"Unplanned, our second time in Buddakan in 10 days; fortunately, this time was much, much better. Drinks, apps and mains we would order all again. A trainee was shadowing our waiter; even she was on point. So relieved to know that Buddakan is not starting to slip as so many successful restaurants do over time."

"I made a same day reservation for a wedding anniversary dinner for 6:45PM. We arrived on time and were immediately taken to a very romantic corner table on the main level. The staff made every effort to make it a special evening. We were immediately brought glasses of champagne to start the evening. Although a sampler menu is not normally available for small groups, Joel Michel (the manager) agreed to provide a special menu for my wife and I to choose from. The service was fantastic, the food was out of this world and the ambiance was just perfect. This was our second great dining experience at Buddakan in under a year, the first being a birthday celebration with a group of eight. We hope to come back for many more great experiences!"

"doesn't look very spectacular from outside but much more once you got inside, absoulutely fantastic!! not cheap but definitly worth it, a bit loud for european ears but typically new york - but thats just why you get there!

"The food was delicious - We had a very nice time celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. Only one down side - the table was a little too dark - dark enough that reading the menu was hard if you were not sitting under the small spot lights. But if I had to choose, I would still sit there - the other areas were more open and noisy and/or tables were close to others. Otherwise, you couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu.."

"We had a late evening slot and arrived 30 mins prior to our meal. We were advised to join the bar... Only there was not enough room at the bar! It was slightly over crowded and not many places to sit down while waiting. But this did not dampen our night. Our table was running 25minutes late, but staff were very apologetic about this. We were seated at 10pm at a wonderful table overlooking the huge staircase!
We had a great waitress and was very entusiastic and commented on all the dishes and gave reccomendations. We decided to go on her choice - And it didnt fail in taste!! I have had no other food like this place! Im hoping they open up soon in London! It would be amazing and so popular here!
Would definitely reccoment this place!"

"Took family from out of town to Buddakan. The food was amazing as always. Edemame dumplings and filet are a must. Carrot cake was exceptional. Service was impeccable. The meal was paced perfectly. Everyone left extremely happy. I will always take my out of town guests here. It is so constistently wonderful. And the downstairs main dining room is such a beautiful and elegant attraction. The noise level is definitely a little high.... But I really can't complain. We had the best time! I could eat the whole meal again today!"

"Great place. The service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and the food was great. It was a little loud. The setting was not romantic, but I was still pleasantly pleased with the experience. My wife was impressed with the quality of our meal- that meant the most. It Defintely didn't feel like we were in nyc. We escaped for a while. The cocktails were fantastic. Thier "fate" cocktail is totally worth trying. Fun place. Going back- soon!"

"amazing food. the place is hard to notice from the outside as its just a big grey block with a small sign. It's very dark on the inside with no windows. There are a number of different dining rooms. Selection and food was fantastic!"

"We were visting New York and recommended this restaurant by friends in Sydney and London who had both been. The venue itself is rather unique, completely unexpected and rather spectacular. The food was fastastic and I still find myself thinking about one entree in particular....pity it's so far from Australia! Definitely recommend visiting, a great experience."

"The decor and ambience of the restaurant always brings me back! It is great for groups or for an intimate night out. "Traveled here w girlfriend for a long weekend and wanted to try some nice restaurants. The only negative was that our reservation was for 1015 and we got there @ 10:18 and we had to wait 20-25 minutes to be seated. It was pretty hectic because the bar at the front of the restaurant was really packed and the employee who checked us In just told us to wonder around In the front room for an unspecified amount of time. They amazingly found us 10 min later and asked me if we wanted to wait to be seated in a quieter place. The man was really apologetic about our waiting and after that the evening was great.
Excellent food and the ambience of the whole restaurant is extremely unique, you will not find a place like this in Texas!"

"We had a 45 minute wait in the crowded bar for our 9.15 table. Poor start. The service was awful. Our waiter was unhelpful and frankly rude. One of our mains was so late arriving that we had finished the other dishes and it ended up being sent back. The food was also pretty lousy. The dishes are neither clever nor inventive. Flavours were poorly balanced with basic things going awry like the sauces not complimenting the dishes. A big disappointment."

