"The good, the food is really good. We started with the butcher board, but no one bothered to tell us what any of the meats were on the board. I had the pork shank, my wife had the fried chicken and both were great. We had Brussels sprouts and mac and cheese as the sides and Twelve layer red cake for dessert.
The bad, the whole experiences took about 2 and 1/2 hours because of the inattentive waitstaff. While everyone was unfailingly polite, it was impossible to get someone to your table to fil your water glass or even ask you how you were enjoying your food. Everyone seemed knowledgable, but you had to pry it out of them.
Don't go here if you're in a rush."

"We've passed this place numerous times and always wondered what it was like. I'm typically not one to give much credit to restaurants inside of hotels but we finally gave it a go. What an incredible surprise. Started by Oprah Winfrey's former chef....this place is outstanding for contemporary southern fare. And they have a ham bar. Enough said. Amazing craft cocktails, super kind wait staff and just a cool vibe overall. We just went back this past Friday with a crew of 6 friends and had a ditto experience. Highyl recommended!"

"The food was okay; it could be better.
My concern is the service; the waiter or actually waitresses were not too helpful, perhaps because it was buffet and Mother's day; probably more because the reservation was at 1:00 pm and the energy was down.
I will prefer a waiter that smiles, takes care and have interest in the costumer; they do their job and not more.
We were seated and after 5 minutes of waiting for some one to show up at our table; I had to stand up and look for help; that is not acceptable; well, at least for me is not.
No one told us where and how the food was organized until I asked.
Sorry but I might not go back.
Wish you well like with the other restaurants you own."

"Overall we enjoyed our time at Southern Art and Bourbon Bar. Took my adult daughters for a Mother's Day Brunch hoping to beat the Sunday crowd. The food was great. Our server was good but a little slow. A wedding party arrived during our visit and our service all but came to a standstill. I do not recommend the Catfish Reuben, but the fried chicken and tilapia were both wonderful."

"The food was good, we felt it was mostly very bland and overpriced for what it was. We had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and it was tasteless. I had the pork shank and my wife had the flounder. The pork shank was presented as a big slab of meat on a plate all by itself, boring presentation. The meat was dry and the skin was hard. The waiter said the skin would be crisp, that would have been nice, it was so hard and dry that I could not eat it. The flounder was good, but again, no real flavors to speak of. I was expecting so much more from Art Smith. He is so full of life and love, but that does not reflect in his restaurant."

"I've been here twice now and have had an outstanding experience both times. The atmosphere is lively, but not as noisy as the bar area. The ham bar rival European style hams, and the fried chicken and bourbon pecan pie are exceptional. The service is also very good, as the servers were attentive and gave excellent recommendations."

"The food at Southern Art is amazing! I started with a hydroponic beet salad and had shrimp and grits as my entree. Both were delicious. My boyfriend ordered the chopped salad (pretty standard) and the pork shank. It was a huge serving of meat, and was perfectly cooked. The pork was tender and juicy...just right!! They also bring rosemary cheddar biscuits and pickled veggies at the beginning of the meal...delish!! We were impressed with the wine and draft beer list, as there were unique and delicious options on both. We didn't save room for dessert, but the pecan pie looked amazing. Our head server was awful, but at least the 2nd wait staff(water filler etc) did a great job. We will go back."

"Loved it! This was our 2nd visit. I would have given 5 stars for overall, but they were out of the Duck breast & I only found out after I had ordered it & had my heart set on it! I had the Shrimp & grits. They were very good. My husband had the fried chicken. He loved it. The food portions are quite large so unless you ar starving, dont get app, salad & entree! I had the cheese appetizer & my husband had fried green tomatoes. I had the appetizer Shimp & grits instead of the entree portion size. "This was our second visit to Southern Art. We brought friends who are new to the area. Our server was very pleasant, although not able to answer questions about some dishes on the menu. We ordered the shrimp and grits and the pork shank. Both were delicious as were the banana pudding pie and the red velvet cake.

"They had me at complimentary biscuits and pickled veggies. Not to mention, the place is beautiful!!! Vibrant art hanging, not on the walls, but on the ceiling!! Giant colorful chandeliers and oversized comfy leather chairs... upscale yet homey at the same time. And the food, oh the food... Do yourself a favor and order the pork shank. Like brisket that falls off the bone! To top it all off... 12 layer red velvet cheesecake! I died. :) The only thing to keep in mind... it's a hotel restaurant, so interesting crowd and atmosphere. There was the exhausted traveling family with small children, business meeting, date night... all in one place. Oh, and if you're into the celeb chef thing, it's Oprah's ex chef, Art Smith's restaurant! Enjoy!!"

"Delicious food, and excellent service from not just our waiter but from every individual, every busboy, anyone who came by. Everything we had was over the top, from the chef's special appetizer (crab dip) to cocktails to entrees (all ordered different, all good) to the desserts. Save room and don't fill up on the biscuits (which are divine), it's an experience. And please . . .don't shy away due to it being in a hotel . . . it is AMAZING. We waited way too long to try this place!"

