Review 5 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"If it's available, get the panko-crusted pork special. What's not apparent from the menu description is that it is essentially deep-fried pulled pork and it is simply divine.

No matter what, SNOB represents a fantastic dining experience and fantastic value.

Review 15 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"I was extremely disappointed. The place was so noisy I could not even talk with my wife who was with me. The waitress really did not know her job. The meat I had with my meal was not of good restaurant quality. Half of it was excellent, the other half was tough and stringy. For a restaurant that was supposed ot be the best in Charleston in 2008 something must have changed. I was not impressed and would not return nor recommend it to friends."

Review 18 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"We were a bit disappointed. Our wine was finally delivered by the Manager. Our food service was very slow - and this was at 9:15 in the evening!

Expected it to be more classy (business casual) and intimate (the "guys" hanging at the bar in flip-flops and caps were a bit of a downer) and the noise level was not condusive to our idea of "fine dining" and hardly intimate.

We understand the split-fee for an entree, but a $2.50 split fee for a salad????? Rediculous! Would we return, probably not.

Review 20 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Even though the food was great, and the server nice, the hostess truly makes the word snob fit this restaurant. She was rude, acted like it was less than cool to make a reservation over the web, and seated us like she was doing us a favor to eat here. With so many great places to eat, this is not one I would go back to, just because of one person. I can spend 100.00 someplace else."

Review 26 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We like SNOB and visit every time we are in Charleston. There are different versions of many standard dishes some of which work magnificantly and others that are inspired misses. The service and staff could not be better: professional, knowledgeable and genuinely desireous of taking care of all your culinary needs. It is a very comfortable restaurant to dine and you are put at ease at once.

We will return to Charleston in 3 months and have already made reservations at SNOB for that time.

Review 28 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"As always the service was great! This time Jen was our waitress and she was awesome. I have only had one other wait person that was as professional, yet personable since moving to the Carolinas. I actually broke from my usual P.E.I. mussels ( which are the best I've had in the Carolina's, possibly ever) and tried the Shad Roe based on her reccomendation. It was very good, and I am glad I tried them. The rest of the meal was very good. I have never had a bad meal here. They range from very good to excellent or outstanding. We visit S.N.O.B. everytime we are in Charleston or the area. I actually prefer S.N.O.B. to High Cotton across the street, having been to both as of this weekend. S.N.O.B. is a must for dining when visiting Charleston."

Review 31 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"I have been living in Charleston for about 12 years and have been to most every restaurant in downtown Charleston. For some reason I never went to S.N.O.B. However this year for Valentine's Day, I decided to take my girlfriend there. Without question the best overall experience I have had in a very long time. The atmosphere is unreal. The food is out of this word and the service is world class. I've had many great meals downtown, but the service is sometimes just not there. Mel (our server) was the best server I've ever had. From the moment we sat down, she was there for us. She treated us like family. Thanks Mel! We also loved being able to watch the kitchen work there magic. We left there on Cloud 9. We can't wait to go back. MAVERICK RES"

Review 34 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"I traveled from New York to Charleston for two days and I only had time to dine at one restaurant. I chose Slightly North on Broad. It was Valentine's Day so they had a Pre-fix menu, however the selections were great. I started with the pear salad which was just right. For the main course I had the lamb chops (I was suprised when eight appeared on my plate). They were delicious and cooked perfectly. For dessert I had the strawberry shortcake. It was a corncake with vanilla icecream and strawberries. A very interesting take on strawberry shortcake.

I was given a little dessert treat bag(maybe because it was Valentine's). The service was attentive and wonderful. I hope to visit SNOB again and explore more of Charleston's restaura

Review 39 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"SNOB, stands for Slightly North of Broad, it is also is one of the finest places to dine in Charleston. We went for Lunch & the value is amazing, we shared between the Two of us , Red bean soup, Shrimp & grits & Mussels that was served in a broth with tomatoes & pork belly which gave it an amazing smokey taste. The Red Bean Soup was spicy & very flavorful. The Shrimp & Grits are according to a lot of folks not really low country original but all i can say is the pairing is inspired & at SNOB the execution is excellent. Service from the moment you walk in is friendly & professional, Lunch with a Glass of a very good Malbec & glass of Sangria was approx $40 for 2 people which is great value for such a top notch place. Parking is availabl"

Review 43 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The food was very good but the restaurant was more noisy and hopping then we prefer. For a highly rated place I expected more elegance and quiet but I do know lots of people like noisy places...just not what we were expecting. It was also warm since we were seated near the kitchen so would be interesting to see how hot it gets in the summer. Good food and good service but have tried it and will go back to our favorite next time we visit Charleston...."

