Catch 35 - Chicago
Catch 35 Seafood and Premium Steaks is just a short walk from Chicago’s exciting Theatre district. The restaurant the Chicago Sun-Times calls “one of the classiest and most innovative seafood restaurants around” is perfect for a pre- or post-show dinner. "The restaurant was so cold, I couldn't eat my meal. I was shivering to the point of shaking, and left most of my salad. I was so incredibly uncomfortable. We asked that they look into it, but apparently it was not under the restaurant's control. Thus, I will not go back. The food, I would have like to enjoy - the salad looked really good, I left most of it."

"We used to live in Milwaukee area and now reside in The Villages, Florida. We had been to your restaurant 3 times while living in Milwaukee. On this trip to Milwaukee we decided to come to Chicago and have dinner at our favorite restaurant - Catch 35. We sure were not disappointed. Our server Paul was outstanding. What we love about your place is that there is no rushing. We thoroughly enjoyed a very relaxed dinner and of course the food was excellent. We will be married 45 years this year and what a way to start our 45th year of marriage than at your restaurant. Our son does business in Chicago and we have recommended your restaurant to him to take clients. Thanks again for a wonderful meal and you will see us there again!!!!!"

"I've been to Catch 35 on numerous occasions, and this visit was no exception: it just plain tastes great. A friend and I both ordered the scallops; they were succulent, tender and scrumptious. The service was timely but not pushy. The waiter we had on this visit had a sense of humor and a great smile. We didn't hang around, but they also have a very cool jazz trio in the lounge area that would be a lot of fun to sit and listen to before, during or after dining. I eat out a lot, and Catch 35 is definitely my go-to restaurant when I want to celebrate something special and be sure to get great food and service."

"We had a six o'clock reservation. Our server very nicely asked us if we had a showtime to make. We explained that we did not as we had already been to a matinee and that we were in no rush. Our food came much too quickly however - so we did feel a bit rushed."

"Had always been outstanding in the past. Not this time. Swordfish was overcooked. All the waiter did was say "I'll let them know ". Not sure how that helps me personally.... Also good thing our key lime pie was free (it was our 10 yr. anniversary being celebrated). It was substandard--almost as if they were trying to save money by using cheaper ingredients. Not sure I will return"

"The waiter noticed my husband and I were well dressed and asked if we had an event-we replied yes, a 7:30 pm curtain at the Cadillac Theater. The waiter said - we will have you out of here by 7 pm, which we did. The 1/2 dozen oysters were great, my husband and I shared a swordfish and shrimp dish, excellent creamed spinach and great sourdough bread.

"We were 45 minutes late for our reservation. I had made a 5:30 reservation because we had tickets at the Oriental which is nearby. We really liked that the valet parking would keep our car for both the dinner and the theater for the bargain of $10. Our waitress knew we had theater tickets so she gave us the best service we have had in a long time, recommending the dinner items that would be prepared for us to enjoy in the hour of time that we had. She was incredible. We will go back. By the way, our dinners (Sea Bass and the Halibut) were incredible as well."

"The appetizer and dessert courses were the best part of the meal. The entree was very good, but didn't hold a candle to the others. "Enjoyed our dinner at Catch 35 immensely. We were seated right away and bread/water on our table within minutes. Our waitress appeared moments later. They are used to people coming in with theatre reservations so atmosphere is a bit rushed, but for a good reason.l We had 6:00 reservations at the Goodman and finished in plenty of time. I had the bisque and my companion had the caesar salad. We both had the whitefish, which was delicious. For dessert we tried the carrot cake bread pudding and the key lime pie. Yummy. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be returning on future trips to Chicago."

"Food was very good, but didn't receive everything we ordered. The excuse was the kitchen was busy. Poor excuse, for an always busy restaurant. The waitress should have paid better attention. She apologized, and said something would be taken off the bill. It didn't happen. That was disappointing. I didn't ask for anything to be taken off, but if she offered, again she wasn't paying attention. We have dined there many times before, and have had no issues. We would go back again, but if it happens again, it will be the last time."

"I've been to Catch 35 many times over the years, and it has always been consistently good. A wide selection of quality seafood appetizers are offered, and the selections of wines by the glass is better than most restaurants. I passed up my favorite, their signature dish of Chilean sea bass, and chose lump crab cakes as my entree. They were excellent, and were served with a nice bernaise sauce. We chose the restaurant's featured wine, a Vouvray, a good pairing for our entrees (my friend chose the sea bass). We shared a Caesar salad at the start, which was very fresh, and ended our meal by sharing the blood orange cheesecake, also delicious, and cappuccino. On the way out, the piano bar was crowded because the entertainment had started."