"This was my third time to Southern Art and Bourbon Bar, and I was again impressed with the delicious take on southern classics. Starting out, the Ham Bar provides a dozen varieties of the best hams. Great to start off with a ham selection and a glass of wine or a cocktail. The main courses are generally southern classics. The menu is not large, but has one of each food group (meat, fish, chicken, pork, etc). The southern classics are well represented. The portions are very large. The fried chicken is great. The shrimp and grits is the best in the city. The pork shank is a huge cave-man like portion, and delicious. The space is nice - a high ceiling detracts from the coziness, and the space feels slightly "cold". Service is good, not great."

"The restaurant is very well appointed, the food was creative and authentic. Our server was polite and prompt. We enjoyed a selection of hams from the ham bar, and cheeses. My wife enjoyed the fried chicken. I had the duck, which was excellent. One of my guests ordered a filet which came out over cooked, the promptly corrected that. Our sides came out after the meals were served, and I had to ask for mine. I'm not sure if the server forgot to order it or the kitchen missed preparing it. They had a great bourbon menu, unfortunately they were out of four of the bourbons we ordered.
It would have been nice to either have been greeted by a manager, or at least been acknowledged about the oversights. They really should update the bourbon menu"

"Staff was great, service was stellar! I had left a note on the reservation that this date was for my husband, a mental break from school. Our waiter surprised us with complementary champagne once we had settled at our table! I had NO idea that would even happen. The food, every bit of it, was phenomenal. My husband will be bringing work clients to Southern Art for sure & we'll be back! There's something great about finding a new restaurant and Southern Art was hands down, the greatest find in Atlanta."

"At a business lunch for four, we all enjoyed our first dining experience at Southern Art. The biscuits and pulled pork sandwich were great! My colleagues all enjoyed their food, too. Our server was attentive, but, regretably, denied a substitution request, which seemed strange, especially since I would have been willing to pay extra. On the whole, I would definitely return again."

"The hostess and waiter called us by name which is not easy to pronounce. They were extremely courteous and friendly. The Southern Art is very well appointed with lighting, art, woodwork, and furnishings. AND the food was simply outstanding. We sent our daughter and granddaughter there the next day. Don't miss Southern Art (Art Smith's has done a great job) if you are in the Buckhead area of Atlanta. It is an awesome winner!!"

"We were there for their Easter Brunch and we enjoyed it very much. Price was reasonable. The selection, although not as abundant like the Ritz's more pricey brunch, was still outstanding. Every thing we ate was delicious. The she crab soup, mac and cheese, and ham selections were particularly exceptional for items that ordinarily can seem quite ordinary. The cold seafood items -- shrimp and crab claws -- were fresh and tasty. And the desserts -- we made room for desserts -- were incredible, particularly the bourbon pecan pie! Overall, a terrific experience -- great food, great service. We plan to return."

"I was excited to eat here and the food lived up to its reputation, however, the service was not good - excessively slow and unapologetic. I won't rush back here, which is unfortunate. It took 45 minutes from the time we sat at the bar to the time we finally received a drink. By the time we moved to our table we were no longer in the great mood that we had come in with. Anyway, it's worth a visit. The decor is grand and I will bring my mother here for dessert and champagne. Just make sure you have plenty of time for an excessively leisurely meal."

"I am truly a Southern gal and Southern Art and Bourbon Bar brought me back to my true roots. The food and service is exceptional. After staring up at the ceiling in awe of the chandeliers and art work, I was finally able to look at the menu and make a decision for the evening. First, let me say that the biscuits and marinated vegetables that are served once seated, will make you full. Go lightly, but it's hard. Next, try the pork shank with bourbon jus and served with braised collard greens. You will be in heaven!! This was truly one of of the best I've ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience here and will be back very, very soon to try the buttermilk fried chicken."

"Excellent experience from start to finish. Although the appetizers were unreasonably small, the main entrees more than made up for it. And everything was delicious. The ambiance is romantic in a quirky way - the prints hanging on the ceiling were interesting though a bit tacky. The service was a bit slow, especially considering the restaurant was not busy and there were more than enough servers walking around, but our waiter was pleasant and helpful."

"My husband and I ate both dinner and Sunday brunch here while staying at the hotel. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine selection. The bar was lively, with a great selection of cocktails. At dinner they present a ham bar with a wide variety of hams from selected farms across the US. The fried chicken was truly perfect - moist and hot on the inside with an ample, flavorful crispy crust. Don't forget to order the 12 layer red velvet cake for dessert. You will be happy you did. We highly recommend!"

"Go for the food - stay for the bourbon! I have absolutely no complaints about Southern Art. For my birthday, a group of eight people dined and this was hands down the best birthday dinner ever. The host staff was SO easy to work with over the phone and that same wonderful service followed all the way through the end of dinner! They had no qualms with splitting checks for everyone, and they brought me an amazing piece of cake because they knew it was a birthday reservation! The servers were on point, as well. Very attentive, so nice and warm! It's a really, really nice change from restaurants that are hard to work with and just want to move you though. I really felt at home at Southern Art and will be back as often as possible!"