"SNOB is just good food with a Southern flair. It is not in a mfortable surondings in the restaurant, and one goes there for great food and reasonable prices. My wife an I both had Shrimp and Grits, excellent choice at the SNOB.

I also want to add that Open Table did a great job - good restaurant selection, good service. What else could one reasonably expect!!

Review 49 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"This is the second time my wife and I have been to SNOB. I was concerned that after a few years of popularity and fame, SNOB would have lapsed in either food quality or service. In our case, they have done neither. The quality of the fish and vegetables was outstanding. The Mahi, usually not my favorite fish, was picked perfectly for it texture and freshness. The accompaniments really embellished the fish well. My wife ordered the vegetable place with tofu, and all was prepared in an excellent fashion. I grill fish and veggies frequently and am picky at restaurants, but this food exceeded my expectations. In addition, the service from Heath was just right; not too intensive, but he knew when to stop by and check."

The restaurant needs more vegetarian and vegan options - something that should be easy given the abundance of local produce in the Charleston area - for me to dine there regularly.

Review 60 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"This has always been a "must go" restaurant for us whenever we were in Charleston which is rather often since we live about 40 minutes away. I believe the quality of food and service is always dependable with very few exceptions. I also think I must be getting a little bored with it because I ordered the roasted pear salad which I always thought was great, only to realize that all they do is throw some greens on a plate with a few nuts in a pile, dried cranberries in a pile and gorgonzola in a pile. The carmelized pear was good but overall the salad took zero effort to make. I also had the Shrimp and Grits and Derby pie. They were great."

Review 61 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Our server was very personable and knowledgeable and all recommendations were well founded. The duck entrée included a sautéed breast of duck as well as leg confit w/wonderful glaze. Butternut squash casserole was creamy and delish. Also offered was an exceptional value 3 course prix fixe for $30. As an appetizer, the experience of pork belly over lowcountry stone ground grits is not to be missed. The rack of lamb was generous and perfection. Desserts included a warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream – reminiscent of the Atlanta, Ga, Bacchanalia’s warm valrhona chocolate cake – the perfect ending to a truly exceptional dining experience. Quiet, soft lighting and another great renovation of an old Charleston property."

Review 62 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"How to have great food, ambiance and service and still have a poor experience?

We were placed near the door during unseasonable cold weather. Nothing like random blasts of cold air down the back of your neck to take your mind off your food and conversation.

I will never accept a table near the door during cold weather again. Some tables are just not usable given the draft the front door creates.

"The food at SNOB is AMAZING. I'm a vegetarian and they have the most fantatic roasted vegetable plate I've ever had. I know roasted veggies sound boring, but not at SNOB. They had a variety of roasted local fresh (and most importantly - in SEASON) veggies. It was to die for. My husband had the rack of lamb, and said it was the best lamb he'd ever had - cooked to perfection. Our waiter was very helpful and quite knowledgeable as well."

"We were seated at our reservation time 6PM which was a little early however, about 20% of the tables were already seated. By the time our wine arrived, the restaurant was filled. The staff was very friendly but efficient. Menu had enough variety. Food presentation was very well done. My friend had oyster stew and crab cakes. She loves oysters and was thrilled with the stew. The crab cakes had just enough filling to hold them together during the cooking process. I had duck that was delicious and properly prepared.
Nice experience, I would revisit.

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Another great dining experience at SNOB. Our server was terrific. Exceptional service is often difficult to get at other places, but it's common at SNOB. We've had at least a dozen different servers at SNOB and they've all been top-notch, and not in a "stuffy" way, rather they seem genuinely happy you're there.

Can't go wrong at SNOB.

