or glass of wine."

"We took my parents here last Friday for a celebratory dinner. Some dishes were exquisite, some were sub-par. The sirloin steak and pork chop were out of the park excellent, while the halibut and scallops failed to impress. At $8 per scallop, the restaurant has no excuse for charring or overcooking. If you're looking for the best three scallops of your life, head to magnolias. But if you want your mind blown by a huge succulent pork chop, this is your place."

"It was simply the dining highlight of my Charleston visit! The service was impeccable! Every one of our selections from the menu from appetizers to dessert was presented flawlessly and each was absolutely delicious. The pimento cheese spread and rolls were so good, we requested some to go! The wine list was hands down the very best in the city. "As always, High Cotton delivered excellent service and ambience and very good food. "I have been here several times before but was a first for the rest of my family, ther were five of us. With the exception of my sisters shrimp dish which was delivered on the cool side ( she had to wait 5 minutes for a refire) the balance of the meal was very nice.
Our reservation was for 7:30 (evening)) most of the gentlemen had on long pants many with sports jackets, but all looked smart casual. There was a couple the woman looked great but the. Man was in high top sneakers white socks ,cargo shorts and a short sleeve shirt handing out side of his shorts. A great look for a baseball game not a fine dining establishment. What ever happened to requiring some measure of a dress code at a minimum.( smart casual)"