"The food was great including the mushroom chow mien, the shrimp dumplings were delicious and the mongolian lamb chops were cooked to perfection with every bite thought out and every texture present. The flavors the food presented were nothing short of great. The one upsetting aspect of our experience was that our waiter seemed to be in a hurry to move us along and get our order in. We were trying to just enjoy the time and the waiter was being a bit pushy in trying to force our order. Aside from this, the waiter was very knowledgable and helpful with the menu and trying to cater to the customer's palate."

"Went as a couple to Buddakan and was welcomed by a nice young waitress that gave us the menus. I assume, too bad for us, a tall guy then took over. When going to a restaurant of such class you don’t expect the answer to a wine recommendation to be “that depends what you like” and then he leaves… very strange behaviour. The white wine was then served with room temperature.
The food was very good. Especially the cod."

"Some reinventions were a hit - a more refined chow fun noodle with wild mushrooms, a ma poe tofu and shrimp toast were the very very good. Some were not as great -- everything tasted good it was just that some items don't compare to your 'favorite' version at a chinese restaurant you have been to before. The drink menu featured several awesome cocktails."

"Buddakan is a favorite of mine. Yes it is pricey. But the food is well worth it. The portions are not huge. But that is because everything is tapas like--small plates that are meant to be shared. And and again though pricey on surface with drinks I spent no more money than I would have at any other finer dining establishment. And the food is well worth it because the plates may be small but they are packed with it flavor. The service was some of the best I have ever experienced at any restaurant and the atmosphere is always incredible. Great for dinner for 2 or 10. And again the quality of the food is really unmatched by most other Asian restaurants. Buddakan gets an A+++++ in my book!"

"I have been in NYC for a couple of days now, and to be honest have been largely disappointed with the food. Most restaurants are overpriced and deliver sub par service. NOT BUDAKHAN!!! Coming from Glasgow, I have had my fair share of Chinese meals, none were a patch on the food here. We had a mixed starter, (bo bo plate) it was brilliant, but if we went back, I would be all over the boneless ribs. For mains, we shared pepper beef and a scallop dish, both of which were superb. Sausage fried rice was novel if a little underwhelming, but the real pick of the bunch was the prawn udon. This when really well with both the beef (surprisingly) and the scallops.
The drinks were well priced too."

"The women staffing the reservations desk were obnoxious, and seemingly oblivious to concerns about whether my reservation would be honored in a timely fashion. Once seated, however, the rest of the staff seemed pleasant and competent."

"This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I've been on several occasions and this time was for my bday. Drinks and food were delicious as always, however it felt rushed. We had a later reservation, and would have enjoyed a casual, intimate dinner. there were no breaks in between the apps and entrees which left us stuffed with no breathing time - I was so stuffed by the end I could not fnished the meal and had no room for their amazing desserts. I'm not sure if the fault lies with the waiter or kitchen but a leisurely dinner was not in the cards"

"Is anyone else noticing a slip in Buddakan? Always our favorite Asian restaurant, we were disappointed in just about everything except the carrot dumplings. The waiter was listless and perfunctory. The martinis have been great: not this night: lukewarm and flat. Shrimp and Udon noodles only average and like the drink lukewarm. The cauliflower is okay. We have another reservation in a few weeks (made much earlier) and then we'll see...."

"Outstanding is just a small word to describe how AMAZING its this place!! We came a bit early and we were sat at the bat for a beautiful coktail,then 1 of the staff came to bring us to our table. Decor, the table setting, the atmosphere, was incredible.
Service was great, and the food... Simply the best!!! Just amazing!!! We shared 3 dishes, and im still dreaming about the carott dumpling it was delicious. Then we had each a main course, i had the black pepper beef, well , how to say, STUNNING!!!
When i did the open table booking few months ago, i asked them if they can do something for my partner s birthday, and when the desert came, a hppy birtday message was writen on the plate!