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Dining at SNOB is always a treat. The menu is varied, the ingredients fresh and local, and there are always new items to choose from. Noise level is not bad, even when the place is jumping so you can have a conversation and not shout to hear each other. Conveniently located in the heart of Charleston, one can be dressed to the nines or casually attired and feel equally comfortable since this is a tourist town."

"Arrived early and had a drink at the bar. Great drink, a little slow. We were seated at a great table with a view to the kitchen & the floor. Service was great, food was great, ran out of dessert choices ! NOT GOOD. No Corn Bread Pudding @ 8PM ! Nice wine selection; variety and price. Beef was tender and sauce very nice. Dessert was also very good. Will go back again as the menu has lots of choices with some very interesting local selections."

"S.N.O.B is a comfortable restaurant with a wonderful decor that made for a perfect birthday meal. My bibb salad with smoked bacon was outstanding as was my cut of local, small farm free range beef. The collard greens and white beans were outstanding. Key lime pie paired with a nice desert wine topped off the evening. A three course for $30 price fixe menu offered a great value and outstanding choices."

Review 91 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We ate at SNOB as part of restaurant week. The $30 price tag is a great deal. Unfortunately the menu posted on the restaurant week website was not exactly the same as the actual restaurant menu. The entree that I had really wanted (Seafood Pasta housemade fettuccini, shrimp, mussels, mushrooms, spinach, crab cream) was not offered. I had the amberjack instead but I didn't like it. My husband also had the amberjack and he quite liked it. The she crab soup was the best I have ever had."

Review 92 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The food was very good, as was the atmosphere. We had the prime rib and it was cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend this restaurant as one of the better ones in Charleston. This is our second time dining there and our first was also very good. During this visit, the only negative was that the waitress forgot that it was my husband's birthday. I specifically mentioned his birthday in my reservation, and the hostess knew about it because she mentioned it to me when I arrived early. I was dissapointed that my husband did not get a candle in his dessert or a 'happy birthday', because he was celebrating a milestone birthday."

Review 96 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"Have heard rave reviews about this restaurant - perhaps they were just having an off night, but our food was only 'mediocre' considering the price. The best thing we ate was the carmelized pear/gorgonzola salad (which isn't saying too much if a salad is the highlight). The triggerfish was OK, but the winter veg paired with it was bland. The NY strip was underdone (more medium rare than medium as asked for) and the pork belly was WAY overcooked. Won't be going back."

"One of the best gourmet restaurants in town. Wine list, however, offers no choices in the $40-$50 range. We feel forced to order expensive glasses of wine. SNOB is perfectly justified in offering high end wines, but the price range should be broader. Many excellent wines, complementing their cooking, could be bought for less."

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"It was pretty good. However, our server brought our drinks (at which time we were ready to order...) and then left us alone for about 10 minutes while he took the drink and food order at another table that had sat down after us. I thought that was kind of rude, because we are younger and he probably assumed he would get a better tip from these other folks. The food was good, the duck salad was delicious and the sweet potatoes & tilapia were divine. The bread pudding could use some work...it wasn't heated evenly throughout and was quite bland. I'd give our experience a 7 out of 10...next time we'll probably just stick with High Cotton."

"It had been a while since we dined at S.N.O.B. and now I wonder why. We were seated in a quieter corner, as we requested, had wonderful service, and the food was so good we were stunned. The special 3-course menu for $30 (January only) was a nice surprise, although not necessary as the regular prices are not excessive. I noticed an eating bar where singles could sit at a counter, read a book or paper, and not feel out of place. I thought this was a very nice touch and welcome, I'm sure, to traveling businesspeople. So S.N.O.B. is definitely on our "to do" list when we want a wonderful meal downtown."

Review 111 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We enjoyed our Low Country lunch choices (Shrimp & grits w/sausage and fried chicken livers over grits w/caramelized onions) while visiting from New York. The service was friendly, attentive, very helpful in not only navigating the menu, but also in fun candid anecdotes (a table next to us was a tough bunch which the server handled with grace & ease) that made for an enjoyable meal in the midst of the pleasant surroundings of the beautiful old building in which we were dining. Of special note was the Sour cream apple pie, the BEST apple pie I have ever eaten (which our server suggested heated up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream; do NOT skip the apple pie if you go! FYI - the banana cream pie was a big hit at the table next to us."