"Good selection - interesting preparations of fish, but not limited to fish. Quite reasonably priced, especially given the location. Our waiter was very informed and attentive. He said that he had been there for 23 years. My Lake Superior Whitefish may have been the best I have ever had, and the mashed potatoes and spinach were perfect with it. Although the bar area was noisy, there are many quiet tables. We'll be back."

"Decor and ambiance were upscale, but comfortable. Live music in the background a bonus. My husband said the yellow fin tuna appetizer was excellent. The problem came with waiting about an hour for our main courses even when our waiter was told when we placed the order that we had theater tickets. Either the order was not put in or there was a problem in the kitchen, but by the time our entrees came we only had 15 minutes to eat and run. Our food was very good - we had the whitefish, scallops and halibut. The restaurant did make our appetizer complimentary and would also have given us a free dessert, but we didn't have time to eat a dessert."

"Had the tuna sashimi, thinly sliced and nicely covered in sesame seeds. I asked for plain rice not fried and it came cooked to perfection. The grilled vegetables were amazing too. So I left feeling I had eaten very healthily - nice and light for lunch when the temperature was 84 outside. My colleague had the fish tacos and said they were delicious too."

"Great service and attention to time constraints. We were on our way to a play the server insured we completed our dinner in time to get to the theater in time, all without rushing us! Their 3-course meals are delicious and reasonably priced. If you valet park, they deduct the $10 valet charge from your bill and you can pick up your car after the theater. This is the best deal downtown for anyone looking to enjoy dinner and a show."

"We felt rushed through dinner starting with the host. Although we were 10 minutes early, he wouldn't lets us get a drink at the bar before we sat, saying they were completely booked and needed to turn the tables (gasp!). Our salads came almost instantaneously. Our entrees clearly stayed under the heat lamp as we leisurely ate our salads.Good place if our in a hurry."

"A lovely dining experience. I have been to this Catch 35 twice and both times the food and service were outstanding. I know you are supposed to go for the seafood but they also have one of the best filets I have ever had. My waiter was very attentive, there was a jazz trio playing and the food was perfect."

"The food was excellent. Go for the 3 course dinner special. The restaurant was also very friendly to theater-goers. Our waiter asked if we were going to see a show after dinner (we were) and what time we needed to be out the door. He did a great job keeping to our timeline!"

"WE HAD THE UNEXPECTED PLEASURE OF DINING AT CATCH 35 AFTER GOING TO BIG FISH THE MUSICAL (AWESOME) THIS WEEK! WE DECIDED TO TRY SOMEWHERE WE HADN'T BEEN BEFORE! FIRST WE HAD DRINKS IN THE WAY COOL BAR AREA! OUR SERVER WAS JUST A HONEY AND SHE WAS SO VERY HELPFUL! WISH WE HAD MORE TIME BECAUSE GREAT LIVE MUSIC STARTED AS WE GOT SEATED FOR DINNER! WE WERE HARDLY SITTING AND OUR SERVER WAS RIGHT THERE TO GET US DRINKS ALONG WITH FABULOUS BREAD! SHE ALSO WAS SO VERY HELPFUL AS TO WHAT TO ORDER!EVERYTHING WAS FANTASTIC! "We have been here before and always enjoyed it. But had to admit we were disappointed this visit. Food was just OK and could have been a bit warmer ... but service was really not up to par. We had to keep calling over a waitress who was not our server to get our bill, etc. And the bill was not correct when we did get it."

"Good was good, what you would expect at a nice restaurant. The waiter however, was horrible. He was rude and condescending, actually rolled his eyes at my husband over our appetizer choice which was not one of his recommendations, never asked if we wanted additional drinks, and provided some of the slowest service I have ever had. While the restaurant was nice, I don't think that I would ever go back because the waitstaff was so poor."

"Made reservations but they still tried to stick us near the kitchen doors. Had to wait 30 minutes for another table to become available. That was the worst part of the evening but overall it was a wonderful dining experience. The food was exceptional. The seafood was so fresh. The service was attentive but not overbearing. WIll come back again--and soon!"
