Noble Rot opened in May 2002. It has gained local and national attention including the NY Times, the Wine Spectator & Gourmet. The Willamette Week named Noble Rot "Restaurant of the Year" in 2003 & Sunset Magazine named it “2009 Wine Bar of the Year”. The best way to plunge into the Rot is through the wine flights that are offered each day. They also display a large bottle selection and all the wines are available to go. Noble Rot’s highly regarded, locally sourced, seasonal food menu is made up of small plates with intense flavors. Noble Rot is perched atop the fourth floor in an award winning, environmentally sound, Leed-platinum certified building (the greenest!) which includes a fantastic west facing city view. With its outdoor patio seating, it is one of the best places in the city to watch the sunset.
"I brought my parents here as a thank-you for being awesome parents and for paying to cater my wedding. We requested the patio via OpenTable and got a great seat outside! The restaurant was packed, but we never felt neglected by our server and our food, drinks and apps all came out quickly. Our server was wonderful and knowledgeable. The food was killer and I didn't die of sticker shock when the check came.
A bottle of wine, two beers, a salad and an appetizer, four entrees, a port flight, a glass of scotch and an amazing dessert for under $200, amazing! All top quality, with a view to boot, I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful experience."

"A friend and I went for happy hour on a Friday. We made a reservation a few days before and requested to sit outside. When we got there at 5:30, the whole place was packed, but they had saved a nice little table out on the patio for us. I ordered the Italian Alpine which was delicious and the cheese plate. My friend ordered the onion rings which were pretty much the best onion rings I've ever had. There wasn't too much breading and it wasn't totally drench in grease. The onions were still a little firm so you could actually bite into them without losing the whole onion. We will definitely be coming back to try more of their food. Happy hour has great deals on food and drinks and on a nice day the outside it a real treat!"

"I always hope that if a restaurant offers a limited and pricy menu, then those few items would be memorable, right? Sadley, despite the great atmosphere and fun views of the city, the food here was bland and more bland. Not just what I was served, but the same response from the four other diners with completely different selections. I mean they were all indistinguishable from each other."

"Coming on Valentine's Day, we got the distinct feeling that the restaurant considered the whole affair a big pain, and was perhaps aiming to reduce future crowding by charging a lot for very little. It will work for us! The scallops were so overly seasoned, mainly with salt, as to be inedible by my wife (who has eaten and has cooked scallops in many styles and almost always enjoyed them). No replacement or amendment was offered by the waitress, so she basically went without an entree. For $70 per person before add-ons, I would have expected better. Even if there WAS an annoyingly large crowd of customers that night."

"Perfect spring day, dinner on the patio, beautiful sunset, fantastic wine and really scrumptious dinner. The pork schnitzel was perfect comfort food for my husband. The scallops were sublime. I thought street parking would be tricky, but not so. Great spot. We'll be back!"

"I've always had a warm spot for this place, but tonight's service was a disappointment. Our food arrived after 45 min ... cold. Not a good thing for a pasta special, which did taste good after it was reheated. The unfortunate part was that the server was really unpleasant about it, which made for an unhappy experience. We left without ordering dessert.
It was a shame because we were really looking forward to it."

"First we had to explain the name. The service was great, we arrived for my wife's Birthday with friends during happy hour. We had all of the happy hour appetizers, they were all great. We each had a different main dish all very good. It was a beautiful sunny Portland evening on the deck with wonderful service, views, and friends Eric Johnston Liquor store owner Troutdale"

"The staff was pleasant but seemed overwhelmed (understandably so) and a bit stressed by the crowd of diners who showed up in sunshine. Evem with a reservation, the wait time was at least 15 minutes. The food seemed hastily prepared and not as tasty as expected. Not our best dining experience."

"Great place for dinner on a sunny spring early evening. Menu is good with interesting choices. Our group had Schnitzel, Pot Pie, and Lamb. All were good - Lamb was exceptional. Wine list was very good - enjoyed a nice Italian red. Service was very good - friendly and knowledgeable about the menu."