Review 114 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"This is a fabulous restaurant! The dishes were not always perfect, but the ones that were made up for the rest. I loved the cornbread that is just sweet enough and moist like a cake. Our mushroom soup seemed a bit ordinary, but the stuffed quail was aromatic and flavorful. Also, the salmon was high quality, but I discovered that I prefer salmon to be grilled on a cedar plank. The duck blew everything away though. The muscadine reduction left just a faint sweet taste that was perfect. Our waiter was also amazing. He enthusiastically described how all the dishes were prepared like a food writer would. It really whetted our appetite. They also gave us special extras since we were celebrating our anniversary. We felt very special!"

"The duo of duck main course had the most tender and juicy duck breast I've ever tasted.... and it came as I requested... medium! Review 120 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Very nice atmosphere. Special soup - scallop mushroom bisque- was incredible. House cured smoked salmon appetizer also exceptional. I had the jumbo crab cakes and liked but didn't love. Perhaps the hype had been too great. Partner had BBQ tuna which he said was best tuna he ever ate though the fried oysters on top were mushy- seemed like something might have gone wrong. Nice cocktails. We were too full for dessert."

Review 125 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Charleston. The gnocchi appetiser was very good. The tuna with fried oysters was excellent, especially the fried oysters. The crab cakes were also very good. The apple pie with homemade ice cream was out of this world. The sangria was not sweet enough; I recommend that instead of putting green apples they put pineapple, cherries, and other tropical fruits like the Spanish do. The service at this place was also exceptional. Just be ready for the check beforehand because this place is expensive; could easily be $100 for 2 people. However, know that this will be money well spent."

Review 127 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"SNOB manages to be consistently good and avoids the "tourist trap formula" that many of the area's restaurants tend to slip into. It's a pretty restaurant that feels special without breaking the bank. The menu is fresh without being self consciously trendy and locally sourced produce, meats and seafood are used extensively. In a town where you can eat very well, SNOB still stands out."

Review 145 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"If you like pate, strongly consider the Charcuterie as a starter to share. It included a nice variety in meats. Also, we had the lamb and the duck. Both were very good, and both are good choices, but we slightly preferred the lamb. It was well flavored and balanced with a very generous portion. Service was very engaging, friendly, and attentive. At this price point, we believed it represents a good value and many ways superior to restaurants who charge more. When we return to Charleston, we will return to S.N.O.B."

Review 149 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The service was excellent. This was not our first time at SNOBs and the service has always been very good there. We had the cheese platter for appetizers and the waitress was kind enough to write down the names of the cheeses being served. One of us had the special of flouder w/crab meat. The flouder was not the best. Sorry but it just wasn't. Everything else was great!"

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"This was our second time at SNOB, and enjoyed it as much as we did the first time. The food is just outstanding, and we liked the fact they offer medium sized plates. The service was excellent. This restaurant has a great ambiance, and we hope to return again.
Thank you.

Review 153 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Went for lunch. Food was good, not outstanding. But atmosphere was really worth the visit to this restaurant. Others at my table had better food than mine, and mine was not bad; my expectations were high, so I think my entree just underwhelmed a bit. The banana pie dessert was great. I felt the prices very reasonable."

Review 155 for Slightly North of Broad

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Vefy good overall, the hostess in particular were efficient. Very good practice of having the hostess check back with our table. Food gets high marks ocerall, but please don't put pancetta on a charcuteris plate and call it head cheese.... The Tuna was excellent, homemade kim chee a nice touch. The mussels were indifferently prepared, good but not inspired, I would expect a more interesting choice from the "Maverick". Medium Platres are a great idea, we had two cousres each and were not over-full like so many other times out at good rfestaurants."

"S.N.O.B. was excellent, even better than I expected it to be. We were a party of four, two couples. We got to try a lot of the menu and specials and share several bottles of wine. The food was fantastic. Service was perfect. This was a very fun dinner which I'll be talking about for months and months."
