Located in the heart of New York City's West Village, A.O.C. has become a part of the historic and beautiful neighborhood.
Our extensive menu is a collaboration of handed down family recipes from the chef/owner, Romain Bonnans, and classic French fare.
Savor everything from Omelets to Feuille de Brique for brunch. For dinner you might try our Moules Marinieres (a favorite among our customers), a classic Salad Nicoise or a Lobster Risotto, all while enjoying the casual atmosphere. "We thought the restaurant was 'okay'. Nothing seriously wrong, nothing great. It was very busy and it seems popular perhaps as a neighborhood haunt. It was however extremely hot and they clearly could have had the AC on, but didn't or didn't leave it on."

"Appetizers delicious - calamari and chacuterie, duck entree divine, pork loin too dry, mussels with wine sauce not too good, house white wine was fantastic, and dessert - chocolate lava cake with ice cream was very good. When we complained about the pork loin being too dry, they said we could order something else. We ordered the mussels, but they weren't satisfactory, although we didn't complain further."

"Tres Bien!
As a restaurant critic, I couldn't have been more pleased. We dined with our French friends who felt the same.
We arrived at 6:45pm, hoping to get a table in the garden, which we did. The service was excellent and food was absolutely delicious. And, for a French restaurant, I was surprised at the generous portions.
I live in the West Village. I will soon become a regular.
I highly recommend this restaurant.

"I must have eaten at this restaurant more then fifteen years ago. It wass very nice to be reaquainted with such. The lunch was very nice. There were three in our party and we all were very pleased with what we had ordered. I had gotten the "Tuna Burger" which was just a few pieces of fresh grilled tuna on a wonderful roll. It was delicious. My only complaint was that the portion of the fish was relatively meager. The three tiny broken up pieces would have been even more wonderful if it was a more generous single piece of fish."

"This might be a solid choice in a quiet period, such as a weekday afternoon or a rainy Tuesday evening. But when we ate there on a weekend evening, it was the noisiest restaurant we had visited in at least five years. The restaurant tries to jam as many customers as possible in a room -- we were in the back -- with a low ceiling and no soft surface. We requested a quieter table. As a result, we found it impossible to enjoy a civilized meal. The front room seemed no better.
This is unfortunate because the food is not bad at all. Standard French fare decently prepared. Service was friendly though not particularly attentive or polished. The prices seemed fair, which may help account for the crowd. And of course some people enjoy noise."

"Long time fan of A.O.C. Last visit was a good as the first many years ago. A busy Friday night didn't seem like the best night to train a new waitress, but she shadowed an old pro who knew exactly how to play it off with style. It's one of the few French spots which actually understand hospitality and service. A bit pricey but never a disappointment."

1. My duck confit was stringy and dry. I have this dish almost every time I eat there, and this was the first time the confit was not sublime.
2. We asked for a second bottle of wine halfway through the meal(as we had almost finished the first bottle with our starter).
Our entrees arrived and we were down to our last sips of wine, yet no second bottle.
As we finished our entrees, we requested that the bottle order be cancelled.
It was a pity on both ends, as we would have enjoyed the wine and they would have made an additional $51, plus tax and tip on that bottle."

"My girlfriend and I are glad we discovered a small restaurant that serves excellent food! We started out with the foie gra as the appetizer. The apple jam that came on the side just added an excellent touch to the dish. The foie gra was very creamy, and the toast was an excellent combo as well!
I had ordered the duck confit which was very flavorful and it was cooked just right. My girlfriend and the lamb shank. It was pretty good. However, we are not used to lamb being prepared this particular way, so we are not too fond of it either. Overall, the food quality here is excellent！I will definitely recommend people to try to this place!!"

"How one poor server with attitude can mar an experience: One woman (among several servers)was outwardly bored and passive aggressive with everything she did and let it be known to all. She was, unfortunately, training a new energetic guy so here's hoping her toxicity isn't contagious. There was a sense of rush throughout the evening even though the restaurant was never full. The rush was so apparent that we inquired as to closing time and were told it was midnight--we departed at 11. The food is wonderfully French and mostly delicious."

"I ordered a dish that was supposed to have grapefruit with it and it never came. I asked many times, the waiter assured it was coming ASAP and it never came. I assumed that since part of my meal had never actually arrived, that my check would reflect the poor service. Not only did the check not reflect my sub-par experience but I practically had to battle with the staff to get some kind of compensation more on principle than for the money. She kept offering me a glass of champaign and saying she couldn't take part of my meal off the bill. I politely told her that I don't want champaign and that I think on principle she should have addressed the error on my bill. I had been quite pleasant until then and finally sorted it out with the manager"

"Booked this place for a special birthday celebration. Noted that it was special in my reservation. Despite having noted this, we were seated in their less-attractive "back room," which sports a TV screen and not very much heat. The waiter took 20 minutes to get our drink orders, and they were out of the foie gras, which the birthday celebrant had really been looking forward to. The food was really nothing to write home about, and though I've eaten here before, I didn't think it felt special at all anymore. I won't keep this place in mind for future special occasions, unfortunately. It used to have a refined, European feel but this time we felt like we were sitting in an overpriced cattle car. Dinner was a fortune, to boot."

"I have been to AOC several times and the food is always great. Service was excellent and we were a large party(7). The staff was very helpful and attentive and everyone enjoyed themselves and their food. I would definitely recommend."

"Our experience at AOC was horrible. It was our first time visiting the restaurant (though I have been to some of the sister restaurant). My party was 7 people large and our table was not ready upon arrival - we ended up waiting 15 minutes. Half of our party was seated in the front window of the restaurant, using the wooden heater cover as a bench. We asked REPEATEDLY for the heat to be turned down, and members from our party took turns walking outdoors into the 30 degree weather to cool down.
Once we were seated, the waiter said there were only 2 available menus, which we had to share. The bread we requested for our foie gras appetizer didn't appear til the middle of our entree. And it took 35 minutes to proces the check."

"My favorite restaurant in NYC! Took two co-workers for dinner and they loved it. The lobster risotto was amazing, as was the lamb shank. Every time I'm in NYC I stop here, and I've been doing this for over 10 years! This restaurant reminds me of eating in Paris. Small and cozy with simple French cooking. It's not a 3 green bean on the plate French cooking. Its a huge bowl of Moules et Frites. Or a lamb shank that takes up 2/3 of the plate. You don't leave hungry as you want to eat every bite on your plate!"

"I loved AOC and the experience of dining there, but the food left something to be desired. The shrimp appetizer was delicious and I loved every bite, but the coq au vin was much too rich and mono-flavored. My date had the tuna steak which he enjoyed, though the tuna was a bit dry. The apple tartin dessert was a letdown, as well. While the food was all presented beautifully and the service was as kind as can be, I don't think I'd return here."

"The place was very cozy and relaxed and the service was friendly. We went on a Sunday night and the place was bustling. The standout of the evening were the Mussels and the fries that went with them. They were outstanding! Everything else though was just okay (onion soup a little bland)."
