Serving soulful Greek food carefully blended with a West Village vibe, Snack Taverna is a warm and welcoming space that features high tin ceilings, exposed brick walls and oversized windows. Since opening in 2003, Honest, good food and friendly, professional service have defined the “ethos” of our restaurant.
Our kitchen serves up a bold flavored mix of traditional, home-style and modern interpretative Greek cooking throughout the day.
The beverage program consists of hard to find artisanal Greek wines as well as a list of seasonally inspired cocktails . Snack Taverna seats up to 45 guests comfortably and 4 at the bar.
"Dinner was good, surprised to see menu lacked the "moussaka" dish. Service is friendly albeit a little slow. Price is ok for New York and the wine selection of Greek wines quite diverse."

"Friends and I shared the meze platter, the grilled vegetables, and the lamb triangles in phyllo. All were tasty and delicious, with seasoning and freshness that elevated them above the typical corner Greek place fare. Only disappointment was their baklava which we liked but didn't love. It wasn't the sticky sweet moist standby we expected, rather one layer of filling with phyllo on top. Definitely will be back!"

"....about this place, because then you'll go there and it will be harder for me to get a table. But I will. Excellently prepared, fresh Greek food, from simple to creative. I loved every morsel I put in my mouth from the simple butter beans with tomato and feta to the succulent pork tenderloin. Oh, and the bowl of jordan almonds upon departure was just the clincher that they've got me hooked. My only complaint is the uncomfortable chairs, and even in spite of them I will be back!"

"This small, sweet restaurant serves the finest Greek food I have ever had (I've had a lot). Equally important, the entire culture of the restaurant clearly communicates: "we care about providing you an excellent experience", from the outstanding food, terrific and friendly service, and very pleasant ambience. I strongly recommend this restaurant."

"My girl friends and I come here once every three months or so for a reunion. We studied abroad together in Greece so naturally gravitated toward a taverna for this occasion. Snack is consistently delicious and we always look forward to going there! The lamb stifado, zucchini fritters, tzatziki, horta, greek salad, spanikopita, saganaki and veal meatballs are our favorite dishes. So... pretty much the whole menu! Thank you, Snack!"

"Second time we've been here for dinner. Maybe the best Greek food we've had in the city. Amazing for an unheralded place on a quiet West Village street. Service is friendly, decor is rustic. We had the saganaki, mixed appetizer plate, Branzino, roast chicken, vegetarian stuffed sweet red pepper, roast cod, all outstanding, with perfectly balanced seasonings and sides. We hated for the meal to end, but we were so full! Just be aware that its a relatively small space and the noise level can get a bit loud (though not earsplitting) when it's full."

"I've been to Snack Taverna several times in the past and had a great experience. Unfortunately, this dinner was a disappointment. Several dishes that our table ordered were subpar and our waiter messed up two orders. Additionally, we were a party of 4 and they sat us at a table in the middle of the room, instead of the lovely window booth. That booth stayed empty during our entire meal - it seems like they could have given a nice table to someone who went to the trouble of making a reservation. I probably won't return."

"Though a 'tight fit,' waitstaff was so well coordinated & organized one never felt 'squished.' I was impressed that the greeter took my coat & hung it so that it was out of the way & so that I was able to sit down without being overwhelmed by my winter coat which would've blocked waiter access to the tables. After we (a party of three, i.e., my husband and me and our 25-yr old son) finished, we lingered & talked (since we'd come in from Philly & our son from Conn. to have a relaxed hour to visit & reconnect. Finally, I asked for the bill. The gentleman (the same who'd hung my coat) said he'd not presented the bill earlier 'cause he wanted us to feel relaxed, not harried. We were so very grateful for that elegant vibe. + FAB FOOD."

"We used to love Snack Taverna, and recently went back with another couple. The service was so awkward and confusing. Our waiter had a hard time understanding us and couldn't communicate very well. When pouring the wine, he would reach over us, taking no care to avoid being intrusive or even a pretty standard "pardon my reach" warning. The food was ok... my fish was overcooked, and the wine list was confusing, and of course the waiter was of minimal help when I asked (admittedly, I'm no wine connoisseur, but at least I can figure out what is going on with a wine list usually). Overall, a very mediocre and strange evening at Snack Taverna."

"The food was very good, but the service could definitely be improved. They were slow to take our order, and did not check back often or regularly to refill our drinks. There was a considerable lapse in between courses, and even between appetizers.
With that said, however, everyone was very nice and friendly and the food was definitely the highlight of the evening. I would go back again, and look forward to trying their brunch, which I've heard is fantastic."

"It gets very noisy later in evening and on weekends I think. I was there early on a Tuesday night when there were very few diners--so not noisy then."
