Mockingbird Bistro Wine Bar combines Sheely’s Texas roots with a style of cooking that he knows well, that of the Riviera, specifically the French Riviera. At Mockingbird, the feel of the menu is "country-French-meets-American-market." Sheely updates the menu seasonally to take advantage of the ingredients available at-market, as well as to give him the freedom to exercise his creativity.

"The Mockingbird Bistro is an off the beaten path gem. Eclectic rich styling, wonderfully diverse menu. My wife and I have eaten here a few times and each time it has been an excellent experience. We took a party of 6 to Mother's Day Brunch and the food and service were great."

"There were a small number of items we ordered that were outstanding. Among these were the French Onion soup and the Scallops entree. Most other items ordered were quite good but in our opinion not completely worth the rather steep menu price paid. There was also one entree that I would consider sub-par. The Buffalo (bison) ribeye was flavorful, but somewhat tough and chewy. I suspect this may have been due to how it was cooked. Being predominantly or totally grass-fed, bison steak should be cooked at lower temp and more slowly. I suspect this was seared over high heat more like a prime corn-fed piece of beef. That said, service was outstandng and the ambience very good. A very nice overall dining experience if a bit pricey."

"So many wonderful plates to choose from that our server actually suggested taking a few things I wanted to try and make my own plate. What a fabulous idea!!! It was not only presented with such great service, but was absolutely scrumptious!!! I can't wait to go back again!"

"Dined here many times but not recently. Really marginal quality fish overlooked and dry lamb chops and vegetables seemed like they had been kept under a heat lamp. Tenderloin quail special overcooked. Did the waiter forget to put in order? Service very slow we were seated upstairs and forgotten."

"One of Houston's "go-to" restaurants. Between the four of us, we had a fantastic steak, great halibut, and wonderful salmon. They are still making the steak tartare appetizer, but it's off the menu. The chef is always on site and in view - every time I've been there. A solid, great restaurant."

"I have been meaning to go to Mockingbird for a while now and finally decided to go for my birthday. Had the beef carpaccio and the tuna. Both were incredibly good. My husband had the duck which he loves. Will definitely go back soon. I hear happy hour is very good there so I definitely want to try that on another visit."

"I have been to this restaurant several time. Each time it has been excellent. This was the case again on my last visit. We started with salads, which were very nice. We both had fish entrees. My salmon was done very well. Dessert (crepes) were good. The wine and mix drinks were also very good. The atmosphere and pace of the dinner were also very good. I highly recommend this restaurant."

"In deed it was a special occasion for me (Mom and Dad)from Houston and my son from New York, a political analyst with CNBC & MSNBC. We had an incident upon entering. With a snide and surprised look from the greeter-women at the door upon our entrance, we were asked had if we had reservations. As if we did not belong. The gentlemen before us was never asked.Rack of Lamp and Chicken D was extremely salty.Server 87 was very cordial and friendly."

"The food was very good but the service was terrible. If you don't drink alcohol I would not go to this place. The server ignored us and was all over his other two tables that were drinking alcohol. My guess is it is because there bill would be higher so the tip would be more. We sat for a long time with our napkins on our plates before the dishes were removed from our table. I was going to order dessert but by the time he asked we had already been at that place for 2 hours. The man at the next table did not help either his voice was very loud and with the tables so close to each other it was very distracting. For a $100 plus meal what a disappointment. Go to Mark's American Cuisine it is more expensive but worth the money."

"I met my mother (in her late 70's) for lunch. She had valuables in the back of her car, so she didn't want to valet park. Also, valet parking would have meant she stop her car in traffic, get out of the car on the traffic side, then cross traffic to get to the restaurant. Not only should senior citizens not be asked to do this, no one should. Instead, she followed the sign on the restaurant's awning to park in the lot south of and adjacent to the restaurant. The lot entrance was only partially blocked with orange cones, so she entered and parked. The valet hustled over, not to help her in any manner, but to tell her that she had to valet. She did not listen. Mockingbird needs to reconsider its policy of valet. It's unsafe and harassing."

"We found Mockingbird Bistro on a trip to Houston June 2012. My husband and I loved it so much we returned for a second night (and have never done that before). So when we found ourselves in Houston unexpectedly last week, we chose Mockingbird again - this time with our 4 kids. Our kids are pretty adventurous and appreciated the "compliments of the chef" ceviche starter and the truffles at the end of the meal. I didn't check kid-friendly because it depends on your kids. Ours loved it"

"I was looking for a romantic spot to celebrate a milestone event and came across this gem. Mockingbird has a wonderful decadent and sexy feel and ambiance; the staff are attentive and professional; and the food is fabulous. Really good produce doesn't need to be 'accessorised' too much and the Chef here has it just right. We have the rack of lamb, the duck and the salmon. All perfect. All up, probably the nicest meal we've had in Houston."

"Stopped in for Dinner while out in Houston for a wedding. My wife who's the foodie got the recommendation from the Groom who lives right around the corner, and I have to say he know's his resturants. My favorite experience was the Wine List. My wife and I both work in the industry and the Mockingbird is above and beyond in this category.
Ashley Moore's the General manager and we got talking about the list and she recommended some great finds. I was especially impressed with her hidden gems.... (Can you say Finca Domingo's 2011 Torrontes or the Hourglass Blue line Vineyards Merlot?)

"Everything was good, but not as good as it could have been. The salmon entree had a very noticeable fishy odor. The service staff was plentiful and sincere, but lacking a certain experience level. I was very disappointed to be seated in the back room when the front room had open tables since the front room has lots of ambiance while the back room has very little."

"Had our anniversary celebration here. Great spot for nice conversation. Attentive staff but not intrusive. Management recognize us by sending over chocolate truffles on a plate decorated with "Happy Anniversary" again friendly, attentive but not overbearing or intrusive."

"My husband and I love Mockingbird Bistro and have been for lunch and dinner multiple times. The food is always excellent and the ambiance is really wonderful. The Kobe Burger and the Mussels are some of our favorite dishes that we order almost every time we go. The wine and cocktail list is also very good. Definitely a place you can go for a special occasion or just a dinner out. Fabulous."

"It was so nice to go to a romantic restaurant at a nice restaurant that is not ridiculously loud. That is a problem most nice restaurants have in Houston with the exception of Mockingbird. Additionally the food was fantastic. I have the scallops which were very flavorful while my husband had the lamb which was cooked perfectly. I also recommend ending the meal with their baked apple bread pudding...it was amazing."
