"The food is delicious and plentiful. I would go there again. It is one of the best kept secrets in the city that should be exposed. The drinks were very tasty and refreshing. The servicer was attentive. It's a great place for a special occasion or just to go hang out and have a drink. Also there is jazz in the evening which is a nice touch."

"Always love Hal's. Healthy, delicious food in a cool place with great jazz on Sunday and Monday nights. Only one complaint. An otherwise perfect salad was much too cold when served. It had obviously been plated and refrigerated hours before. Too bad. Everything else was wonderful!"

"The food is delicious but they upcharge you for every substitution you make. Almost all of the dishes have potatoes and if you want to substitute a vegetable it's an extra $2 or $3. Mixed drinks are very expensive. Dinner for 4 with 3 glasses of wine and 2 mixed drinks was over $300."

"It had been years since I have been to Hal's and it holds up well. I still find the dining room noisy on weekend with such a large bar but still a warm dining room. The menu was interesting with plenty of seasonally appropriate options. My salmon was fantastic."

"All-in-all we had a good time. Pretty high noise level, so hard to talk without having to speak very loudly. Waiter messed up order a few times, and fish was under done even though a specific request was made to make sure it was well done. But, given how busy the place was, mistakes are bound to happen. Seeing as we were not in a hurry, it was not a big deal. We would certainly come back."

"I love to go to a restaurant which has great food and mellow jazz. The food at Hal's is such that you can have small plates if you're watching or a feast if you're not. Sunday nights are a favorite since I like to meet friends who enjoy this ambiance. The wine list is adequate, but the cocktails and beer seem to be more popular.
My friends and I like to share and talk, letting the evening unfold with good food among good company.
Highly recommended and we'll be going back soon."

"we took friends out to Hals to celebrate a birthday. We requested a booth and were accomodated. The drinks and wine list were impressive and reasonable. The food was amazing. we started at the top and worked our way down sampling several dishes. Most impressive and outstanding dishes included - lamb meatballs, freshly prepared acorn squash ravioli and the duck. The lamb shank was also very good. The sauces are excellent in taste and not too heavy. Best wedge salad we ever had. Our only complaint is that our waiter seemed aloof at times and tried rushing us. We told him, we wnated a relaxing evening and were going to sample several dishes. Afer we ordered three items, he asked us if we wanted dessert and coffee???"

"you really are not interested in hearing real feedback when you put a response like "don't recall" or "energetic" for noise. REALLY? How could anyone not recall how NOISY that place is. We had to yell to hear each other during dinner. It is insulting to me that you would allow a "poor" or "fair "response for other elements but not for "noise" which tells me that you really do not want to hear about your biggest weakness. I guess we have to blog about it."

"Since I live in the neighborhood, Hal's has been my go-to place for several years. Yes, it's very noisy, but that seens to be true for many hot spots in LA. I always get the turkey burger, which I think is the best around. But I've also been pleased with the desserts and appetizers I've tried at Hals and the servers are usually pretty sharp. It is also open late during the week, which is nice if you just want to hang out and have a cup of coffee with a friend. For the best bang for your buck, go on a Sunday or Monday evening for the free jazz. It's going to be noisy no matter what, but it works for me."

"Very busy and energetic (loud). Dining experience was very pleasant. I didn't enjoy my turkey burger but very much enjoyed a friends Organic Tofu dish. I sent my burger back once b/c I asked for well done and it was very pink. Second burger was cooked but I didn't enjoy flavor. The Tofu dish was delish. We had a very large group (17). Our reservation was there and the hostess graciously added two more seats for us and seated us 10 minutes early. The wait staff (Jose)was great and attentive including the bus boys...shout out to Joaquin! The owner was there and was gracious and friendly."

"Hal's is the modern day Cheers! You can hang at the bar and make new friends from the surrounding Venice neighborhood and take in the game while enjoying delicious drinks or...you can enjoy a sit down meal. Menu has a great variety and... The Turkey burger is amazing! Bonus...live jazz sunday and monday nights starting at around 8 PM. Never know who you are going to see as the word is out that this is a classy spot with great food and folks!"

"Love this place and the atmosphere. Its very energetic and they have some great artwork. The food and wine selection here are amazing. This was my second time here. Went with a group the first time and had a blast with a bottle of wine and sharing some appetizers. The second time here was date night. The food and wine were perfect but could not say the same about the service. Our server was terrible. She forgot things such as no raisins on my chicken and to bring our wine. Me and my date ended up eating our meals at different times. Will go back to this place anytime as long as we don't have the nutty waitress. Great for date night or going with a group. Recommend the fries with truffle oil, the braised chicken, and the rib eye."

"Some people may enjoy Hal's but it definitely was not for me. The place was so loud that we literally had to shout at our table to be heard. Our table was near the bar and people hanging out at the bar were practically standing on top of our table. Not good."

"This was my third time to the restaurant and probably my least favorite meal overall, but generally the food is very good. The restaurant is very noisy so don't expect to have a quiet, romantic evening. Great bar scene and place to get together with a more energetic group."

"Service was lacking, at times when we were dependent on our staff. We were seated early and stated clearly at least 3 times that we were being joined by 2 others at a designated (reservation) time. We were seated upstairs so had no view of the front door. When our guests arrived they were unsuccessful in CONVINCING the hostess that they were to be seated w us. Because it is so noisy in this restaurant and because we didn't expect their call, we didn't receive their call They persevered and insisted to the hostess that they should be seated. We chalked it up to the possibility that even the hostess can't hear what's going on. As I left the restaurant, I noticed lots of ppl huddled together, defensively, so they could hear one"
