"Even though we made reservations, we had to wait for more than 1 hour to be seated. We waited in the bar area, which was overcrouded. After we finally sat down, I have to say the food was amazing (specially the meatballs!!!)."

"Despite the 1.5 hour wait beyond our reservation & the mix of Euro-trash, BnT posers, hipsters & pseudo-professionals, Lavo was excellent. For the wait, we were offered complimentary drinks, appetizers & desserts. The staff , particularly our waiter Dan, couldn't have been more accommodating or professional. Dan was familiar with all of the dishes, delivered food himself and called us by name, as did the manager who made his way to us mid-meal to make sure we were satisfied. Aside from the fact that the customer service was beyond excellent, every dish we had was fantastic. And as far as the eclectic crowd, they are all part of what makes this place great. No pretension, no arrogance, no pompousness, just great food, a good vibe & a DJ."

"Second time I visited LAVO. First time I can't recall much. Serious jetlag coming directly form Europe. Although...I remembered I liked the food.
Second time more awake. LAVO looks good. The crowd is diverse. A lot of flashy, young people, but also a part of the audience is more mature. Service is well organized. Our waitress was great, quick, to the point and everything went smoothly. The served food was outstanding. Nice, fresh salads. Good seasoned main dish (king prawns with linguini) and a well tasting desert (raspberry panna cotta). Good coffee, but you might expect that at an Italian oriented restaurant.
Everything was well portioned. Not cheap but also not 'over the top'.
In short, the 4 of us had a very pleasant evening at LAVO !"

"After spending my birthday dinner a couple weeks ago at Bagatelle and being extremely disappointed, I kind of unfairly assumed a similar place like Lavo would be much more of the same. I couldn't have been more wrong.
The service, food, quality of menu, wine list, AND portion size were all excellent. Even my dad liked it and he hates trendy, expensive restaurants! The best part was, despite being a super classy place, the atmosphere was relaxed. At Bagatelle, we were told we had to leave in 2 hours (of course if you spend enough money, the manager will use his discretion to decide if you can stay longer). There was none of that and we were never made to feel unwelcomed.
5 stars. Definitely will go back. Worth every penny."

"It was a disaster.
We arrived at the right time and waited for more than one hour. The team was totally disorganized and let other couples that arrived later to sit before us.
I complained several times and they offered us free drinks in order to gain more time. Instead of free drinks, we wanted to have dinner on time!
Besides that, they also didnt let us get into the dance club downstairs. They charged us USD 30/person to get in.
The food was good though and arrived fast after we sit.

That's what happened to me: had to leave the restaurant and get into the line to enter the club. But, as you NYC folks know, this is when things get complicated. The security guy (or the doorman, if you wish) wanted a US$100 bribe. I don't bribe. Ever."

"Received a phone call the day of our reservation confirming our 9:30p seating. The Lavo employee said that if our whole party wasn't present by 9:45p they would give our reservation up. We were all there at 9:15p. We didn't get seated until 10:40p. Gave us complementary drink voucher at 10:30p. The food was good - can find the same quality many times over in other NYC restaurants. Very loud as well. Wouldn't run back."

"The food was good but was disappointed that I was never given any larger than a plate to eat off of than the one that was at the table when I first arrived that I'm assuming was for my bread that came soon after sitting down. To try and eat pizzeria off of that small of a plate was a bit challenging so I ended up leaving 75% of it behind."

"This was my second time at LAVO and found the food to be of high quality again. At the table the waiter spilled an entire glass of water on me and made a feeble attempt at providing me with something to mop up my suit. The most annoying part, however, was the sound level--it was unbearable. The action at some tables with groups was borderline debauchery. I had a hoarse throat the next day from having to scream in order to converse with our table guests.
To top it off, the table staff mixed up our take-home leftovers (discovered you-know-when).

"We were there for my daughters 16th BDay and have to say the entire team at Lavo made it very special. They went above and beyond especially Daniel our server was fantastic, friendly and attentive.

"Overall good but our waiter didn't pay much attention to us. When the table next to us was filled he paid more attention to them. It was my fiances birthday and he didn't even get the "hint" that I wanted a candle in dessert so the birthday surprise didn't even happen."

"The food was delicious and the vibe of the restaurant was very lively and fun. The only thing I didn't like was that there wasn't much space between my chair and the woman sitting behind me. Our chairs were back to back with each other and the servers weren't able to pass through. The people sitting next to me struggled to exit the restaurant and so did I."

"Lavo is dramatically overpriced for the type of food they are serving. The service was good and the ambiance was nice but the restaurant staff are full of themselves. They called me to tell me that all members of my party should be present and on time or we would lose our reservation and the funny thing is nobody was there. It was empty. Very obnoxious due to the fact that they are attached to the club."

"Great experience and the food was fantastic! The service was superb and we were treated exceptionally well. It was my son's birthday, and I made a special note to have a candle on his dessert selection. They not only had a candle, they wrote happy birthday Justin on his plate. Truly special."

"The food at Lavo lacks subtlety and sophistication. Sauces and seasonings drown the food, overwhelm the flavor and made the dishes we had unedible. I never thought a beet salad could be ruined, but it was, as we're the other appetizers and entrees. The food was not good."

"Great for a business lunch. Perfect variety of food, always well-prepared, and most of all, you can get in and out in an hour/hour and 15 minutes! Staff is accommodating of special requests. Service seems to have picked up significantly since the last time I was there. In the past, it seemed like you were always looking for your waiter, which caused me to pass on Lavo for a while. They seemed more interested in standing around and looking cool than doing their jobs. And the din of "club" like music at lunch was a problem for conversation. That's all gone now and the place seems to hum for lunch--efficient, professional, and energetic. Would strongly recommend to others."

"I've seen less that favorable reviews on different web sites for Lavo, so I was cautiously optimistic about taking my partner here for our 7 year anniversary dinner. Honestly, based on our experience, those other reviews are dead wrong. Our meals were absolutely fantastic. The portions are very generous, and each course arrived quickly. Our server was really wonderful. She was friendly, warm, and very accommodating. All of the servers in our section seemed great. I observed them chatting with the customers and frequently sharing a laugh. I'm only mentioning this because we were concerned that this place would be loaded with major attitude (like any place in Meatpacking), but this was totally not the case. The staff at Lavo is awesome."
