"The best (wine bars) like Stonehome Wine Bar, give the culinary as much attention as the oenological…. Chef Gibson is certainly unafraid to offer hearty fare with flavors that challenge-and amplify- those of the wine." Andrea Thompson – tables for Two – New Yorker.
"We went here mainly because it is close to BAM. What a marvelous surprise it was to find excellent, creative cooking going on. As real foodies, my friend and I enjoyed the subtle flavors and beautiful plating. A great experience."

"Loved the fiddlehead fern and ramp pastas, and great charcuterie, but the bread was basic baguette only, and the wine was OK only -- not what I was expecting from a place that bills itself as a top NYC wine bar."

"Stonehome has been on my list of restaurants to try for some time now. I'm glad I did. My experience surpassed any expectations. The customer service was outstanding (many restaurants could take note). The quality of the food was superb and portion size was just right. And of course, can't forget about the wine. My fiancé and I chose the tasting of 3 wines. The selection was top notch. We can't wait to return."

"I love the food here- kale salad was a healthier version of Caesar salad, kale leaf was fresh. Not too much sauce on the juicy roasted duck I had as entrée."

"Food was good: kale salads; chicken liver pâté w/cornichins and toast; crab cake. Service attentive and cognizant of our curtain time. Music on the loud side--hard to converse--tho' waitperson lowered volume at our request. Good coffee in a cafetiere. Space is beyond cozy, more like cramped; downstairs from street level. Did not see much of restaurant as we were seated at a table shoehorned in by the front door, and didn't push farther into the establishment. Would probably return to try other offerings on the menu, which is small but thoughtful."

"We have been to Stonehome a number of times before BAM performances. We always enjoy our meal. The menu, though not extensive, has interesting items. The dishes are thought out and prepared well. The service is friendly and efficient."

"I found the Stonehome Wine Bar in a number of google searches for the best places to eat near the Barclay center. I had both the Italian and French read wine flights (so i was buzzing) and thought the wines were excellent. As i read in other reviews the food was good but the portions were small (this was fine for my wife but I have a bigger appetite) - i solved this by ordering a couple of small plates and cheese along with my main meal. We got there early (5:15) so it was not crowded but I can see the seating getting really tight when it is crowded. Typical NY, small tables, close quarters, etc. The service was very good, everyone was friendly and it was not pretentious at all (which wine bars tend to be). I'd go back."

"Stonehome was an accidental choice for dinner between two plays at BAM -- and what a treasure it was. The scallops were perfectly delicious, the wine flight was well matched with the entree -- generous portions too -- and the cheese selection for afters was lovely. The service was unobtrusive, though quietly attentive -- what more could one want?"

"My daughter used to live right up the street so we were among the first customers when Stonehome opened. Because I live in New England and don't have many opportunities to visit Brooklyn as I used to, I make Stonehome my top restaurant priority. I love the chance to taste wines I would otherwise not experience. The menu may be limited but everything is always excellent. The tile fish was perfectly cooked and presented. Although the pasta dish I had was a little salty it was delicious. I also like the smaller portions and very reasonable prices. We are never rushed even though the Bar has become very popular. My daughter had her baby with us and since there is no changing station they had an awkward diaper change."

"Made a last minute decision to come. GREAT surprise. Did not know this place but liked a lot. All the food was great. Kale salad and liver pate to start - and the PASTAS were AMAZING We shared one of each - both outstanding. Pecan dessert was a treat. Nice wine by the glass. A solid meal without being stuffed. Great find I will go back."

"Went to Sthonehome before a concert at Barclays Center. Wanted to have a nice leisurely meal before the concert so needed to find a place that would take reservations and would be closeby. Was a very good choice, seating was prompt. Menu is rather small, but there is a good selection and also different ways to build your meal, from regular apps and entrees or with small plates, charcuterie, etc... I wouldn't call this place romantic as others have seemed to indicate. The noise level can get loud, especially with suburban housewives talking at full volume being so excited to be out of the house."

"I've been here many times -- it's a perfect pre- or post-show dinner spot near the Brooklyn Academy of Music -- but generally thought the food was only mediocre. This time, though, I thought the food was really excellent. Of course, this is primarily a wine bar, and the wine list is outstanding, with the food menu being rather short. But I was glad to discover that the dinner need no longer be the disappointing part of the experience. (We did have to wait about a half hour for our entrees, so I'm hoping that was just an anomaly.) Bravo!"
