"Open Kitchen is a terrific overall dining experience. While the food is very good, it is enhanced by being able to watch the preparation. The menu changes on a regular basis, and usually has very interesting choices and specials. A fun place to go, particularly for those who are tired of some of the stuffy restaurants in this area."

"We have had several good experiences at Open Kitchen and are going to try it one more time before striking it from our list of go-to restaurants, but last night was a disaster. It took 45 min to get some bread for the table and over an hour to get our food. The restaurant was out of several dishes that were on the menu. The food was tasty but over-salted. We were told that the poor service resulted from several groups that had arrived without reservations. The restaurant was not full but was still unprepared for the number of people who had come in. This explanation was totally unacceptable to me. A good managing chef should have had sufficient food and staffing. Sorry for the bad review, but I hope to get O.K. to improve its management."

"Last week, a student of mine told me all about how great Open Kitchen is, and so I decided to try it when a friend was visiting from Alaska. I must say it was the most delightful dining experience I've ever had. The waiter was so friendly and informative, and spent time talking with us. The ambience was warm, cozy, and beautiful. The food, last but not least, was wonderful! I declared to my friend "this is my new favorite restaurant!"."

"We used to go to Open Kitchen once a week until their prices increased to a point that it was not a several times a week neighborhood restaurant. Also their non-meat options were limited especially during the week. We gave it another try last week and alas were again disappointed.

"The food was a little disappointing -- nothing special. Unfortunately, the noise indicator in this evaluation doesn't allow a real description of how loud it was. It was so loud that you that the noise level sounded like a crowd of 1000 out in the parking lot and even though I was sitting right next to my husband in a corner table, we could not hear each other. Everyone sounded like they were screaming. It was not a relaxing evening."

"On our third visit to Open Kitchen we ordered Chicken Pot Pie with Buttermilk Biscuits, and it was unlike any other chicken pot pie we'd ever had. It was in a dark brown sauce and contained small bits of carrots, asparagus & both white and dark meat chicken. The biscuits were tasty with herbs. Although a bit too spicy for us, we enjoyed it and would probably order it again. Next time, we will order soup or some side dish because portions are small. Our primary complaint about OK is the extremely limited menu. It is very clean and the staff & service are outstanding."

"Open Kitchen remains our #1 dining spot. In fact, we can't understand why Tom Sietsema (Washington Post's foodie) hasn't bothered to come see just what they can do since they opened. (Actually, we're kind of glad he hasn't because we don't want them to become so popular we can't get squeezed in on those nights we don't make reservations.) The spring menu rocks -- carried over strengths from earlier seasons and added some new items. The Farmhouse Meatloaf has an updated recipe and is not your mother's meatloaf! Applewood bacon balanced well against the BBQ sauce in an entirely unexpected way. Artic Char was perfectly done and complemented by the salsa. Wish I could cook as well. But since I can't, we're glad Open Kitchen is close by."

"My new favorite neighborhood restaurant. Great food and service. Nice atmosphere; don't care that its ina strip mall. There is plenty of parking. The kitchen is on camera so everyone can watch and they serve seasonal, locally grown food. The timing of courses was really my favorite part. We didn't feel rushed and stayed for about two hours. Great for a date night."

"Although I fell in love with OK when it first opened, I'd stayed away for the last year or so b/c the menu and service had declined. Went back on a whim with friends this weekend and was thrilled that the old OK is back. Love the cheese and charcuterie options and the empanadas were great. My friends liked their risotto and chicken pot pie. Wine is excellent and unusually transparent (they list both the table price and the "market price"). I wholeheartedly recommend it as the best restaurant in the city of Falls Church."

"The food was good, not great, but good. The waitstaff was friendly, but the restaurant had a new menu, and it was plain our waiter did not know the menu at all. The wine list was solid and very reasonably priced. The desserts were delicious. The most appealing part was the, as-titled, open kitchen. Unfortunately, we were seated on the patio so watching the chef work was a bit difficult. I would recommend this for happy-hour and desserts."

"First visit after being recommended - VERY impressed. The food was very impressive - everything was seasoned just right, with a lot of care taken in the preparation. Some high end places overdo each dish, and they are too rich, etc - that wasn't an issue here. We went on a Saturday night early (6pm) and didn't have any issues with service - the waiters were very knowledgable, didn't hover, but were very attentive. Will definitely return."

"A fantastic evening both in terms of food and the experience. We were served by the head chef who described not only the menu options but also how they were made. They were friendly and flexible with our kids, putting together their favorite side dishes that weren't on the menu. The kids enjoyed interacting with the chefs who were happy to describe what they were doing. The friendly owner came by our table a few times and put together an appetizer sampler based on the items each of us said we liked. The appetizers were outstanding - especially the mussels. The ambiance and freshness of the food reminded us of restaurants back home in Tokyo."

"The food was good, but avoid this place in very cold weather. The walls are just flexible plastic curtains. They did have radiant heaters, but they shut them off at 8 pm. It was like outdoor dining in near freezing weather."

"We went for dinner the day after Valentines Day. We were seated quickly but after that things slowed down. Our waiter took our drink order but the drinks were slow to arrive. The salads were also slow to arrive. Our entrees arrived after we had been seated for over an hour. The waiter said the chef wasn't happy about extending the Valentines Menu. There was only one vegetarian entree which was good but the carrots were still crunchy. The pineapple upside down polenta cake was the best part of the meal. This was our third visit and the food and service was better on the previous visits. I think the staff was worn out from the night before."

"Finally decided to check this place out. Great staff, friendly service, and good food. Its no 2941 or extremely high end restaurant but for the price it is very gourmet. We had outstanding food (far better than some of the DC top 100 places) and decided we would go back!"

"My family visited Open Kitchen on the advice of a friend, and we found the food to be absolutely delicious and the service excellent. The wine list is respectable, though not on par with some other moderately upscale restaurants (e.g., Fleming's Steakhouse). The only complaint anyone in my party had is that the portion sizes for the entrees are rather modest, though the salad/starter and dessert courses are more appropriately sized. Those of us who ordered all three courses were satisfied without being overly full, but those who skipped the salad left still somewhat hungry. Overall, if you don't have an unusually big appetite and don't plan to skip the starter or the dessert, Open Kitchen is definitely worth visiting."

"The steamed mussels appetizer and Grand Marnier pot au creme dessert -- fabulous! Very good duck confit cassoulet; sea scallops/chile-grits cake was good. Excellent waiter, Adam S, helped choose wines. Two of us enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching the cooks; larger parties probably are seated at tables, where 4 or more can converse more easily, on the heated patio. We'll go again!"

"Open Kitchen was a great destination. As the name implies, the kitchen is open for diners to watch. If you are not seated next to the kitchen area, there are television screens showing the action. We had a nice table in the covered, heated patio-like area. On our next trip I'll request seats at the extensive bar overlooking the kitchen area. The restaurant does special events, and we are looking at using it for a baby shower."

"Open kitchen was an unrushed enjoyable night out. The waiter knew the wines and the food was good. Some of the dishes unexpectedly had hot spice ingredients i.e., the potato and bacon soup and the meatloaf dish. The patio, which was inclosed and toasty in February, was extremely loud. If you want to speak softly, reserve a table inside."

"The service was outstanding. I ordered the scallops and they were cooked to perfection. I would also recommend the raviolo stuffed with butternut squash. My friend ordered the mussels and she said they were delicious. This place is a hidden gem and I would definitely go back."
