"We had a selection of tapas (5 for 2 persons), more than enough, and a bottle of wine. The latter is expensive: the cheapest, albeit good bottle is 45$. The restaurant is narrow, so you may find yourself sitting with your back to a busy pathway for the servers. Waiters were very attentive, and the food was inventive, and excellent (scallops with foie gras to die for)"

"I was in Montreal for business and found this great restaurant through Open Table. Overall it was the best dinner I had while in town. The pacing of the food was not rushed and allowed for us to enjoy our meal. I ordered the tasting menu with tapas and a fish entree. While the food was excellent, I think I would rather have ordered individual tapas off the menu as the tasting menu did not feature any unique dishes that weren't available on the regular menu. Our wonderful waiter helped us navigate the entirely Portuguese wine list and we were very happy with the wine he chose based on our taste and price range. Our favorite dish was the scallops. Don't leave without having an egg tart for dessert."

"My husband and I had dinner at Helena on Saturday evening with another couple. It was our second time at the restaurant and we enjoyed it as much as the first visit. The decor is lovely and the food even better. We sampled several tapas style dishes which were very inspired. My favorite was the the asparagus salad but the grilled calmar salad with black ink smear was also delicious. We shared 4 tapas between 3 people and one person chose a main dish of the cornish hen which looked great.Try the natas for desert, well worth the splurge of calories! There is a fun vibe to the place and is definately more refined than the sister restaurant of Portus Calle.

"The lunch time crowd is very big and the waitors did a great job juggling everything. We didnt have to wait too long for our orders and the plates were very nicely spaced apart. We were a party of 4 and had tapas, all was wonderful and gave us a perfect opportunity to see what the restaurant offers as opposed to just ordering one main dish.I would definetly recommend this place for a business lunch or just a group of friends who want to try some adventurous foods.Thank you,Josie"

"This was my first time at Helena and was expecting gret things as the owners have a lower end place on St. Laurent that is very good. I think that this place proves that fancier and more expensive isn't necessarily better. The food was ok with the only major disappointment being a tasteless skirt steak. The tapas menu provides small portions at large prices, but many are very tasty. All in all, there are way too many great restaurants in Montreal for me to return. I will go back to St. Laurent though."

"After having been to Helena previously and loving it, I suggested for a friend's birthday and was very disappointed. The majority of the dishes our guests wanted were unavailable as they were sold-out. Not having enough food for customers is inexcusable! Not to mention that we asked our waiter's wine suggestion and after describing to him the wine that we wanted, we received the exact opposite!"

"everything was really wondeful. we chose the $45 tasting menue and we each received 6 portugeuse tapas. We had chosen mackarel as 1 choice, and none of us liked it, they were so obliging and brought us some calamari, which was excellent. everything was really tasty.

"I was desapointed that we couldn't get a sitting area at our choice or suited for the occasion. When we arrived at 11h30 the restaurant just opened and was empty. . We had reserved 2 weeks prior for a business lunch and even after I mentioned it to the waiter, He told me without mentioning the table number at the reservation, I won't get an appropriate table. We were sat at the first table next to the door..Very noisy and crowed I was VERY desapointed of the service and the lack of flexibility of the staff."

"Overall great experience. We were a party of three one of us was late by 45 minutes, but the staff was very accommodating and never rushed us. We all ordered the tasting menu and were not disappointed. Great service, great food and great atmosphere. We'll be back for sure."

"It was not a great experience. Went for lunch with a friend as was thinking of going there for dinner, it was a set table d'hôtel for $21. The appetizer of octopus salad was too salty. My main dish of salmon while very pretty was absolutely tasteless. Service was excellent although a little arrogant..well the restaurant is very, very busy. The ambiance is lovely...gorgeous restaurant. The wine selection is good and the glasses of Portuguese wine from the restaurant's private selection was very good. The dessert supposedly brought as a special for us as we were not that interested in the cake offered was insipid at best. The egg tart was tough and tasteless but the fruit surrounding it was edible. Not a great lunch experience!"

"Restaurant nice...well decorated; however, we were there from 8:30 pm to midnite..Had the degustation menu with 3 bottles of wine...at the entrance totally ignored by the maitre d and passed by our table to retrieve the menus and did not utter a sound let alone a word = passed by our table numerous time during the evening and our way out the waiters thanked us and said goodnite but he wass too busy doing nothing but hanging out with his staff ... the resto was void of people. What an ambarasment to Helena. What a peacock attitude he had. Helena...get real and get rid of pretentiousness... Sad. Will never go back."