"I have been here in the past and enjoyed it more. This time, we were seated on the semi-enclosed porch. The sun was shining but it wasn't more than 55 degrees out and they had the sliding doors and windows open. I had to ask the server to close the doors so I could eat without my wool coat on, and other patrons thanked me after I did. Ordered the pasta special but had to send it back because the pasta itself was not fully cooked. My first few bites included chewy, sticky clumps, and the entire dish was luke warm. Server was apologetic and they brought me a new portion within seven or eight minutes which was piping hot and cooked properly. I ultimately did not care for it much, but they remedied my complaint promptly and politely."

"Wonderful experience. Provided that hard to find ghost-like experience where our server was around at just the right time and no more. Wine flights were expertly designed and to provide variety and contrast. The cava rose was dangerously easy to drink!"

"the food was good, not great. i have been before and felt this time it wasn't as good. had the noble salad and the steak. others had the ham and cheese panino. they felt it was OK. maybe because it was a monday night? with so many excellent places to eat in portland, when the food isn't spot on, it is a disappointment. i would recommend but with comments. service was very friendly and did a good job."

"This restaurant was so noisy conversation was impossible. The food was so-so and they were out of my first choice, an item on the regular menu. The staff tried to be accommodating and the rooftop location offered a nice view of the city but that is about all there is to recommend this restaurant."

"The food was fantastic for everyone in our large party, but unfortunately the evening was overshadowed by the poor service. The hostess was completely aloof and flat out rude when we arrived. We had to wait almost 20 minutes even though we had reservations, and the hostess kept acting like our party was in her way. When we got to the table our server was much nicer (and actually acted like she wanted to be there), and made great recommendations for dinner. The food coming out was a disaster - one person didn't receive their salad until almost everyone else was finished with theirs (approx 10-15 minutes later), and the same happened with the entrees. I expected a better experience from a restaurant with such clout - and prices."

"I have been wanting to go here for years. Great place to catch up with friends, try new wines, and enjoy delicious food with a beautiful view of downtown. The wine list by the glass was surprisingly limited but with wines I was not familiar with. I appreciated this because I then didn't feel overwhelmed with options I didn't know about. Our server described the wines by the list for us but also recommended the wine flights which would give us an opportunity to try a variety of wines. I had the panini with butternut squash, caramelized onion and goat cheese ~ divine! They have a roof garden which they grow many of their vegetables and herbs. I will definitely go back. Looking forward to enjoying their patio."

"We had a great time dining in a very comfortable environment. The food was great with few exceptions - we didn't love the renown mac and cheese nor the creme brûlée but we liked it. The ceviche, steak and sole were splendid though. The staff was friendly and fun while being efficient at their work."

"The food was good, and we had some good wines. The ambiance was nice for a while, but some strange and loud music choices that did not fit the place (or occation) at all detracted from that. We were there for Valentines dinner. They did not serve anything from the normal menu, the only option was a fixed price menu with a glass of pink sparkling wine, an appetizer, main dish, and dessert. There were a couple of options in each category. The food was pretty good but nothing to write home about. If the price had been reasonable we would probably have left very happy. But it was quite blatantly overpriced, especially compared to the rest of the Portland food scene."

"I do like the idea of this restaurant w/ the roof top garden and local sourcing - good on ya! However, the overall execution of the meal was left lacking. The wait staff seem disinterested and like they have not gotten enough sleep in the last couple of years - a little slow. The onion rings were greasy, the pork over cooked, and they need to find another spice than salt. The decor was nice and the view of the city was not too bad."

"Service was outstanding. Waitress explanation of wine, entrees and desert was spot on. I had the special (short rib). The meat was absolutely perfect. The rib sat on top of a bed of mashed potatoes. The potatoes were tasty but had cooled a bit. They obviously plated the potatoes before the meat was ready."
