Oleana is a neighborhood restaurant with a strong focus on flavors and comfort. The cuisine centers on the Arabic influenced foods of the Mediterranean with a strong lean towards Turkish fare. Winter months feature a roaring fireplace and in the warm weather the gorgeous garden is open for dinner.

"We came in with a group of 6 and a reservation. We ordered a number of difference mezzes, all of which were delicious. The highlights were the asparagus fatteh, bread and cheese dumplings, and spinach falafel.
Service was a bit slow, but very friendly. Even though the restaurant began to get very full, the meal never felt rushed. This is definitely a place for sitting and enjoying a long (2 hour) meal."

"Oleana is excellent every time I have gone.
The flavors of the food are amazing. There is nothing that I didn't like. We had the Meze plates. Highly recommend the bread and cheese dumplings, the Sultan's Delight, the grilled octopus and the spinach falafel. We also ordered an appetizer special, Grilled Shrimp in a vegetable/tomato stew. Fabulous.
The flavors are wonderful and all work.

"Went there for a birthday dinner for me and my girlfriend. We had a wonderful time. It is a very cramped space. The food was amazing. We had the grilled octopus appetizer. The beer list is a very eclectic grouping of microbrews from across the country. They use all organic fresh vegetables from local growers. I had one of the specials , a grilled kabob with cherries on a bed of jasmine rice and a yogurt sauce. My girlfriend had a delicious pork roll. We had an amazing night. The restaurant is little in space but they make up for it in great big flavor ."

"The chef needs to be applauded! The mixture of flavors and ingredients is amazing - truly amazing. I would have never thought to mix certain ingredients but they do it with style, mouth watering flavor explosions and amazing presentation. Can't wait to go back."

"First time at this well known and popular dining spot. Did not disappoint in food department service a bit perfunctory but efficient and well informed. Was packed by about 6:30 pm and only time we cld get for two was 5:45 pm. But early for sat nite but fit our schedule fine. Wld like to return in summer to dine bob their lovely back patio."

"Had res. for 9, arrived at 8:30 and was greeted cheerily and seated promptly! We were ordering 6-7 Meze and then share dinner but were smoothly told that would be an "enormous amount of food!" (First timers!) Waiter helped hone down to 4... the Snap Pea and Bulgur special Meze was absolutely outstanding. Spinach falafel had uniquely smooth interior and crunchy exterior. Warm buttered hummus yummy as was Octopus carpaccio. Meze were brought out in pairs so we could savor each plate at it's correct temp. Shared the nights special softshell crab dinner. Perfectly crisp crab matched with nicely grilled asparagus. We have healthy appetites and were delighted with our choices. Just enough room for Baked Alaska dessert which is a MUST try!!"

"We shared three mezze between the two of us and we both ordered the lamb entree (roast loin -- very tasty). Afterwards, we both agreed that we had ordered one mezze too many. All the selections were tasty and interesting. One observation: We felt that the sauces accompanying the mezze we chose (the asparagus, borek and falafel) somewhat overpowered the dishes. The mint in some of the sauces was a bit strong for my spouse's taste. The wine list had a good variety in terms of selection and price range.

"The appetizer list goes on and on .. One better than the next!! The combo of ingredients is complex but tastes amazing.. The spinach falafel is a must have as is carrot purée . Halibut main entree was delicious - loved the peas in there. Fried mussels had too much sauce on them to enjoy fully. Asparagus app worth a try too. Wine list works well with meals. Only issue- Sunday night at 6:30 and big long wait between appetizers and entrees... When I inquired I got a vague answer and no acknowledgement, answer or apology.. Same response to table next to us. If there was a kitchen snafu, just say so.. Won't stop me from trying again but just put a damper on the overall experience .."

"Tried the vegetable tasting menu and the lamb shish-ke-bab. The mezza were very creative, but seemed too complicated. The vegetables often weren't allowed to speak for the themselves - lost in a confusion of other ingredients and flavors. The lamb dish, was, in contrast, beautifully executed, and merits a return visit. The ambiance is pleasant, low key, with "60's reminiscent eastern decor". Our table was a bit on the small side - but not uncomfortably so. Our server was attentive, and obviously enthusiastic about the cuisine - wonderful to see this kind of passion. (Although she did manage to give us a bill for the wrong table - quickly and apologetically corrected. Oleana is a bargain - very reasonable considering the high food quality."

"I selected Oleana for a special occasion, and as a first time visitor - it really lived up to its reputation! We were a party of 4, and we ordered 4 small plates and 2 entrees to share. We were satisfied and full, but still wanted dessert...so we ordered that too. ; ) We split the Baked Alaska...a bit too sweet for me, but the others really enjoyed it.
The food standouts of the night were the spinach falafels, Sultan's Delight, the lemon chicken entree, and they had a special lamb entree that night that was basically a long pressed lamb meatball - Very delicious! Service was outstanding, and very attentive to questions, clearing dishes, and bringing fresh silverware as needed.
I would definitely go back again!"

"The food was generally excellent but quite overpriced for what it was (and especially for Boston). The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, but the service was less than perfect. We had a variety of waiters who came to our table to take our order or deliver one thing or another. None of them seemed totally sure about what was going on or concerned about our experience. The food also came exceptionally slowly."

