"Good location, with easy walk from 14th St. subway. Our table was ready when we arrived. Service was excellent, waitress friendly and attentive, but never intrusive. "Adult beverage" offerings adequate for most any taste. Menu was very comprehensive, and had sufficient variety for almost any palate. Ordered various items from soup, hot appetizers, entrees, and dessert, and each was presented hot from the kitchen. I would rate the quality of the food very highly. It's by no means cheap (almost $220 for a party of two, one of whom doesn't drink), but that was fully expected and is not offered as a criticism, just a heads-up. Seated in a small side room called the South SDR(?), so noisy conversation almost impossible. Stay away from that room!"

"This was a fantastic dining experience! I took my boyfriend for his birthday and we could not have been happier. The restaurant itself is not just gorgoues, but fascinating to look at and watch as people are walking on different levels, glass walls between tables, open kitchen, and at least 5 people came to our table during the night, making the service more than friendly. Our waiter was both knowledgeable, specific, and meticulous, but also had a great sense of humor. The food was delicious, impeccable. However, it's not that each of the three elements, design, service, food, were fantastic, it was that all three were always part of the experience the whole time. A MUUST!!!"

"I chose the omasake, or tasting menu. A few things really stood out on the tasting menu, including the oyster foie gras, fluke sashimi, and the Wagyu strip which is part of the surf and turf entrée. The very expensive ($28) toro tartare was okay, but I'd never, ever pay $28 for that. Unfortunately, the dessert -- a blood orange tiramisu -- was stale. Neither I nor my companion finished it.
If I ordered everything à la carte from the regular menu it would've been about $150-$160 (can't be exact since I don't know one of the prices). The omasake was $120, however to me as a diner, it was worth about $80. I recommend ordering what you like and skipping the omasake...and skipping the dessert."

"Although we'd dined at Morimoto previously, this was the first time we tried the omakase. It was fabulous and well worth the cost! Unlike most tasting menus, where every course is small, there were lots of smaller, but not tiny, courses and one "main course" that was full size. I thought it was a bit too much, though those with heartier appetites might be very pleased. The room is beautiful, we had an excellent table and service was wonderful. When I was unable to finish dessert, the manager came to ask if I didn't like it and wanted a substitution. I was just overstuffed."

"We started out with some drinks; woman had a Lychee-tini which was delicious and I had a White Lily, both were amazing. For appetizers, we ordered: bbq eel and avocado roll, soft shell crab roll, the half dozen oysters, and tuna pizza. The rolls were fresh, but nothing I have not tasted before. The oysters were delicious while the tuna pizza was out of this world with a spicy mayo based sauce. For entrees, she had Angry chicken, which was on a spicy side but very tasty while I had surf and turf, with wagyu steak with hamachi ribbons in an avocado salad and small potatoes. Delicious. We finished the night with 2 desserts: a warm chocolate cake and a torte. Both delicious. We will definitely be back again."

"Overall experience was very pleasant - food was exquisite, service was amazing. The only problem is pretty loud music, not something you would want to hear while enjoying a meal, but more of a clubbing style. It also was a bit too loud, sometimes we had to lean toward one another to hear what we were saying. Other than that, this is a place to come back to."

"The kitchen may have been entirely off when we visited (Friday, 2/12), but our meal was horrendous. Taste, texture, temperature, visual appeal and even ease of consumption were all lacking. Example: a mushroom, topped by a cooked oyster, topped by a tiny piece of foie gras, with a brown sauce: first imagine what this pile looked like (a pile of brown in a little white bowl). The sauce was so strong on salt and umami that I literally was thrown back in my chair: it tasted like thinned Marmite and overwhelmed even the foie gras. The textures were terrible together. The seared fluke, thinly sliced, was a messy plate and lukewarm, rather than chilled inside and warm where seared. The Wagyu beef was destroyed by over-cooking. A total disaster."

"No detail is spared at Morimoto, including service. Upon arrival of each dish, the server presented it specifying the main ingredients & flavors. Each dish looked gorgeous as well, with delicious flavors exciting my palate. The food was inspired and outright amazing while drinks were just as creative and flavorful. Shrimp that melted in our mouths, perfectly seasoned/cooked fish and steak, scrumptious appetizers, original cocktails, EVERYTHING was amazing. I really cannot give Morimoto enough praise, the dining experience was top notch and we felt like stars with the very friendly and attentive treatment we were given. In addition, the environment is visually stunning and a nice contrast from the every day; the music is the cherry on top!"

"My boyfriend and I dined at Morimoto during restaurant week, and the R.W. menu left more than a little to be desired. Although our appetizer of creamy crab croquettes was excellent, the main course was entirely underwhelming. My "fishwich" resembled a McDonalds McFish sandwich in every way, down to the inclusion of American cheese (except that it only came with four fried onion strips instead of a whole box of fries!). My boyfriend's "angry chicken" was good, but nothing special. The only dessert option was a white chocolate panna cotta, which was creamy, smooth, and delicious. I can honestly say that the best part of the meal was my cocktail (the "orange blossom" which consists of mango tea, rum, champagne, and muddled orange)."

"Overall a great experience, although the rstrnt deocr is a little over the top, slightly outdated, too. The decor would have been cool 10 years ago, needs an update. The host/hostess were too aloof and the orange curtain that blocks the front door entrance has to go, it was hard to find the front door because of the curtain. Food was wonderful, service was fantastic."

"Both the avid dinner and adventurous eater can find true foodie happiness at Morimoto. It was a unique pleasure and the food was spectacular. The toro tartare and wagyu carpaccio are must-have starters. If there is fresh uni or foogoo on the menu, take advantage of the rare opportunity. And with the exception of a Florentine steak at a 600-year-old restaurant in Florence, Italy, I've never had a better steak than the wagyu filet. A word of caution is in order. If you are on a budget, Morimoto is not the place to go. To really experience what this restaurant has to offer, don't pinch your pennies. This is no place to hold back, so do it right. Lastly, the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and were attentive for the three hours we dined."

"Expectations might have been a bit too high, being at Morimoto's the first time. After studying his cooking style and his book, I assumed to be treated to something that would prove that I actually can't cook, and which might even make me want to change my religion. Morimotesianese...? The food was indeed very good, the menu and wine list had surpringsingly decent pricing, the atmosphere was modern/cool/chique though not overly generous, all in all a great fancy package. But the taste of the food - not the presentation - is nothing you have to come all the way to New York for. Perhaps going mainstream means that your dishes loose their edge; going for the masses seems to result in everything tasting a bit more "normal", a bit more ordinary."

"Restaurant was nearly empty at 7:00 PM when we arrived, but completely filled up by 7:30 PM. Unfortunately, the kitchen became a little backed up as a result, and our main courses came out a little late. However, the food was excellent overall--great appetizers, small dishes, main courses, and side items. The wine selection was good as well."
