A Traditional Steak and Chophouse restaurant had long been absent in Norfolk. With its opening in 2006, the Byrd & Baldwin Bros Steakhouse filled that void. Housed in the Circa 1906 building of the same name, the Byrd & Baldwin Bros Steakhouse was conceived and executed with a no-compromise philosophy, rewarding guests with a memorable dining experience.
"We were seated promptly. It was Mother's Day and I felt there should have been flowers on the tables instead of bare. There were also no specials on the menu. They could have offered mom a complimentary desert or at least a rose! This is how good management stands out! Service was polite but slow as they seemed a bit overwhelmed or understaffed. My filet was good but my husband's strip was under-cooked a bit and not as he expected. The sides (not included) were generous and the mashed potatoes were great and broccoli cooked as we requested. Although a bit pricey, It was a nice experience. I just feel they could have added a special touch to this special occasion! I may try it again at another time as perhaps they were a little busy."

"Our dinner for 5 was, as always, delightful with the food being exceptional and the quiet dinning room allowed us to conduct a casual business dinner. Service was spot on with just enough attention to assure we had all we needed. Always a safe bet to recommend Byrd and Baldwin and even better to go there yourself."

"This was our first visit and based on the experience my wife and I are customers for life. Everything was cooked perfectly to order and we could not have been happier with the service and staff throughout the whole visit."

"The only negative comment: The waiter was competent and mostly attentive. But he exuded an attitude of...nothing. No friendliness, no energy, no...nothing. It was almost as if he disdained the need to serve us. Maybe we were too easy to get along with and didn't project as someone he needed to care about. Still, dinner conversation relating to how the waiter has his noise in the air isn't some for the restaurant to rave about. Would we come back? Maybe, knowing that other waiters we saw that were all the things ours wasn't."

"I found this place while in town for a few days, A place to take the wife for a night out. What a total success. After arriving to find out my reservation did not come thru, the hostess was quick to find us a table. Once sat, we where in for a meal to savor! The service was outstanding, the food was out of this world. Well worth the price!"

"Waiter/ Tony was absolutely the Best of the Best! His recommedations were spot on and made this dining experience Very Special. Thank you Tony!!! We arrived early and the Hostess graciously greated and seated us. Tony made us feel at home and make several recommendations as to what to order. We ordered Oyster Rockerfella and a Chef Special Oyster offerring - Both were Mouth watering and simply Perfecto; Then the Spinach Salad - Over the top and palet pleasing; Main Meal - Crab & Mac, Steamed Brocolli & Porterhouse Steak:Crab & Mac - vert tasty, Brocolli prepared perfectly, and The Porterhouse steak. It was the downside of the experience - flavorless and tough. What was expected to be a House Specialty was very disappointing."

"Byrd and Baldwin presented fair portions and well prepared food for an over-inflated price. The service was deplorable and unless you are one of the local notables, you might as well go to Ruth's Chris or Schlesinger's in Newport News where the service matches the price one pays for a steak. Our waiter had little sense of humour, was at times rude and only warmed up towards the end after presenting a "aren't you lucky to be eating here attitude." By the way, he is preparing for his Level 3 Sommelier distinction, which is impressive in its own right, but he failed to offer suggestions for pairings with the meal. The girl working the bar provided slow and obligatory service."

"We could not have been more pleased with our experience with Bryd and Baldwin Bros. The food tasted spectacular and was well presented. The asmosphere was quiet and the decorum was tastful and classy. The prices are on par with a place like Ruth's Chris but in my opinion the service and the food was more satisfying. I have already reccomended Byrd and Baldwin Bros. to many of my friends and coworkers."

"My girlfriend and I were in town for two days and had dinner at B&B on a Tuesday evening. It was an excellent experience - great food and outstanding service. We had the filet and ribeye; both perfectly cooked. The crab mac & cheese is a must."

"I must say I expected a lot more in the way of taste based on the cost. Somewhat overpriced for what you get. Also, the decor is pretty dated and an update could do wonders for the ambiance.Server was pretty dull and not very present"

"This was our second visit to Byrd and Baldwin Bros. We went for an early valentine's dinner. Overall our experience was just "ok". The steaks were excellent - both cooked perfectly - but the mashed potatoes were gummy and tasted like they had been sitting under a heating lamp for a while. Spinach salad was way overdressed and soggy. Service was fair given that it was not that crowded. For the price of the food I expect alot better."

"Had a bad experience with ordering. What was written on the menu was not what came out to eat and when questioning it the waiter acted like I had read it all wrong."

"For the price, food was fantastic! Filet and rib-eye ran about $40 each respectively. Sides are large, suggest ordering 1 to split between 2 people. Appetizers are fantastic as well.
One weird quirk, waiter and bus boy never introduced themselves. Manager came to check on us, never introduced himself or offered any assistance either, just asked how dinner was and left. They were all very pleasant, albeit brief.
Wine list is huge, they also have a decent scotch list as well."

"The porterhouse steak was spectacular, but the lobster was very average. Service was exceptional. I would stay with the steaks and stay away from the seafood. The wine selection was outstanding."

"Great experience! I had my rehearsal dinner here, and I came back for a regular dinner. The food is immaculate and the steaks are the best I've ever had. This place is managed by true professionals, and I'll sorely miss this restaurant when I move."