"It had great reviews so I took a friend to dinner, but the service was slow and kind of rude and unfriendly. Im sure its not a reflection of the entire waitstaff but it slightly soured our night. We asked for bottled water but we got charged for some expensive filtered tap water- which we didn't even order? And then we asked for the pitcher of water to be removed from the table since they are quite small so we could have more space to eat and the waiter refused ? And made us feel like we were wrong for even asking and put us down. It was a mess. Its a small restaurant so be ready to sit coozy with your neighbor. The decor is nice and there is a relaxing ambiance. Atleast the food was good but I would not come back."

"I loved everything about this restaurant except how close you were to your neighbors, but it was a small sacrifice for how unbelievably delicious the food was and how wonderful the services was.
It was my boyfriend's birthday and he is Turkish, so I wanted to give him a little taste of home. He was surprised and how many real Turkish food was on the menu and pleased with the way they fused all of the Mediterranean cuisines together. Really an unforgettable experience!"

"I had very high expectations based on the several outstanding reviews I have seen. The couch or cushion they seat us on to wait for our table is the most uncomfortable couch ever! We went here for our anniversary. The couple on either side of us were celebrating their anniversary too. But, given that so many people go here for their anniversaries, the seats were too close to each other. The food was alright. I have had better. All in all, I have to say I was slightly disappointed."

"It took us two months of waiting for winter to pass (this band of three from RI were thwarted by snow twice) and another two month to get in on a Saturday night but it was so worth the wait. My Turkish friend guided the three of us through the wonderful offerings and we could not have been more satisfied with the service, cuisine, and wine choice. The grilled octopus was unexpectedly tasty as was the duck which to my taste was done perfectly. The smoked eggplant humus and the falafel were the highlights - they were rich without being heavy. Oh wait! There was that rhubarb dessert that almost made me tear up. The Turkish coffee was also a wonderful and tasty surprise. It was a wonderful dining experience."

"It's hard to exaggerate how wonderful the food at Ana Sortun's respected eatery in Cambridge is. From the fried mussels to the striped bass to the turkish profiteroles, the richness and flavor of the food is astounding. Worth a long trip out of your way to eat here."

"I was disappointed in Oleanna. I'd heard great things about the food, but found it heavy and unexciting. It was hard to find the mussels in the fried mussels, for example -- too much batter and oil. Other dishes were fine but nothing was memorable, even the baked Alaska, which should have been a great treat, was just okay.
The place is very pleasant and not too noisy, given tightly packed tables. Service was disappointing -- it was hard to get our waiter's attention. We tried several times, because the food did not come out as we'd asked for it, but failed. As a result, the meal had a disorganized feel, with part of dinner coming before the appetizer."

"I'm sorry to report that we had a disappointing meal at Oleana. We had not been in several years, and were very much looking forward to something akin to our prior excellent experiences. Unfortunately, our meal was plagued with unprofessional service, which greatly diminished our enjoyment of our meal. Our waiter didn't seem to speak English very well, and solemnly read off the specials from his notepad, but made no other comments or suggestions about the menu at all, despite the somewhat complicated format. Each course was plonked down on the table by a server with no description of what we was on the plate, and no idea who had ordered what. I expected much more from a place at this price point."

"We had a 3 year old with us so we had a table in the back of the restaurant facing the patio in the back(which was closed as it was still cold in Boston.
At first I though perhaps it was not the most appropriate place for a 3 year old (who occasionally would be a little loud)...Most of the patrons didn't seem to mind or if they did they didn't show it...The staff was friendly.

The food was excellent...The vegetarian tasting menu with 5 courses was the favorite....And the lamb was a close follow...Miscellaneous appetizers were all good...In general, the flavor blending in the various dishes were superb! Highly recommended for a special occasion (we were celebrating a birthday)!"

"This is always at the top of if not number one on our list of eats in Boston. The food combinations and use of spices, vegetables makes every bite an experience to savor for a long time. The memory always lasts and we want to rush back. One needs to plan in advance because it is so popular. We have been coming here for years and have never had any meal that is ever short of 5 stars.

"I was running late and anxious as to whether I would be seated. I knew that it is hard to get reservations and didn't want to jeopardize being seated. I was greeted with a smile and told that everything was fine. I enjoyed the food so much that I never really paid much attention to my surroundings except for my immediate area. Comfortable. Our wait staff was quite helpful, and friendly. The food was quite delicious. I had never tasted much of what I had to eat. Definitely would recommend to my friends - and anyone else who would listen.

"Everything about this restaurant is terrific. The flavors are intense, wonderful and very unique. The ability to experience so many different flavors by having a variety of meze is particularly nice. Desserts are also excellent and quite unusual. Plus they have a super beer selection.
Our server was just great--full of knowledge, warmth, and humor."

"The food at Oleana is amazing! I had a friend who had been recommending it and we finally got a chane to go! Out waitress suggested that we order some mezzes and split them. It was perfect. I felt satisfied but not uncomfortable and we still had food left to take home. The food itself was incredible. Great flavors and textures in att the dishes. There was also live middle eastern music to set the vibe. After going I'm not suprised that we couldn't get a reservation before 8. Definitely a good spot. Just make sure you make a reservationa number of days in advance."

"This is my favorite restaurant in greater Boston. The grilled seafood with chorizo was especially delicious - the octopus was perfectly prepared - smooth and unctious, not chewy. The only "ding" is that the pacing felt rushed. Otherwise, Oleana continues to exceed expectations."
